Chapter 86 - Not Xavier

I sat there, bored out of my mind, waiting for those two men to finish their round in that damn wardrobe. Sipping on my drink, I let my thoughts spiral into the same tangled mess they always fell into lately.

A loud thud came from inside the wardrobe, like someone had stumbled—or perhaps… grappled?

Those idiots… were they seriously fighting in there?

"Hey! No touching, remember the rules?" I called out, raising my voice just enough for them to hear.

Silence followed, though faint thuds still echoed, so soft it almost felt like a trick of the mind.

"Relax, just swatting a mosquito." Cassian's voice drifted out, far too calm to be real.

I held my breath, straining to catch any hint of unusual movement, while my hand, out of habit, reached under my skirt, fingers grazing the hilt of the dagger hidden beneath.

"Be careful." I said, half to him, half to whatever was creeping in the dark. "Mosquitoes can be deadly too."
