The Memory Beneath Feathers
Later that night. Dr. Emeka and Dr. Ebi-Owo sit in the observation room, staring at Clara through the glass wall.
"She spoke,Emeka she spoke... Chickens don't talk." Dr. Ebi-Owo said, breaking the silence.
In a low and composed voice,Dr. Emeka replied.
"She's not a chicken. She's someone else.... Something else."
Inside the hospital room,Clara clutches her chest, trembling. The hospital gown barely covers her massive feathered form. A flicker of something...a memory,crosses her eyes.
Clara was a university student. She was smart and fearless.
She's often seen with a backpack, laughing with friends.... quite an extrovert.
A final year biochemistry student.
One night,she was craving for a midnight snack,so she decided to step out of the dorm to get some snack outside.
The night air was chilling, and the outside world, was eerily quiet.
"It's just 10pm and the world is this quiet?" Clara muttered to herself rhetorically.
But suddenly a van drove out from the dark alley across the street and stopped right in front of her.
Clara sensed the danger...but before she could react and make a run of the situation.
Men in lab coats came out of the van and surrounded her. Clara tried to scream,but it was too late.
One of them covered her mouth with a clothe and darkness swallowed her.
Then they took her in the van and drove away.
