Synopsis
Prince Kion never expected death when it came knocking at his door. It didn’t help that he’d already been banished from his kingdom, rejected and branded as a soulless beacon, a powerless reject in a world defined by power. But even when he’d found his footing as a mercenary gang leader, when it seemed all his hopes of leading something close to a life was well in order… He was killed disgracefully, hunted down by the very soldier who’d sworn her life to protect him. But what happens when he becomes the chosen hero of a vengeful goddess? What happens when he gets another chance at life. A do-over to wrong his rights and ensure that those who made his past life a living hell would pay for their sins? And what would happen when he unlocks a dormant ability that doesn’t just grant him access to one soul, but all others, making him a vessel of power? From being soulless to something much more, he would rise through the ranks, he would burn down the world, he would protect those he’d lost. Kion Everglade would become the Soulless Swordsman.

Chapter 1 - Prologue

[Somewhere in the Mortal Realm…]

BOOM!

A lightning bolt tore through the heavens, splitting the ground in two.

An earth shattering roar could be heard as jagged fissures tore through the soil in unseemly fashion.

It was an attack that shook not just the ground, but the entire planet itself.

And it's bearer was someone whose wrath was unwanted by anyone.

WHERE IS SHE!

A godly voice boomed as an entire forest was instantly engulfed in flames, and a regally dressed man appeared amidst the chaos, hovering and watching the destruction he had just wreaked.

Solion, the embodiment of the sun, shone like—well—the sun itself. He was so bright that any mortal who looked upon him would've been reduced to ash.

But Solion didn't care about any mortal. He didn't even care about the Earth he'd just destroyed or that his presence here meant that there was no sun in the sky, only darkness.

He only cared about one thing: his wife. The moon and soul goddess Thea.

The cheater.

WHERE IS THEA?!

He raged once more, letting out a supernova that engulfed the sacred land of the forest, leaving only dead trees and burnt shrubbery in its wake.

This world-shattering display from Solion had already broken a lot of rules. Gods above weren't meant to be in the mortal realm, but on this occassion, even as he was the king of the gods and enforcer of the rule, Solion didn't care.

Not because of the fact that he loved his wife, or was angry at her cheating. No.

He feared the prophecy.

He had never bedded Thea because of this, after hearing a bone-rattling prophecy of her seed bearing more power than all heavens combined.

That threatened his rule, and he couldn't allow it.

To ensure that he'd always keep track of his wife, he tethered their divine daltians, ensuring that they never were too far from each other. The tether kept them in orbit of each other, establishing their closeness as they moved in crcles round the universe.

It limited their movements yes, but it also ensured that Solion always knew where she was, as whenever he was up in the sky, she had to be down below the earth, and vice versa.

It was the sacred dance of the sun and moon. To others, a marvel of nature. To Solion, a prison for his wife.

They had once shared the skies freely, but Solion could no longer risk it.

Not anymore at least.

But now, somehow, Thea had managed to break their orbit, which shouldn't have been possible. She crashed down on Earth from the divine realm, evading the eyes of Solion, who didn't have proper sight at nighttime.

She'd also bedded the time god, Choran, bearing a seed. The one thing that Solion had banished. The one thing that he was scared of.

And now they were somewhere in this forsaken forest from his sources.

He kept ravaging the trees, heating the air, scorching the land. The sun god knew he would sooner burn the world than allow for Thea to have a child.

Meanwhile…

[In a cave beneath the Sacred Forest]

Thea's eyes watered as she looked down upon her baby, it's eyes twinkling like dazzling lights.

Choran crouched next to her, both parents enamoured by the presence of their child. They had heard and were aware of the chaos happening above, but they couldn't be less bothered about that.

Solion was always known for his child-like tantrums.

"He's beautiful, goddess."

The sky spirit who had helped Thea escape the celestial chambers and aided with her delivery stood by her side.

"But I'm afraid we have not much time. We could venture deeper—"

"But I've already bore the child." Thea protested. "He can't do anything about it now, especially regarding the prophecy which stated that I bore the child first."

The spirit very well understood her point, but being even far older than Thea, she alone understood just how mad Solion could get. She feared for Thea and the child's safety.

"Your godliness we have to go. I can help you carry the baby, but we need to ensure that you're—"

BOOM!

And just like that, the sun itself crashed underneath the earth.

The next events happened in a blur.

The sky spirit evaporated to mere ash, Solion's burning rage too powerful for a weak spirit like her to even exist near him…

The baby was wrenched free from the arms of Thea, who struggled in vain as Solion cast a wall of darkness, binding her in place.

And finally, without further ado, The sun swallowed Thea's seed.

"Noo!!" Thea screamed, watching Solion digest her baby. It's divine essence burst into specks of light that spread across the night sky, forming what humans—many years later—would come to know as "stars".

And just like that, Thea's world was over, alone and miserable.

She hadn't even noticed when Charon slipped away.

Solion turned to her, chuckling at her plight.

"He left you didn't he. The coward." He mused.

"You decided to have your baby here, right above the Underrealm. It will be your prison."

The wall of darkness swirled, quickly forming a dome that served as a confinement.

"Your essence, the moon, would still be seen in the heavens, but barely ever in its full form. It will be tainted by the very darkness which confines you—as will the mortals who carry your souls." Solion declared.

"You will rot here for all I care. Good bye, Thea."

Solion turned to leave, hovering through the hole which he had formed when he bore through the earth.

Meanwhile, Thea could still sense the essence of her child somewhere. In a last ditch effort of godly magic, she focused her child's power on the souls of a random human bloodline, ensuring that it lived through the mortals.

The moon would never be complete again, only taking its full form every 27 days. During that time, Thea would scout for mortals who bore the essence, the ones who would be a beacon for her wrath in thousands of years to come.

And the prophecy. There would be no stopping it.

For finally, one day, a soulless mortal bearing the bloodline would be born, and one day, they would die.

And if everything aligned just right for Thea, at the time which her full moon manifested, she would scout for his soul, drawing it to her prison.

And finally, she would grant him reincarnation.

There would be multiple times during the course of history that she would come close to achieving her goal. Times when everything would align perfectly, potential souls completing the cycle of death and rebirth.

But never a time when she would succeed.

That was until a red-haired soulless prince was born—and was killed—under the heavens.
