"Obey..."
Ueno Tsutomu's eyes became hollow. He had just rolled up his sleeves, ready to follow Yagami Raito's command to punch the wall, but his body froze. Then, with a gasp, he let out a painful wail, falling stiffly to the ground, twitching for a moment before becoming still.
The entire process was so fluid and fast that Yagami Raito was a bit slow to react.
"What's going on?"
Yagami Raito frowned, having witnessed everything.
'Is there another Death Note holder?' He immediately considered this possibility, then dismissed it.
There were only himself and the two guards in the lobby. If there was an invisible third party carrying out a curse remotely, Sawada Kyoichi wouldn't still be standing there unharmed.
Therefore, rather than another Death Note holder, the more likely reason for the current situation was...
"If something is impossible to do, will it forcibly result in death by heart attack?"
"I see."
Yagami Raito didn't fully understand the rules of the Death Note. Having temporarily gained full authority, he was like a stumbling child, attempting to touch, understand, and operate the rules of the notebook.
[Rule: Any method of death is valid as long as it is within the victim's capabilities; otherwise, it will forcibly result in death by heart attack.]
Yagami Raito silently noted this rule.
For example, making a target unconditionally obey his commands and stay by his side was something that could be achieved.
'But what about people with willpower far exceeding the average person?' Yagami Raito became uncertain again. After all, for true warriors, their beliefs outweigh everything. Making such people unconditionally obey commands would probably ultimately result in forced heart failure.
However, Yagami Raito wouldn't encounter such people, nor would he likely use the notebook on individuals with such unwavering convictions.
"It seems the notebook isn't omnipotent either," Yagami Raito murmured to himself, looking at the opened elevator doors not far away, from which a group of rough-looking men emerged, scratching their heads.
There were seven of them in total, all with red names.
Unfortunately, Endo Makoto wasn't among them.
It was hard to imagine the torment Tsuruta Kusuko had endured here.
"Seriously..." Yagami Raito cracked his knuckles. "I've seen these things so many times, and I know tragedies can't always be prevented, but seeing people like you still living so well, I still can't quite restrain myself..."
"Hey, what's going on?! Why is Ueno on the floor?" Leading them was a tattooed man holding a baseball bat over his shoulder. Loan shark companies were also transforming, trying to legitimize themselves, but enforcers like him were still indispensable.
The baseball bat man was one of them.
"You there, who are you?"
"Sawada, you scoundrel, what are you just standing there for? Go greet our guest!"
The baseball bat man didn't speak, but his subordinate, who was following him, started clamoring. After speaking, he cast a subtle, hopeful glance at the baseball bat man, hoping for praise. Such characters usually act as the boss's mouthpiece to seek appreciation. After all, a big boss needs to have a big boss's presence! In ancient times, they would be the eunuch who relayed messages for the emperor.
His desire for verbal praise was well-intended, but what greeted him was a metal baseball bat whistling through the air, heading straight for his forehead.
Bang!
The dull thud of a skull colliding with a metal baseball bat, followed by a heavy impact against the concrete wall, echoed through the first-floor lobby.
The subordinates behind him stared blankly at the baseball bat man. One, mustering courage, stammered, "B-Big Brother, did you hit the wrong person?"
The response was another powerful baseball bat strike, but the man, having anticipated it, dodged in time.
"Damn it, are you crazy?!" The sudden attack from an ally infuriated him. Inherently cowardly, an unidentifiable rage surged within him. He roared as if possessed, "This guy's crazy! Let's get him together and hand him over to the boss for a family lesson!"
Boom—
The group, as if bewitched, lunged at the baseball bat man.
The hall erupted into chaos. On one side was the tattooed man with the bat; on the other, bare-handed subordinates inexplicably consumed by rage. The two sides clashed.
Blood splattered, and wails filled the air.
Yagami Raito was like a conductor leading an orchestra, his pen making broad, sweeping motions on the blank notebook page, writing the extreme punishments for the criminals.
[Urano Yoichi, ten fingers broken, five limbs crushed...]
[Yasuda Kazuhiro, ten fingers broken...]
[Yamashita Atsushi, ten fingers...]
[...]
While orchestrating, he politely stepped aside, allowing them to engage in direct combat in the spacious lobby. He then sat in the seat they usually reserved for their fat sheep, crossed his legs, and took a sip of hot tea offered by Sawada Kyoichi.
Whoosh—
Crunch—
Blood and shattered flesh seemed to intertwine, splattering stickily onto the glass of the main door.
A bizarre scene unfolded.
Moments ago, they were fighting fiercely, but now they all simultaneously stopped. Even those severely injured shakily climbed to their feet. With their own blood, they began drawing one "M" symbol after another on the floor.
The baseball bat man, meanwhile, swung his bat, dipped it in the blood and flesh piled on the ground, and painted a huge "M" on the white wall. After completing this, they each let out a muffled groan and fell stiffly to the ground, one after another, like dominoes.
Yagami Raito nodded, satisfied. "This is still too lenient for them, but since they're not the ringleaders, let them die quickly."
"The troublesome people have been dealt with. Next, it's time for the main culprit."
"Sawada, lead the way."
Sawada Kyoichi's body trembled violently. Even under Yagami Raito's control, he retained his basic understanding of life and death. He still understood the pain of ten fingers connected to the heart. Could such a death—ten fingers broken, five limbs shattered—truly be considered quick?
But he couldn't say anything, couldn't do anything.
He could only walk like a zombie in front of Yagami Raito, leading him towards the third floor.
That was Endo Yo's office.
Meanwhile, on the third floor, Endo Yo was completely unaware that death was steadily approaching.
He was casually propping his legs on the large wooden desk, fiddling with prayer beads. This was something he had recently learned from the big shots: a string of prayer beads selling for a million yen, said to atone for sins.
He had spent most of the money extorted from Tsuruta Kusuko.
Endo Yo smacked his lips. That big shot also had a twisted sense of humor and disliked using condoms, causing Tsuruta Kusuko, who was such an obedient woman, to have to commit suicide after only a few uses.
What a waste.
