Chapter 18 - Chapter 18: Being Kept

Especially Xiaofang. She stood there, her face pale and flushed in turns, utterly unable to believe what had happened. Li Manya was the first to recover, hastily trying to smooth things over."A misunderstanding, it's all a misunderstanding...""Xiaofang, really, you acted rashly before knowing the whole truth, causing such a huge scandal. Aren't you going to apologize to Su Wanwan immediately?"In just a few words, she completely distanced herself from the entire incident. Xiaofang's lips trembled, struggling to speak."Wanwan, Xiaofang lacks experience, it's understandable she acted impulsively.""Don't bother arguing with her."Su Wanwan glanced at Xiaofang with a faint, mocking smile, though her words were directed at Li Manya."Who's really picking a fight with whom?" Li Manya was momentarily silenced.

At first, it was obvious Su Wanwan had no desire to stir trouble; Xiaofang repeatedly provoked her, even rifling through her bag without permission, then summoned the auditing staff, determined to pin the theft accusation on Su Wanwan once and for all. Yet when the situation reversed, Su Wanwan mercilessly turned the tables, humiliating Xiaofang utterly.

Li Manya forced a smile and gripped Xiaofang's arm."Xiaofang, you truly made a mistake here. Apologize quickly."Xiaofang remained silent, unwilling to bow to Su Wanwan."Xiaofang!" Li Manya called out in frustration, her anger barely contained. If she hadn't thought this fool was trying to help her, she wouldn't be defending her now!

Su Wanwan spoke calmly, deliberately slow:"Forget it. No need to force it."Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, thinking the matter was settled. Yet unexpectedly—"Such matters are better left to the police to handle."

Xiaofang's face paled in panic; she hadn't anticipated Su Wanwan's ruthless resolve.Li Manya awkwardly interjected:"This... it's just a minor issue. Let's not involve the police; it wouldn't reflect well on our company...""So you mean today's incident will just be swept under the rug?" Su Wanwan's gaze darkened with a chill as she fixed Li Manya with a piercing stare.

Li Manya swallowed nervously, unsure how to respond, when someone else spoke up:"Su Wanwan, it's true Xiaofang acted impulsively, but didn't you lose nothing? Is this really necessary?"Su Wanwan nodded thoughtfully, her tone sharp:"Defaming my character, destroying my reputation, openly slandering me in public, even rifling through my belongings—how is that 'losing nothing'?"

Xiaofang was truly terrified now. If this escalated, how could she remain in the company?"Su Wanwan, I... I know I was wrong, I'm sorry!""Don't call the police. We're all colleagues—please, have some mercy..."Xiaofang clutched Su Wanwan's sleeve, eyes full of pleading.

Su Wanwan shrugged off her hand and strode out decisively.Everyone could see Su Wanwan's determination, and it was clear Xiaofang would soon be packing her things.Xiaofang pinned her last hope on Li Manya—after all, she had taken the lead on this for Li Manya's sake."Manager! Manager, I offended Su Wanwan entirely because of you! You won't just stand by and watch, will you?"

Li Manya heard this thinly veiled moral blackmail, shot her a disdainful glance, but replied with an unexpectedly gentle tone:"You've really caused a big mess this time. I advise you to resign before she does—maybe then Su Wanwan will calm down."Xiaofang stared in disbelief."Manager, what do you mean?""Everything I've done was to help you." Li Manya sighed."My advice now is also for your own good."With that, she waved for everyone to disperse.

That night, the company's WeChat group exploded. Rumors spread across departments, and everyone was shocked upon hearing the news."Is that employee a deadbeat?""The sales records are so blatant—I wouldn't believe it if I hadn't seen it myself.""Still, Xiaofang's reaction was a bit impulsive. But calling the police?""Really called the cops?""Yeah, Xiaofang's been taken to the station.""Wow... Su Wanwan is ruthless!"

Li Manya typed:"Actually, this is partly my fault for not stopping Xiaofang.""Manager, don't blame yourself. If anyone's at fault, it's Su Wanwan's cruelty!""I'm just curious—Su's family isn't some wealthy clan, how can they possibly afford her extravagant lifestyle?""By the way, when I left the company, I saw a Rolls-Royce waiting outside to pick up Su Wanwan...""Shocking!""Shocking x2...""Could she be kept by someone?""No way, who was picking her up?""A middle-aged man in his fifties..."

Su Nian watched the rapidly scrolling messages, a sardonic smile curling her lips.

The bathroom door creaked open. Ye Nan emerged, asking,"What are you looking at?"Su Nian hastily put down his phone,"Nothing... nothing at all.""Secretly checking my phone? Don't worry, Su Wanwan and I have completely cut ties."

Su Nian nodded and stepped toward him, wrapping her arms around him."I know, Nan-ge, I trust you."Ye Nan smiled, pulling her close as he sat on the bed, casually glancing at the screen.By coincidence, the chat was frozen on the conversation about the older man, the rest of the dialogue unseen. His expression instantly darkened.

Su Nian gazed at him, a hint of jealousy in her eyes."Nan-ge, are you jealous?"Ye Nan snapped back, voice icy:"I just didn't expect her to be so fickle.""Your sister's getting more and more blatant. I'm really afraid—if Master Fu finds out about this, what will his reaction be...""And I'm even more afraid that the Fu family might blame ours, cutting off future funding."

Su Nian's voice grew softer, almost plaintive."Don't worry."Ye Nan gently stroked her head."As long as I'm here, the Su family will never fall.""Thank you, Nan-ge."Su Nian nestled in his embrace, her eyes shimmering with quiet determination.

Su Wanwan, since you relish showing off so much, consider it granted.
