In Valerius Stone's chamber, I stood clutching the untouched drink, acutely aware of how vulnerable I was despite the silk robe wrapped around my body. The Alpha's penetrating gaze made my skin prickle, but I refused to show fear.
"I need clothes," I stated firmly, shifting my weight. "I can't have a serious conversation dressed like this."
Valerius raised an eyebrow, then nodded. He moved to a large wooden wardrobe and pulled out a simple black shirt and a pair of drawstring pants.
"These will be too large, but they'll serve the purpose," he said, placing them on the edge of the bed. "I'll turn around."
True to his word, he faced the windows, giving me privacy. I quickly slipped into the clothes, rolling up the sleeves and pant legs. The fabric smelled of pine and something distinctly male—his scent.
"You can turn now," I announced, feeling slightly more confident now that I was properly clothed.
