Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Lines That Shouldn’t Be Crossed

Selene wasn't sure how she made it back to her apartment.

Her mind was a haze, tangled between Kieran's words and the undeniable truth she refused to face.

She wasn't alone anymore.

That should have terrified her.

But instead, it made something inside her stir—something dangerous.

She shut the door behind her, leaning against it for a moment, exhaling slowly. The city skyline stretched outside her window, its neon lights flickering against the glass. The world was moving on as if nothing had changed. As if her entire foundation hadn't cracked beneath her feet.

A knock at the door shattered the silence.

Selene's breath caught. She didn't have to ask who it was.

Slowly, she opened the door.

Kieran stood there, his broad frame taking up the space like he belonged there. Like he had always belonged there.

Neither of them spoke.

Then he stepped inside.

The door clicked shut behind him, and suddenly, the distance between them felt unbearable.

She should tell him to leave.

She should tell him that this wasn't right, that they were crossing a line neither of them could ever come back from.

But she didn't.

Kieran's gaze dropped to her lips, and something inside her broke.

Her breath hitched as he reached up, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His fingers lingered for a moment too long, sending heat racing down her spine.

"This is a mistake," she whispered, but even she didn't believe it.

Kieran's lips twitched, his eyes darkening. "Maybe."

His fingers traced down her arm, slow and deliberate.

Selene shivered.

She was drowning in him, in the scent of him, in the way he looked at her like she was the only thing in the world that mattered.

This wasn't just attraction.

This was an obsession.

And it was about to consume them both.

Her resolve cracked.

The next thing she knew, Kieran's hand was at the back of her neck, pulling her closer, his breath warm against her lips.

She should stop this.

She should push him away.

But she didn't.

Instead, she closed the distance.

Their lips met in a slow, burning kiss that unraveled every carefully built wall she had left.

Kieran growled low in his throat, his hands gripping her waist, pulling her against him.

Selene gasped as heat flooded through her, the taste of him making her dizzy.

This was wrong.

This was inevitable.

And there was no turning back now.
