Chapter 2 - Chapter 2 - Powers

Robert flew back and decided not to reveal his power just yet knowing how difficult it is to explain to his parents. Though he knew they were his parents still had a strong familial connection to them. It makes it more tragic what his dad was about to do.

At his current level, Robert can't stop his dad from killing the guardian of the globe. Even if he warns the G.D.A, who would believe him?

There wasn't anything suspicious that Nolan showed until Mark showed his powers in the show. He could only try and focus on getting stronger and prevent more deaths when Nolan finally snapped.

'My strength should be equal to MCU Sentry. I'm strong but not as strong as Adult Viltrumite, especially as experienced as Nolan.'

Robert thought as he flew in the sky towards his home. He needed to gain more abilities of Sentry because stopping Nolan is one thing but trying to stop civilian casualties is another thing altogether.

He sighed feeling the deep emotional pain of knowing the guardian's death was imminent. He loved his foster dad and now understood what Mark felt in the show. The betrayal. The confusion. The pain.

Robert can't exactly blame his dad knowing what kind of upbringing he had. Human common sense is foreign to Viltrumite. Nolan is simply in conflict with his task and loves his family.

"I'll try to stop you… or save you. Maybe both. I just hope I'm strong enough when the time comes."

Robert swore as he finally arrived home and sat down for dinner. Robert practically collapsed into his chair at the dinner table, letting out a soft groan.

"Finally home," he muttered, just as Marie practically bounced into the dining room, her eyes sparkling with uncontained excitement.

"Guess who got their powers!" Marie practically sang, beaming.

Nolan, who had been about to take a bite, froze, his fork hovering mid-air. A flicker of profound shock, then a complex struggle, crossed his face. Robert knew this was causing massive inner conflict for the Viltrumite.

"Are you sure?" Nolan asked, his voice strained, though the question was brief, the weight behind it was immense.

"Yeah, pretty sure," Marie chirped, completely oblivious to her father's turmoil. "I threw a trash bag into space."

Debbie, ever the pragmatist and mediator, delivered a swift, discreet kick to Nolan under the table. He flinched, snapping back to attention.

"Ah, that's great! If you're up for it, I could make time for training," Nolan managed, forcing a strained enthusiasm into his voice.

"Man, I feel sorry for any guy who's going to date you," Robert quipped, a mischievous grin playing on his lips.

Marie frowned, narrowing her eyes at him.

"What does that mean?"

Robert shrugged nonchalantly.

"I mean, you're basically invincible now. One hit and the guy is done. Then again, Dad might scare them away anyway."

Marie's fist clenched under the table, a clear sign she was tempted to punch him for teasing, but she visibly reined herself in, knowing her newfound strength might actually hurt him.

"Stop teasing her, Rob," Debbie interjected, though a small smile played on her lips.

"I'm happy for you, Marie."

Eventually things went like the episode and Robert went to his room trying to list of things he could do.

'I should start a company. Money and all that but also helps people. Fortunately, I am also gaining memories of Sentry and should be able to recreate Arc Reactor.'

Robert doesn't plan on going to college because he won't even age and time is a suggestion to him. He decided to start up a company instead with the help of Cecil.

'Tony did recreate the Arc reactor in a cave with a pile of scrap.'

He began to create a schematic on how to utilize it. Robert wrote everything and items that he would need to create the mini arc reactor.

'If only I had matter manipulation…'

Robert still hadn't unlocked the full extent of Sentry's power and simply had his Telekinesis, Superhuman body and flight. He suddenly sensed something and knew it was Marie taking flight.

'She's careless….I know she won't get hurt but.' He went out to his window and with a mini sonic boom flew into the sky at high speed. Robert locked his sight on Marie who flew higher and higher.

Robert's perceptions slowed down as he scanned for Marie and it didn't take long for him to locate Marie who was falling from the sky as she forgot that outer space doesn't have oxygen. She passed out but before she descended and hurt herself was caught by Robert.

He had her in bridal carry as she started to regain consciousness.

"Rob…wait! Rob!?" Marie dumbstruck seeing her adopted brother carrying her in the sky.

"How are you able to fly!? Better yet how come you have powers!!" She had a large number of questions and Robert nodded with a smile.

"I'll explain once we descend. Next time, try to be careful being a Viltrumite might make you invincible but that doesn't mean you're invulnerable."

Robert said flying high speed in the sky as Marie blushed in embarrassment but started to enjoy the warmth of being in his arms.

"Uhmm…you can let me go now. I think I can fly on my own." Marie said and Robert slowly her go as she began to float on her own.

"Careful. Don't overthink, just feel for it. I'm sure dad will compare you to a baby when it comes to flight." Robert explained he tries to begin to guide Marie to fly.

"How do you know this? Did you have…powers for a long time?" Marie asked and Robert shook his head.

"No, the thing is…my powers come from being named Sentry and it decided to fuse with me. At this time, I'm only a fraction of its power apparently."

Robert knew that there were far too many superhero origins and he wasn't that strange. Marie was amazed by this.

"Just like that? You Didn't take any test?" Marie asked.

"Nope." Robert said.

"Wow. Then we can be a team then?" Marie excitedly said and Robert chuckled.

"Hahaha you're getting ahead of yourself. Let's talk more about this Tomorrow. You still have training with dad." Robert said.

"That's right, are you planning on joining?" Marie asked.

"....I don't know…I wanted to hide my powers until much later but seeing you doing something…stupid." Robert said as Marie pout being called stupid.

"I think it's fine! I'm sure dad will be happy to see you with powers." Marie said while Robert hesitated since Nolan could kill him if he sees him as a future threat. However, Robert also knows that Nolan loved them and was simply in inner conflict with himself.

