Volume Three, Chapter Ten: The Escape
The night was alive with chaos. Sirens blared in the distance, punctuated by the sharp crack of gunfire. The coalition was on the move, weaving through narrow alleyways and abandoned warehouses as the full force of the task force closed in.
Gibbs led the way, his every step calculated and precise. Behind him, Olivia and Samara covered their rear, while Penelope and Sylvester guarded the tech van loaded with critical evidence.
"We're running out of time," Penelope called out, eyes glued to her laptop. "They've deployed drones and thermal imaging. We need to lose them—fast."
Sylvester checked the map. "There's a sewer access point two blocks ahead. It's risky, but it might be our best shot."
Olivia nodded. "Lead the way."
The group slipped into the darkness, descending into the labyrinth beneath the city. The stench was overwhelming, but it was a small price to pay for survival.
Suddenly, a squad of federal agents appeared at the manhole above, shining flashlights into the murky depths.
"Move!" Gibbs barked.
They sprinted through the tunnels, water sloshing around their boots. Echoes of footsteps and shouted commands reverberated off the walls.
Penelope's breath was ragged. "I'm losing signal. They're jamming our comms."
Sylvester grabbed her arm. "Stay close."
Up ahead, a faint light marked the exit. They pushed forward, muscles burning, lungs screaming.
At the surface, chaos awaited. The streets were flooded with law enforcement, helicopters circling overhead.
Michael Westen appeared from the shadows, motioning them toward an unmarked van. "Get in. Now."
One by one, they piled inside as bullets pinged off the metal exterior.
Michael floored the accelerator, weaving through side streets and back alleys. The team held their breath as they escaped the tightening noose.
Aftermath and Resolve
Safe but shaken, the coalition regrouped at a new location. Olivia wiped grime from her face, determination burning in her eyes.
"This isn't over," she said. "Not by a long shot."
Gibbs nodded. "They want a war. We'll give them one."
Penelope looked at Sylvester, their hands brushing briefly. "We're stronger together."
Sylvester smiled, hope flickering in his eyes. "Always."
Outside, the city slept unaware that its protectors were fighting a battle that would change everything.
