Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: The Cow That Ate Meat (and Fought Like a Tank)

I was following a strange, delicious smell with my pack.

It wasn't rabbit. Not deer either. Something… new.

After some time, we reached a clearing.

And there, in the center of it all, stood a cow.

Yup.

A cow.

Just a regular, boring-looking creature—big, slow, eats grass, right?

That's what I thought…

Until I saw what it was doing.

The cow was eating meat.

Not just any meat—this thing was chewing through the body of a huge, rat-like creature almost the size of a wolf!

My brain froze.

Cows don't eat meat, I thought. They eat grass… don't they?

Apparently not this one.

We watched from the bushes as the cow tore through the last chunks of flesh, clearly finishing up its bloody feast.

This was our moment.

It was distracted.

And probably tired.

Perfect time to strike.

I gave a low growl, and the pack slipped into formation.

Eyes focused. Muscles tensed. The hunt was on.

And then—

I launched myself straight at the cow.

But instead of tearing into soft flesh…

WHAM!

Its head crashed into my chest like a boulder, and I went flying across the clearing, landing hard on the snow.

I staggered up, stunned.

What the hell was that?!

The cow didn't stop.

It went berserk, headbutting my pack one by one, sending us all sprawling.

We couldn't even land a scratch.

It was tossing wolves around like toys.

We were in trouble.

Big trouble.

Then one of my brothers managed to sneak in behind it.

He leapt, teeth sinking into the cow's backside.

But instead of panicking, the cow did something insane—

It grabbed him and suplexed him into the ground!

I froze in horror.

My brother… he might die.

Panic surged through me.

Anger. Desperation. Fear.

And I snapped.

With everything I had, I lunged forward one last time.

But as I did—

a blue aura exploded around me.

It swirled like mist, powerful and glowing.

Before I could even bite down—

A ghostly blue wolf, the same size as me, appeared out of nowhere and sank its fangs into the cow's neck.

One strike. Instant death.

The cow collapsed with a thud.

Silence.

I looked around.

Every wolf stared at me.

I looked down at myself… and froze.

My body was normal—but my eyes…

They were red.

Glowing.

I didn't even know it was happening.

I didn't know how. Or why.

The blue aura was gone, but the look in my pack's eyes told me they'd seen something big.

Something powerful.

They were staring at me… differently now.

Like I was no longer just one of them.

I didn't know what to say.

So I said nothing.

"Magic stuff can wait," I told myself.

Right now, it's meal time.

We all dug into the cow. It was tough and strange… but meat is meat.

After we were full, we searched deeper into the forest for a new home.

And eventually—we found it.

A wide cave surrounded by trees and valleys.

Plenty of prey nearby. Rabbits. Deer. Even some big animals.

It was perfect.

We explored the area and began marking it—pissing on everything, basically.

Classic wolf stuff.

By the time we were done, we'd claimed a full 5-kilometer radius around the cave.

Our new territory.

With that done, we split up.

Four wolves would stay and guard our new home.

One would come back with me to the original cave, so we could bring the others here.
