c60: Discovering the Champion Level
"Hehe!!"
Looking at the terrified shortpants boys still frozen under Gardevoir's Confusion, Chen Xiaoxiao's smile only deepened. Even now, she felt that simply letting them off would be far too kind.
The right to enforce justice should never go to waste.
So naturally, she reached into her bag, pulled out her Pokédex, and activated the built-in Special Prosecutor Network App—a secure channel previously issued by the Huaxia Pokémon Prosecutor Bureau, designed for urgent enforcement contacts abroad.
She selected the Kenting precinct from the interface, submitted a quick Level 2 alert request, and uploaded the initial evidence packet.
Within five minutes, several officers from the Kenting Pokémon Security Division arrived on Arcanine mounts, attracting even more attention from tourists nearby.
The moment the shortpants boys saw the police officers, a spark of hope returned to their eyes perhaps this nightmare would be over.
but…
"Good morning, Prosecutor Chen! Did something happen?"
The leading officer dismounted smoothly, gave a formal salute, then turned to glance at the restrained suspects still bound in Gardevoir's psychic field.
Thanks to the secure system flagging Chen Xiaoxiao's legal credentials as an active licensed prosecutor from Huaxia, her identity had been confirmed immediately upon submission.
"Prosecutor?!"
The shortpants boys turned pale in an instant. Their expressions went from desperate to utterly broken.
"I'm filing charges. They commanded Pokémon to attack me directly in a public area. Several witnesses used their Pokédex Recorders to capture the incident. You can start collecting evidence from them first."
Chen Xiaoxiao pointed toward a group of beachgoers still holding up their devices some still recording, others replaying the footage.
"Understood. Xiaojie, start collecting video evidence and Pokédex logs from the civilians."
The leading officer gave the order. His subordinate immediately began going from person to person, retrieving copies of the footage.
Within a short time, enough data had been gathered. The officers transferred it to a Tacticam Projection Unit and reviewed the footage as a group.
One of the most damning clips came from a hiker who had accidentally started recording just as Chen Xiaoxiao got off Lapras capturing the entire confrontation from the very first insult to the Croagunk's "tackle" and the retaliation.
When Chen Xiaoxiao recognized that one of the videos captured everything, her internal voice practically screamed:
"Are you all complete morons?!"
Her face twitched slightly in disbelief.
You attacked someone in broad daylight, in a public space, on a tourist beach... and that someone was a certified international prosecutor?
Even by the standards of overconfident punks, this was record-breaking stupidity.
"You know," she muttered just loud enough for the chief officer to hear, "ordering a Pokémon to attack a human already violates Articles 4, 12, and 27 of the Trainer Conduct Charter."
She narrowed her eyes.
"But the fact that the target was an international law enforcement officer? That elevates the offense to Class S."
The lead officer, now visibly angered by what he'd seen in the footage, turned toward the shortpants boys, who had begun to shake uncontrollably.
"Attempted assault using Pokémon in a public area… and targeting a licensed prosecutor from the Huaxia League? Heh. Looks like you've really dug your own graves this time."
He glanced at his pad, where names and prior flags were populating.
"Oh? Repeat offenders too?"
That caught Chen Xiaoxiao's attention immediately.
She raised an eyebrow. "Repeat offenders?"
The officer nodded. "Two of them already have prior reports filed—allegations of harassment and aggressive Pokémon use at Kenting Beachfront and Shuiyan Park. Charges were dropped last time due to 'insufficient evidence.' But now? You've handed us everything we need."
He paused for a beat, then added:
"This time, there won't be any lucky escapes."
The shortpants boys didn't even try to beg anymore.
They simply stood there, frozen not from Gardevoir's Confusion, but from the realization that they were well and truly doomed.
"They're local thugs," the chief officer explained, his voice tinged with frustration. "They've long been a nuisance around here throwing their weight around Kenting's beaches and alleys. But they always stayed just on the edge of legality. Never attacked anyone directly. Every time we brought them in, it was just lectures and warnings. Nothing that stuck. But this time? They actually initiated a hostile Pokémon assault. In a protected zone, no less."
The officer's eyes gleamed as if he'd finally caught a predator after years of circling.
"So that's how it is. In that case, I'll leave them in your hands. Sorry to trouble you," Chen Xiaoxiao replied calmly, giving the standard prosecutor hand-off.
"No trouble at all, Prosecutor Chen. We're grateful you escalated it when you did. Please, if there's anything more urgent on your end, don't hesitate to leave them to us," the officer said with respectful formality. Inwardly, though, he was guessing: could this mainland prosecutor be on assignment regarding the rumored Treasure Island Legendary Sightings?
"Good."
Chen Xiaoxiao didn't offer any explanation. The truth was yes, this trip had personal significance. But no, it wasn't an official League mandate.
It was just very, very important to her.
