The Oracle had no name. It had given it away to avoid destiny.
Lyra approached the edge of the Dissonance Rift where the Oracle sat upside-down on a hovering monolith, speaking only of things that never occurred.
"You seek the truth of Damien Virelli," it said without looking. "But you won't like the version you forgot."
Lyra stepped forward. "He's alive."
The Oracle laughed a hollow, futureless sound.
"No. He's remembered. That's worse."
She felt her chest tighten. The Epoch Shard pulsed.
"Tell me what to do."
"You can't stop what already never happened," the Oracle said. "But you can warn the one who's about to be erased."
"Who?"
"You."
