THE DEVIL'S BRIDE
Episode 41: Fire, Flesh, and Memory
By Rapwizzy Debaron
The battlefield lit up like dawn set on fire.
Kael's sword met the Ghost General's axe in a thunderous clash. Sparks flew as their weapons howled, and the ground beneath them cracked.
Lucien charged through the smoke, slicing down shadow soldiers with lethal precision. Behind him, Evelyn held her ground, eyes glowing silver, the mark on her chest flaring like a star.
Her fingers trembled—not with fear—but memory.
---
Images flooded her mind.
A crown of silver thorns.
A battlefield of ash.
Kael, bleeding and broken.
And herself—screaming his name while her wings—yes, wings—burned in divine fire.
She wasn't just the Devil's bride.
She was once his savior.
But they lost.
And she died…
With a prophecy carved on her bones.
---
Back in the present, the Ghost General's axe nearly cleaved Kael in two—but Evelyn raised her hand, and a shield of energy burst between them, throwing the beast back.
The General snarled. "She remembers."
Evelyn stepped forward. "I do."
Kael stared at her in awe. "What are you?"
Evelyn blinked, chest rising and falling. "I think… I was a guardian once. Yours."
The General laughed. "She was more than that. She was your ruin."
Kael lunged, rage in his veins.
---
Seraphina watched it all unfold through a mirror of bone and blood.
Her smile was cold. "So the little bride awakens."
She turned to the chained figure behind her—a boy with dark wings and shattered eyes.
"She remembers. Soon, so will you."
The boy's eyes flickered. "Evelyn…"
Seraphina caressed his face. "Don't worry. You'll meet her again. When she kills you."
---
The battlefield cracked open.
From beneath, black vines and screaming spirits rose—pulling the Ghost General and his army back into the veil.
Kael dropped to one knee, bloodied.
Lucien panted. "What just happened?"
Evelyn whispered, "That was just a warning."
---
Far beyond the veil, a forgotten god stirred in a cage of chains and fire.
It opened one golden eye.
And whispered, "She lives…"
---
To be continued…
