Evelyn chuckled at the look on her face and wrapped her arms around her waist to hug her. Amber brushed her fingers through her hair, trying to soothe her.
She said, "If you want to be with him, there is no need to make this document. You can talk things out with him and—"
"It's of no use." Evelyn shook her head.
"Why? You haven't given it a try."
"It's useless to try. He doesn't want me anymore, and I can't beg him to be with me, Amber. That's beyond pathetic. I've dealt with enough humiliation from Valerio. I don't want to have to stand and have a man tell me no to my face for one reason or the other, more so when I know they're not interested. I'd rather not go through that."
Amber asked, "Are you sure about that? Is this really what you want?"
"Not what I want." Evelyn shrugged. "But there's nothing I can do."
Amber caressed her hair, sighing softly under her breath.