"...Alright."

The next day, Nolan went to wake Marie to start her training but Marie told everyone that Robert had something to tell them. Robert saw how eager Marie was while Nolan and Debbie were confused.

"Uhhmmm….well." Robert then began to demonstrate his powers by floating in the air shocking both Nolan and Debbie.

"What!? You have powers!? When? How!?" Debbie was baffled while Nolan was speechless.

Nolan once again faces a dilemma on how he should handle Robert. He inwardly decides that Robert could be a potential soldier for their Viltrumite army.

Robert used the same explanation as he did with Marie and despite many questions running through their head decided to help him train his powers.

"I guess I'm the only one who isn't superpowered and all that. All of you are extraordinary while I am just a regular human."

Debbie jokingly said and Robert wanted to tell her that he could easily share his power like how Marvel Sentry shared his power with the Scout.

"Come on mom. You're pretty awesome for taking care of all three of us." Robert comforted Debbie who giggled.

"I am just teasing. Well you should head out and train your powers or you might be late for school."

Once they are in the sky, his father tells Marie he would get the hang of flying, having to focus at first. His father tells him that flying could tire him, and to use momentum in order to relax from time to time. He told his daughter to relax and realized Marie had practiced the night before.

"You seem like a natural Robert. Did that Sentry entity give you some sort of muscle memory?" Nolan said seeing how easily he controls his flight while Marie still struggles.

"Yeah, though I'm still learning." Robert said.

"That's just unfair. I feel like an idiot flying." Marie said as she can't precisely place her momentum and center of gravity.

"You are overthinking. It's only been less than a day since you got your power and you are simply rushing. Don't compare yourself to me or dad. Just go at your own pace and don't force it."

Robert explained helping Marie get a hang of it and she took his words to heart trying to relax a bit more. Marie was still afraid of falling and in a constant battle with her gravity and the world.

Marie started to get a feel and familiarizing her gravity. Nolan noticed the change and was amazed by her improvement.

"Wooaaah!! This started to get easy!! Look at me, Rob!" Marie flew in a sonic boom as she started to fly like it's nothing. Nolan smiled watching his daughter.

"It seems your advice works, Son." Nolan thanked him.

"It's nothing, it's all Marie and I simply gave her a push. But we should catch up and finish up."

The two figures streaked across the sky, a blur of motion against the setting sun, before descending gracefully. Marie, surprisingly adept for a beginner, landed with far more control than the clumsy, crater-inducing landings Robert remembered from the show's original Mark.

"Okay, that's good," Nolan's deep voice rumbled, his expression serious.

"I think it's time for me to teach you how to punch. Marie, hit me."

Marie, still flushed with the thrill of flight, coiled her fist and lunged, a flurry of rapid blows aimed at Nolan. He moved with impossible grace, dodging every strike with casual ease, his feet barely shifting. Robert watched, a pit forming in his stomach.

He knew what was coming and his first instinct was to interfere, to warn her, but he held back. If she truly intended to become a hero, this harsh lesson was necessary. It was better Nolan showed her the grim reality now than for a villain to do it later.

Suddenly, Nolan's counter-attack was swift and brutal. His fist connected with Marie's stomach with a sickening thud, a sound that seemed to echo in the quiet field. Marie gasped, her eyes wide with shock and pain, before she doubled over and crumpled to the ground, writhing in agony.

"Marie!" Robert was at her side in an instant, dropping to his knees. Nolan's face, moments ago unreadable, softened with a profound regret.

"Why... you hurt me, Dad," Marie choked out, her voice barely a whisper, tears welling in her eyes. The disbelief was palpable.

Robert gently gathered her into his arms, supporting her head.

"Shhh... focus on breathing," he murmured, rubbing her back.

"Dad didn't want to hurt you, but Marie, I'm sure Dad has a good reason why he did that."

Nolan knelt beside them, his powerful frame seeming almost small in his remorse.

"I... I know it hurts, dear. But like Rob said, my reason being that if you want to do what I do, if you want to be a hero, you have to be prepared. They won't hold their punches, and they will hurt you far more than I just did." His gaze was earnest, pleading for her understanding.

Back home, Marie, still fuming, stormed straight to her room the moment they stepped inside. Robert watched her go, then turned to Debbie and Nolan.

"I'll take care of Marie," he assured them, his voice firm.

He found Marie sprawled on her bed, her face buried in her pillow, the picture of gloomy resentment.

"Marie," he said softly, sitting beside her. She didn't respond, merely burrowed deeper into the covers. Robert sighed, a familiar weariness settling over him.

"Come on, Marie. No need to sulk," he coaxed, gently rubbing her shoulder.

"Dad knows what's best for you. And if he doesn't show you the reality of his other life, then that reality will show you just how bad it really is."

Marie let out a deep, shaky sigh, finally lifting her head. Her eyes were red-rimmed.

"I know... but I wasn't ready."

"No one ever truly is," Robert agreed, his voice gentle but firm.

"Marie, being a superhero isn't easy. And Dad makes it look easy because he's gone through a lot of trials and errors we don't see. He's trying to save you from some of that." He hoped his words would pierce through her hurt, that she'd understand the brutal necessity of Nolan's lesson.

"....Guess you're right. Maybe I was just too eager to prove myself and be like dad." Marie confessed looking at Robert.

"Don't be. You are Marie Grayson, my awesome yet geeky sister." Robert lightened the mood and Marie laughed.

"Hey, I know I'm awesome but geeky? Just because I like comics doesn't mean I'm a geek. Not to mention, you also like them." Marie said and he shrugged.

"Yeah, at least I'm proud of it. Anyway, we should get ready for school."
