Chapter 4 - The perfect crush

The afternoon sun filtered softly through the leaves of the old oak tree, casting dappled shadows on the ground where Susan and Elena sat side by side. The schoolyard buzzed faintly in the distance, but here, in their quiet corner, time seemed to slow.

Susan glanced at Elena, noticing the calm confidence in her friend's eyes. "You've changed, Elena," she said gently. "Not just how you dress or act, but… you seem happier. Like you're finally comfortable in your own skin."

Elena smiled, a little shy but sincere. "I think I am. It's been a journey, you know? Trying to figure out who I really am, beyond what everyone expects."

Susan nodded thoughtfully. "I remember

when you used to say you felt like you were wearing a mask. Do you still feel that way?"

"Sometimes," Elena admitted. "But less and less. I'm learning that it's okay to be a mix of things-the tomboy, the girl who likes skirts, the artist, the friend. I don't have to fit into one box."

Susan grinned. "That's amazing, Elena. You've always been amazing. I'm proud of you for finding your own path."

Elena reached out and squeezed Susan's hand. "Thanks for always being there for me, even when I wasn't sure who I was."

Susan's eyes softened. "Always. No matter what, I've got your back."

They sat together in comfortable silence,

Susan watched Elena carefully, sensing there was something she wasn't saying.

"So…" Susan began, a teasing smile tugging at her lips, "what's really going on between you and Adrian? You've been different lately-more… sparkly. Spill."

Elena's cheeks flushed, and she looked away for a moment before meeting Susan's eyes. "It's nothing complicated," she said softly, but her voice betrayed a hint of excitement.

Susan raised an eyebrow. "Nothing complicated? Elena, you're practically glowing. Come on, you can tell me. Is it a crush? Something more?"

Elena bit her lip, then laughed nervously. "Okay, yes. I like him. More than just a crush, maybe. But it's confusing. I'm still figuring out who I am, and now there's this… this feeling I can't quite put into words."

Susan reached over and squeezed her hand. "That's okay. You don't have to have it all figured out. Just be honest with yourself-and with him. You deserve that."

Elena smiled, feeling the warmth of Susan's support. "Thanks. I'm lucky to have you."

Elena took a deep breath, her fingers nervously twisting a strand of her hair

Elena looked relieved but still uncertain. "Sometimes it feels confusing, like I'm still figuring out who I am, but these feelings for him are real."

Susan reached out and squeezed her hand gently. "Crushes can be messy and wonderful all at once. Just remember, no matter what happens, I'm here for you. And you deserve to be happy-being true to yourself and your feelings."

Elena smiled, feeling a weight lift off her chest. "Thanks, Susan. It means a lot to have you by my side."

Susan grinned playfully. "Now spill all the details! What's he like when he's around you? I want the full story."

"When I'm around Adrian," Elena said, "it's like… everything else just fades away. I don't feel like I have to pretend or be anyone else. He makes me feel safe, like I can just be me."

Susan leaned in, curious. "Safe how? Like, no pressure?"

Elena nodded. "Exactly. And he listens-really listens. When he looks at me, it's like he sees all the parts of me, even the ones I'm not sure about yet. It's kind of scary but also… really comforting."

She smiled shyly. "And his laugh? It's contagious. When he laughs, I can't help but laugh too, even if I'm having a bad day. He just has this way of making everything feel lighter."

Susan grinned. "Sounds like he's pretty amazing."

"He is," Elena agreed, her gaze drifting to the sky. "Being with him makes me want to be braver, to explore who I really am without all the doubts. It's like he's a light in the middle of all my confusion."

Susan reached out and squeezed Elena's hand. "That's beautiful, Elena. I'm so happy you have someone like that."

Elena smiled, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. "Me too. It's new and a little scary, but it feels right."
