At this moment, the Examiner who duel with Yumi was completely lost in thought, his once hardened face now looked a bit lifeless, and his skin had become as pale as the Ash inside Yumi's deck.
During the entire duel, well, if you can call that a duel. The examiner, who was confident in his own skill as a duelist, was completely stomped by #111.
He didn't even get a chance to fight back, his strongest monster was turned into a whimpering pet. Then an anime girl beat it down before kicking him in the face.
What makes it even worse is that he didn't even manage to deal a single damage to Yumi, the entire duel was controlled by Yumi Uzushi.
At this moment, Yumi walks back toward the stand, his gaze falls on Crowler who was about to leave.
"I'm sorry to interrupt." A man in a black business suit appeared, stopping Crowler from leaving, much to his chagrin. "But the last applicants have arrived to take their exam, Mr. Crowler."
Although Yumi couldn't hear what they were saying from his position, Yumi could already guess that the famous jellyfish hair boy had finally arrived, and he was about to witness one of the most iconic duels in GX.
But before watching that duel, Yumi decides to activate his system.
His Card Printing System, as the name suggests, lets him print cards similar to the main character in Yu-Gi-Oh after talking about the "heart" of the cards, and their belief in their friends, suddenly prints out a card that wasn't in their deck before.
Of course, this system also has its limitations.
First, when printing a card, he needs to use his spirit energy; the stronger the card, the more spirit energy he needs.
Second, he found out that his spirit energy could be regenerated over time, and the limit of spirit energy he could hold slowly increased by dueling, from beating his opponent. He could obtain a portion of their spirit energy to increase his own.
Third, and the most important part, is that he needs to write and create those cards; he couldn't be like the protagonist who just draws a blank card with the image directly printed on it.
To put it short, this system is like Pegasus, the father of Duel Monster, who wrote and created his own cards for himself alone.
Yumi narrowed his gaze toward one of the cards he is creating, "Elemental HERO Sunrise" which is a powerful card. The material for this fusion card is 2 "HERO" monsters with different attributes. Upon summon, it lets him add a "Miracle Fusion" to his hand, and while this monster remains on the field, it increases his monster's ATK.
He then calmly added 1/4 of his spirit energy into the card, finishing it.
"Ughhh." Yumi let out a grunt, holding his head, the feeling of his spirit energy leaving his body was always uncomfortable.
'Master, you should stop turning your card into spirit.' Raye appeared beside him with her arms crossed, looking at him disapprovingly.
'I don't turn all my cards into spirit.' Yumi quickly dismissed his duel spirit's concern.
Since his cards are printed using his spirit energy, if given enough, those cards could manifest into duel spirits.
'Just make sure to save some spirit energy for me.' She said in annoyance, her face flushing a bit before she disappeared.
Yumi narrowed his gaze back toward the duel, seeing the tall skyscraper shooting high in the sky, as the tall hero with a single wing stood on top of the building, looking down at the massive golem standing in the center of the city.
"...With Skyscraper active, my 'Elemental HERO Flame Wingman' gains 1000 ATK when battling a monster with higher ATK, putting it above your 'Ancient Gear Golem'!
And when Flame Wingman destroys a monster by battle, it deals damage equal to that monster's ATK!
Go, Flame Shot!"
Crowler: "Mama Mia!!!"
With a huge explosion, Professor Crowler clutched his head and collapsed, his Ancient Gear Golem crumbling into rubble.
[Crowler, LP 0]
The whole crowd was stunned.
The academy's top professor lost?
With his legendary Ancient Gears, no less, to a bottom-ranked slacker?
And that wasn't even all.
The slacker, Jaden, jumped up, made a taunting gesture, and grinned, "I won! That was a fun duel, Professor!"
Crowler: "..."
...
The next morning, Yumi got up early.
He took his packed luggage, various duel disks, several completed decks, and over a hundred backup cards.
He boarded the special plane sent by Duel Academy for new students, flying to the legendary haven for rookies, Duel Academy.
Gotta say, when Kaiba invests, he goes big. The island was huge. In Season 2 of the anime, Jaden got lost for days on the island after returning with his Neo-Spacian deck. The island also had ancient ruins, secret labs, and all sorts of facilities.
So, though it's called a school, it's at least the size of a small town.
As the plane approached, Yumi looked out the window to survey the island, the lush forests, and the massive volcano in the background felt oddly familiar.
A sudden thought hit him: this aerial view… why does it look so much like Fire King Island?
Fire King Island is a core field spell for the Fire King deck, but it shouldn't exist in the GX anime.
Kira had never noticed before, but now, flying over Duel Academy, he realized the island looked almost exactly like the card art.
Just a coincidence… right?
At 9 a.m., the new students gathered in the auditorium for the opening ceremony and Chancellor Sheppard's speech.
"Welcome, elite duelists."
Chancellor Sheppard stood on the stage, speaking into the mic with a smile.
"All of you fought your way through narrow gates to be here-"
"Snore… snore…"
The snores from the front row drew the students' attention.
Yumi looked over, recognizing the boy sleeping was none other than Jaden Yuki, who had already fallen asleep by the second sentence.
Yumi had to admire Jaden's talent. Everyone was standing in front of the stage during the speech, and Jaden was near the front. To be able to sleep standing up, right in front of the school leadership, while ignoring the noise, was a unique skill.
Thud.
It looked like Jaden slipped up this time, falling over with a loud crash.