With that incident handled and the beach cleared, Chen Xiaoxiao headed toward the upscale resort villa she'd rented in Kenting's Advanced Holiday District. A private seaside property, with a secure beach section fenced off for elite guests and high-tier trainers.
Once inside, she moved to the shoreline, pulled out her Poké Balls, and released her team.
Even Solgaleo, the Radiant Sun Pokémon, emerged with a roar of energy and brilliance his silver body shimmering beneath the fading Kenting sun.
As her Pokémon enjoyed the surf and sun, Chen Xiaoxiao leaned back and looked toward Solgaleo.
Ever since Xiao Xu Zi caught Entei, he's been parading it everywhere like a badge of superiority…
She crossed her arms, a spark of dissatisfaction in her gaze.
What's with that? We're both part of the Traversal Force. Why's he always acting mysterious, slinking around with Entei like it's classified?
She glanced at Solgaleo.
Nobody in this region even recognizes you as a mythical beast. Entei gets paraded on TV. But you
She shook her head.
No. I won't lose to a "local." I'm stronger than Xiao Xu Zi, and my support network is even stronger.
With a sharp glint in her eyes, she made a firm decision.
From now on, I'll ride Solgaleo more often. People need to see it.
If Lapras was the Galarian luxury cruiser of the water-type world…
Then Solgaleo was the Bugatti of battle mounts blazing, majestic, and unmistakably divine.
Throughout the Pokémon world's mount history, Solgaleo's gotta be the most photogenic!
(Purely personal opinion. Fight me.)
The next few days passed quietly.
Chen Xiaoxiao wandered Kenting's scenic spots, exploring the region, buying souvenirs, and trying out dozens of famous local snacks.
At a glance, it looked like a luxury trainer on vacation.
But at night, it was different.
She secretly left Solgaleo on guard duty outside the villa, acting as "bait" in hopes of attracting the presence of the mythical beast rumored to be hiding in the Kenting area.
Solgaleo kept monitoring nearby auras particularly anything unnaturally strong or using stealth movement skills like Agility.
But for several nights, nothing surfaced.
Then came this evening.
On the villa's private beach, under starlight, Chen Xiaoxiao was sprawled comfortably across Solgaleo's back, her feet dangling lazily as she uploaded her trip pictures to a private chat group.
She posted several shots from her Kenting exploration: beaches, villas, seafood markets, sunset selfies. They were filtered and captioned, of course.
Almost instantly, replies came pouring in.
"Wow! Sunshine, sea, villas your vacation looks amazing!" Leng Yue
"Hehe, you can come anytime!" Chen Xiaoxiao
"Forget it. Even if I go, I'll be swarmed by people following me. No way to actually enjoy it." Leng Yue
"I have a beach behind my house. Doesn't feel special anymore." He Xiaowen
As someone from a coastal city, He Xiaowen didn't get the same thrill out of beaches as Leng Yue, who lived far inland.
"It's like you stabbed me in the heart!" Leng Yue
Chen Xiaoxiao sent another batch of snack photos.
"Ugh! You're killing me I'm starving now!" He Xiaowen
As expected, the certified foodie had taken the bait.
"Come over then, Xiaowen! I've basically mapped out all of Kenting's snack zones!" Chen Xiaoxiao
She was getting bored on her own, and wouldn't mind a visit from a friend.
"Ugh, no can do! School starts soon. Even if I went, it'd just be for a couple days. Why didn't you ask me earlier?" He Xiaowen
"Ugh, school starting is such a downer." Leng Yue
"School? Wait, is it that time already?" Chen Xiaoxiao
"YES!" —X2
Chen Xiaoxiao checked her Pokédex calendar and sure enough, it was already the end of August.
She'd been on the road for over two months since her mid-June departure.
Most schools in the region were preparing to reopen for the fall term. So… no more weekend trips or spontaneous trainer outings.
Too bad. She really could've used some company.
After chatting for a while longer, Chen Xiaoxiao sighed as the time hit 10 p.m. and put away her Pokédex.
"Another day gone."
She sat up on Solgaleo's back and stretched.
After heading back inside the villa, she showered and changed into soft pajamas, preparing to crash for the night.
Then
"(Xiaoxiao. Several fast-moving Pokémon detected—Agility-class movement. Among them, one is at Champion-tier strength.)"
Solgaleo's telepathic voice echoed in her mind with sharp urgency.
Chen Xiaoxiao's eyes snapped open.
"Solgaleo hold on!"
She peeled off the pajamas she'd just changed into, threw on her travel wear, and dashed out barefoot.
Agility movement… and Champion-level energy? That can't be random. Could it finally be the Kenting legendary?!
She teleported straight onto Solgaleo's back in a flash of energy.
"Still have the location?"
"(Yes. 30 kilometers east.)"
"Perfect. Let's go. Stay high and fast observe from above. We don't want to be noticed just yet."
With a low roar, Solgaleo leapt into the air, warping the space around them as it accelerated.
The hunt was finally beginning.
