Chapter 2 - No Streak

Logan's shut eyes fluttered open, their hazel color focusing on the world above him, visible to his eyes were the trees of the forest he occupied,

Observing the sparse golden beams of light that passed through the tree canopy, "Must be sunrise. The next day" he surmised to himself before getting up only to find himself in a crater,

Images of the previous day's events flashed through his head, "The crystal" Logan gasped, his eyes darting around to find it but to no avail.

He released a breath before heading back to the river, he approached it with the intention of having a quick bath,

As soon as he stood over the water, he subconsciously stared at his reflection and as usual could see his white skin, hazel brown eyes and white hair.

'Wait, WHITE HAIR??!!' Logan screamed in his mind, "When did this happen? How did I suddenly contract the Mirror plague?" Panic filled every inch of Logan,

He placed his hands together, forming signs as he spoke in an unknown tongue, wisps of darkness gathered around him giving birth to eight arrows made of darkness, "Death Arrows" Logan casted the first spell he had ever gotten and with a thought, the arrows flew about a 100 meters before dissipating into dangerous, corrosive wisps,

Logan inwardly heaved a sigh of relief, he had half expected the spell to turn into one of the light element because as far as public knowledge went, changing of elemental streaks was one of the sure signs of that accursed plague.

Calming down further, Logan knew he had jumped into conclusions. After all, the elemental streak for light magic was silver but with a disease as unconventional as the Mirror plague, who knew what was what,

He cast a few more spells to ensure there was nothing wrong with his magic before he proceeded to suppress the few skeptical thoughts in his head and head into the river without bothering to take of his 'clothes'.

About 20 minutes later, Logan emerged, removed the only trace of clothing from his body and headed to one of the safer ends of the forest,

Soon appeared a small cottage that appeared to be on its last legs, it seemed that it would be safer for one to live in the forest than in the structure,

Heading into the cottage, Logan took calm and measured steps. According to his calculations, the Dawn Kingdom Royal Academy for Magic would be seeing its third batch for their assessment.

Inside the cottage was far better than its outside, inside its maroon walls and tiled floors was nothing but a golden-brown leather trunk. Opening the trunk, Logan pulled out a scroll, a fresh pitch black tracksuit and a mirror,

He closed the trunk before he focused on the items he brought out, he had to sell the other spells over the 3 years he had been in the forest.

He sold them for clothes, medicine and a self training manuscript on how to hunt, all essentials he had needed to survive for so long since noone cared about him as he had figured out on his first year of living in the forest,

But no matter how many times he had needed money, he had never sold one particular spell. Undoing the binding, he pulled the scroll and read the name;

Death Arrow

The first spell his mother gave him, he was unwilling to part with it but he needed the money to pay the registration fee for the assessment.

Putting the matter in the back of his mind, he quickly put on the tracksuit and looked at himself in the mirror, his now white hair looked completely natural and not at the same time. It almost seemed like something that wasn't supposed to exist,

"I hope I'm right about this not being the mirror plague, otherwise the registration would end pretty badly for me" he sighed before dropping the mirror and leaving the cottage in the direction of the closest town, his previous town.

On an entirely different continent, neighboring the Dawn Kingdom where Logan lived, was a giant orange pagoda that seemed to pierce the very sky and on the highest level sat a man in his early forties,

He had bright caramel skin, green eyes, a neat shaven head and a thick beard of his brown hair that sported orange and yellow streaks,

He had on a bright green kimono as he sat in a meditative pose, "It's about time I check on them" his calm voice reverberated through the entire pagoda causing all birds in the vicinity to fly off in fear of what was to come.

His figure blurred for an instant before he vanished with a loud bang, massive torrents of wind caused by his movement destroyed the first floor of the pagoda,

The scenery in the man's view changed rapidly until it settled with his focus on a reinforced metallic structure in the middle of nowhere, he hovered a couple hundred meters in the air, his gaze piercing and fierce,

Space ripped around him as a portal formed and stabilized and he immediately entered, "We greet the Great Emperor Kai !!" a group of voices said at the same time as soon as he emerged from the other side, the source a mere group of seven people with flowing white lab coats and a myriad of different streaks,

"What is the progress with the task I entrusted you with?" Emperor Kai asked, his tone almost uncaring, "Well um, you see umm... well-" one of the people present stuttered, fear gripping his throat, "Get on with it" Emperor Kai urged, his tone still indifferent,

"Well, the situation is quite strange because well, uh-", "The crystal is no longer in our possession" the youngest person there interrupted.

Everyone present glared at the young man before turning to the Emperor, their eyes full of fear, "And how exactly did this happen?" Emperor Kai asked, his tone full of an eerie interest, "The last test subject had an affinity for fire and as we were draining him, he managed to cast an A rank spell on the crystal while being only C rank himself.

His spell shrouded the crystal in a mass of flames and sent it flying to another continent" the same young man replied almost immediately, "Where exactly did it land?" The Emperor asked again, his eyes almost glowing with an odd light,

"The Dawn Kingdom" the young man said to the now smiling Emperor, "It just had to be the Dawn Kingdom, no matter" Emperor Kai sighed before his figure blurred as he flew out of the structure planning to go through the roof,

As he approached the ceiling, he waved his hand, "Winds of The Empire" he muttered, conjuring a large gale that destroyed the roof in an instant.

Behind him being pulled by a strong wind was the young man that was open to the Emperor, the young man full of fear as his eyes were shut,

"Open your eyes" Emperor Kai called out to the young man, "What's your name?" The usually stoic Emperor asked, "E-Elix, sir" Elix stuttered much to the Emperor's amusement,

"Well Elix, I think that I have been too lenient to any form of incompetence in this great empire and that has caused its residents to do as they wish, and so how about we begin to fix it, starting here. Judgement of The Lightning god" Emperor Kai muttered to seemingly noone.

At least until a lightning bolt the size of a tree trunk descended from the sky and crashed unto the Emperor,

His figure appeared untouched as the lightning bolt dispersed, he casually lifted a finger and pointed it to the structure that laid dozens of meters beneath him,

A small spark left his finger and landed on the structure, the very fabric of space creaked as the ground trembled releasing shockwaves that flattened mountains in the distance,

And with a massive boom, the structure and the surrounding areas within a four kilometer radius turned into magma, "Tch. Who knew the defense of that structure could weaken my spell to this extent" Emperor Kai clicked his tongue, he had unleashed an SSS rank spell without uttering a word and the only surviving witness was Elix.

Logan was in a large town with buildings carved from wood, marble, stone and cement,

On the numerous pathways were carriages of all sorts being pulled by massive beasts of various ranks, the carriages varied in quality as did the beast and rider,

"Hey, what are you doing here? I thought that you'd learn your lesson after what happened the last time" a voice called out to Logan,

He turned seeing a group of three boys with malicious intent on their faces and spells at hand, they moved in to attack.
