Synopsis
At 18, Kai Soren has lived the last five years with a hole where his father used to be. Ever since the world changed—since the Doors first appeared and swallowed his father whole—he’s lived under the shadow of loss, silence, and unanswered questions. Now on his graduation day of high school, Kai's life is little more than a routine of numbness—until one evening, when walking through the door of his room lands him in a reality that isn’t his own. Trapped inside a surreal realm, Kai is greeted by a cold, calculating system... which promises only one thing: “You want answers? Then survive.” As Kai begins to unravel the truth behind the Doors, he discovers fragments of his father's journey, fights beasts born from distant worlds, and forms bonds . But as the trials grow harsher and the System's motives blur, Kai must decide if the hope of seeing his father again is worth tearing open the seams of a world barely holding itself together.

Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 - Where Paths End, and Open.

The sky exploded with a shower of black squares, each graduation cap soaring like a dark bird released into the bright afternoon sun. Cheers echoed all around as caps spun and twirled in slow motion. In the middle of the large crowd of students happy to be done with their high school lives, was a man.

His dark hair covered his forehead the other ends reaching his neck. His eyes were dull with dark spots under them, his graduation cap on his hand. His face wore an expression no one was expected to wear on their graduation. He stares at the ground, seemingly lost in thought when a hand is placed on his shoulder.

???: Yo Kai!

Kai turns around, a tall guy, muscles still showing under his large black graduation gown looks down at Kai smiling at him. His blonde hair covers his eyes but its still noticable they're squinted. Kai's face wears a slight smile looking at the guy that approached him.

Kai: Yo, Zane.

His voice is hoarse, it's obvious he doesn't talk much. A slight wave of red envelops his face as he notices. Zane doesn't pay much attention to it.

Zane: It's really been nice knowing you bro, you're one of my greatest friends in this school even though we don't talk much anymore.

Kai looks down again, the smile on his face slowly fading. He knew it was true. He hadn't been talking to people much. He feels bad for not talking to his childhood best friend as much as they used to. Since the appearance of the doors five years ago, since the dissapearance of his father, Kai has never been the same.

The trauma of losing his father changed him and he knew it well. He lost all motivation in his life, the only reason he was around was to care for his mother. He couldn't bear watching his mother suffer alone.

Kai: Yeah, I'm sorry for that. You've been such a good friend, even though I've been mostly a dick ignoring you sometimes.

Zane: It's okay bro, I'd never leave your side or judge you for that.

They both stare at eachother knowing the reason for the small talk but they don't mention it, there's no need to mention it.

Zane: So, what are you gonna do after this? I'm planning on joining the DoorWalkers, I want to make the world a better place.

Kai stays silent, looking down at the floor. He can't answer the question because he has no idea.

RING RING RING

Kai removes his phone from his gown pocket, staring at it for a bit before picking it up. A woman's voice can be heard as they have a conversation. Kai agrees on something then puts the phone back in his pocket.

Kai: I would like to talk to you more but, I have to go. My mom wants me to take care of the house for a bit.

Zane looks at Kai for a bit before telling him goodbye as he walks off. Kai rushes back to his house passing through the busy streets of the city.

Why does she have to work so many job. He thinks to himself while frowning, the concern for his mom was obvious in him and he wasn't happy he couldn't do anything to help her. The most he could do was take care of the house as his mom worked hard to care for him and his school needs. Without his father around it was hard.

He never knew what he'd do with his life since all he had thought about was surviving till the next day for his mom. He would probably just get a small job without many problems and help his mom more. He couldn't leave her alone. He thought to himself as he opened his house door.

The house was silent, Kai didn't mind since his mom was rarely home always out working for him or asleep in her room. They never really talked much. The wooden boards under him creak as he takes of his shoes placing them next to the welcome mat. He instantly heads to his room. The room is spotless, his mom really does take care of him well, but he hates himself for that he thinks to himself while changing to some grey shorts and a white t-shirt.

Kai:(thoughts) Im gonna take a slight nap before I clean the house.

Kai jumps on to his bed laying face up at the ceiling of his room. The sunlight still penetrates his window. He doesn't like it but is too lazy to get up and close his curtains. In a minute his eyes heavy he falls asleep.

THUD.. THUD.. THUD..

Kai eyes shoot open as he sits up on his bed. Shit--He mutters to himself as he notices the darkness outside his window.

Kai:(thoughts) I overslept.. Wait what's that thudding sound.

He stares at his bedroom door.

Kai: Mom? You're Home?

Silence.

He gets up from his bed, approaching his bedroom door with caution. The air became colder the moment he stepped close to the door. His arms crossed as his hands gripped his triceps trying to fight against the cold.

His arms reach out for the door handle, instantly his arms shoot back. They were now red, not with heat but because of the cold.

His confusion turned to concern for his mom on the other side of the door. He wraps his hands with a towel at the foot of his bed.

He reaches out for the door handle its still cold but bearable. He pulls the door open. What he sees makes him drop the towel.

What the f*ck.