Professor Crowler, unable to bear it, called out, "The Chancellor Sheppard is speaking! Are you calcium-deficient?"
"Sorry, sorry," Jaden said, sitting up and scratching his head, "I slipped up a bit."
Crowler's face turned beet red like a Pot of Greed turning into a Pot of Avarice.
What kind of apology was that? Instead of being sorry for sleeping, he was just sorry for getting caught.
But before Crowler could erupt, Chancellor Sheppard smiled, "Well, it's the first day, let's not get angry. The students are tired from traveling, it's understandable."
Crowler had to swallow his anger for now.
Jaden stood up, then started dozing again, but Crowler never took his eyes off him for the rest of the speech.
Yumi now understood why the professor disliked Jaden so much.
He's well-connected, doesn't pay attention, doesn't do homework, but is annoyingly strong, no wonder other students are tempted to follow his example.
Crowler's methods might be extreme, but his motives weren't unreasonable.
After the ceremony, the new students received their uniforms, student IDs, and other essentials. Senior volunteers guided them through the paperwork and then to their dorms.
In Duel Academia, there are three different student dorms: Obelisk Blue, Ra Yellow, and Slifer Red.
Obelisk Blue is the highest-ranked dorm; some students are in blue because of their grades, others due to personal connections.
Ra Yellow is the second highest; those students have lots of potential.
And finally, Slifer Red, the dorm meant for the students with the lowest ranks.
Yumi, although his dueling skill was good, and his cards are strong, he still got thrown into Slifer Red due to his poor score.
Honestly, he didn't mind it too much, although the Slifer Red dorm isn't as good or as pristine as the other two dorms. Yumi found that the Slifer Red jacket fitted him more than the other two.
While walking toward his dorm room, he could see many people gaze at him, mostly because of his pin-- ahem! Magenta-colored hair.
Looking up at his own dorm room, Yumi used the key and opened the door to his new room. Walking inside, he looked around, recognizing the room was identical to the one in his memory.
As a night owl, he didn't even bother turning on the light; he just walked toward the bunk bed and tossed his bag up.
"Ow!" A somewhat nice moan rang out from the top bunk. Yumi looked up only to come face to face with a beautiful girl with long indigo hair. Her green eyes glaring down at him, before her gaze suddenly turned into confusion.
"Ehh?" The girl looked confused.
"Heh!?" Yumi was also confused.
The two look at each other for a bit. Yumi steps down from the ladder, walks toward the door, and double-checks the dorm number with his own ID card.
"Yup, I'm in the right dorm. So why is there a girl in my room?" He murmurs before his bag is suddenly thrown right back toward his head, hitting him on the back of the head.
"Alright, talk, what a pretty boy like you doing in the girls' dorm!?" She asks, her green eyes still glaring at him from the top of the bunk bed.
"How should I know? I only follow my student ID here." Yumi said, taking out his ID card and tossing it toward her.
The girl swiftly caught it before squinting her eyes, trying to read the card in the dark room.
"Could you turn on the light?" Although they could see a little in the dark room, there wasn't enough light to make up any noticeable detail.
Yumi searches for the light switch and flicks it on, lighting up the once-dark room.
Now with a clear look, Yumi began to feel a bit nostalgic seeing the Yu-Gi-Oh GX's Slifer Red dorm room, with nothing much besides a small cabinet for clothes, two desks, and the three lairs' bunk beds.
"Yumi Uzushi..."
Yumi turned, seeing the girl reading his ID card now with the light on, instantly he widened his eyes a little, as the girl sitting on the top bunk wearing only a long neck sleeveless black shirt, with black shorts and red short skirt. Her Slifer Red jacket was hanging on the edge of the bed.
For some reason, Yumi found the girl looking nearly identical to Celina in Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V.
"Ha! This is a girl's name!" She said, her early frown now turned into a teasing smirk as she held up Yumi's ID card. "No wonder why you got send into the female dorm side, instead of the male, they must have mistake you for a girl."
She chuckled before tossing the card back to Yumi.
"Hey, I didn't choose this name." Yumi complain, after reincarnating into this world, he once ask his parent why did they give him a girl's name. They said it was because they were hoping for a girl, and his idiot father decide to just name him Yumi without checking the gender first.
"Well, since we're gonna be roommates from now on, I'm Celina Hiiragi." She introduces herself, which causes Yumi to look confused.
"Shouldn't you be doing everything in your power to kick me out?"
Celina just shrugged. "You could try asking, but unless I make a big deal out of this, then the teacher probably won't care if you and I stay in the same room."
"Besides, Slifer Red is looked down on by nearly everyone in this school, so I don't think people would care much to go through all that paperwork just to send you to a different room."
Yumi was a bit taken aback. "That seems... highly irresponsible."
"Yeah, well, I'm planning to get promoted to Ra Yellow then Obelisk Blue. So I won't be staying here for long." She said with a lay back attitude that shock Yumi more than he has expected.
Normally girl won't want to stay in the same room with a boy, but this tomboy doesn't seem to mind it.
This mean she can kick my ass physically.
He concluded that, because that's the only sensible reason why she wasn't bothered by his present, it's because she didn't see him as a threat. Plus, after a few months, there would be an exam in which she could be promoted to Ra Yellow.
This also means that she is confident in her dueling skills, and she would be moving out of the dorm room anyway, so she didn't see any reason to make a big fuss about this.
"Say, there is still time before the Welcome Dinner." Celina said, pulling out a deck of cards. "Wanna duel to pass the time?"
