Cherreads

Chapter 8 - A simple axeman's world.

After he left his daughter to her self he went on his little store ready to face the day.

Or as ready as the turn of events allowed.

What are we going to do there is a difference between not weilding magic at all and know little magic even you can cast basic earth spells allowing us to field much more effectively.

His wife who always came together to his job said:

Relax everything will go as Millos wills it, she is to small for us to worry about that anyways. And even if she doesn't develop any kind of magic we will always love her the way she is right?

The father sighted defeated. I guess you are right.

Then on the middle of the steet across his store a black gate rippled to existence. From it came out a shadowy stickman figure with hands of scissors that connected to its body through a straight line.

The creature as soon as it appeared taken in to the world trough its strange sight. Not quite blind but not fully able to see. Across the hut of the worried father was a humble shop selling different kinds of equipment from basic swords to field equipment. Managing it was a old man in his 60s still even though he was to old to fight his star was shining brightly.

The monster approached the shop with slow steps all passengers who saw it run in fear screaming. The old man ignoring the clear distress outside came out casually to see what happened.

Did you mess with the towns folk again kid I ...

Shing!!

He would never get to finish his sentence for he was dead.

The monster casually ate him and looked left and right seeing nothing. Unlike it's brethren it started at 35 cm and never grew, instead it just got harder to kill. A certified warrior for sure.

Not knowing how to proceed it looked around and found a very small looking star just across the street. Feeling it's next meal it slowly and steadily approached the little hut.

The couple was scared shitless, a monster appeared on their town that never happened before. But the father's and husband's instincts kicked in pushing the fear away. The person behind him was his beloved wife and he wouldn't let her get hurt without a fight.

So he charged in not waiting for the monster to approach him handaxe in hand, said handaxe served him years day in day out cutting wood and planks. Now it would cut shadowy flesh he would make sure of it.

The monster tried to retaliate shooting its scissor forward but it was to slow and clumsy. The father surprised at how clumsy it was dogged to early expecting a much faster response. The shopkeeper across may grew old but he was a certified adventurer killing countless monsters.

The reason the creature killed him was that it's slashes maked no sound that and together with its slow walk was prefect for a stealthy kill. A skill unsuitable for a warrior.

Still now that it's opponent knew where it was a silent slash wasn't going to do anything. The father stepped in and tripped the creature pinning it down. Then raising his axe up he chopped the creature's head again and again and again. Not stopping until it saw it dead, the creature tried to raise it arm to resist put the pain was to much the strikes to strong.

Unlike most villager he wasn't soft the daily exercise that was required of his job the constant need to repair his home and most importantly the need to protect his family gave his strikes strength that the creature couldn't resist. After 20 such strikes it dissolved into nothing. But the man wasn't done in his rage and hopelessness keept going sticking the ground.

Until a soft delicate hand softly touched his shoulder. And a soft angelic voice that had the power to always calm him said. That's enough dear you killed it, its gone now.

The man stopped visibly relaxing. Sorry you had to see that i guess i got lost in my rage.

In the highs and lows on sickness and health i will always love you now get up you have one more person to protect.

The man got up seemengly confused. Then realising his stupidity screamed at the realization. MY DAUGHTER WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAUGHTER HOW COULD I FORGET I NEED TO FIND HER FAST WHERE IS SHE?

She is our daughter and she should be at school.

Ok then let's go, the man grabbed his wife's hand dragging her together for the briefest of second he thought leaving here thinking of the possible dangers ahead but he quickly discarded the idea noone guarantee him that another monster wouldn't appear and doing thejourney 2 times was beyond stupid anyways. I will protect her even if it kill me that should be enough right?

On their way to the school they meet a crab looking monster around 25 cm tall. Just because this type of creature's strength was measured by height didn't mean they could get to infinite heights. For most of them there was a specific number that after reaching it they couldn't surpass it no matter how hard they tried. For this one the limit was 25 cm. Because of that any kill it took maked its armor harder and since it was a shadowy creature there wasn't a need for seems on the armour for it to move making it might impermeable. A solid tank choice although because of its construction and patterns of attack collaborating with it especially in closed up spaces was pretty much impossible.

Still just looking at it the father could tell he couldn't pierce the armour even if he striked it with all his force.

Of course it wouldn't be so easy, then he dragged his wife to the right building the front door was broken so they went inside.

Where are you going the school is straight ahead.

Are you blind didn't you see the giant grab monster how the hell im supposed to lead us that way.

Can't we just dogge the 2 claws and run? it seemed pretty slow.

Seemengly slow and being slow are 2 different kinds of things im not gambling our life on that chance, we don't know how strong it is.

The wife tried to talk back when in hallway of the house a 40 years old man was struggling with a chair to push back a radish shadowy monster while protecting a woman on the ground who was grabbing her knee in pain.

The father barely registered the image and his body moved before his mind and with a sweep of the axe hitted the head of the radish square on the middle cutting in it by half. The monster immediately disappeared not even realising what happened.

Thank you kind stranger you saved your lifes if both of us survive this the i promise to help you in anyway i can. The man said that while panting.

Still the father was to buzy to pay attention to his words nodding in thanks he immediately runned to the back door of the building. His wife was behind him trying to keep up. Both of had only one goal go to the school.
