Chapter 1 - chapter 1:The ancient parchment

The last light of the dying sun painted the sky in hues of bruised plum and fading amber as Elara emerged from the shadowed maw of the Archives. Dust, ancient and clinging, still powdered her tunic, a testament to hours spent hunched over crumbling scrolls and forgotten star charts. Her fingers, stained with ink and the faint metallic tang of old paper, clutched a single, brittle parchment. On it, a constellation, poets unlike any known, shimmered faintly, its lines drawn with an unfamiliar hand. For generations, the people of Aeridor had looked to the familiar patterns in the night sky, guiding their ships across the obsidian seas and marking the passage of seasons. But the parchment Elara held spoke of a star, a "Whisper," said to appear only once every thousand years, heralding either an age of unparalleled prosperity or an era of profound darkness. The legends were vague, contradictory, and dismissed by most as mere folklore. Yet, something in the intricate, almost living, lines of the drawing resonated deep within Elara. She made her way through the bustling market, the scent of spiced bread and exotic fruits doing little to distract her from the weight of her discovery. The city of Silverwood, usually a beacon of vibrant life, felt strangely muted tonight, as if holding its breath. Or perhaps, it was just her own apprehension. Her small apartment, overlooking the sprawling rooftops, offered a meager comfort. She spread the parchment on her worn wooden table, lighting a flickering oil lamp. The constellation, a delicate swirl of seven stars culminating in a brighter, central point, seemed to pulse under her gaze. The accompanying text, written in a script so ancient it was almost illegible, spoke of a "key" and a "song.""A key to what?" she murmured, tracing the faint symbols. "And a song for a star?"
