Chapter 6 - Chapter 6- Ticket to freedom

 Lexi

"Rhea!" I said as soon as Rhea picked up the call.

I had been trying to reach her ever since Richard dropped me off and left for his meeting an hour ago.

"Hey, how are you enjoying the first day of work?" Rhea asked in her usual sweet voice. Oblivious to my anger

"I am not," I said flatly.

 There was a pause.

"Oh, well, I'm sorry to hear that. Is your boss an ass?"

"Worse," I gritted out, impatience taking over me. The image of meeting the man I had slept with assaulted my eyes and I felt the urge to cry.

"Oh, do we need to sue or?" she asked, her voice a little strained with worry. Gone was the sweet voice.

"If I could sue you and Eve, I fucking would."

 Another pause.

 "What are you talking about?"

"Oh, I'll tell you. Remember the Valentine y'all set me up with?"

"Yeah of course. You said you had fun,"

Her sweet voice came forth once more.

 "He's my boss,"

There was a long awkward pause.

 "I don't understand. That's impossible."

"I thought so too until I found out he only signed up on the website as a fucking bet or because he lost a bet..I don't really care all I know is that I am so mad at you right now,"

"He signed up as a bet? That's insane! Oh, my God. I am so sorry, Lex. Eve and I were only trying to help,"

"Guess who feels anything but helped?"

"I'm sorry. That must have been awkward as hell. How do I make it up to you?"

"You can buy me a plane ticket to go back. I quit the job but I'm stuck here because he refused to pay for my plane ticket,"

"That's fucking awkward. I'm so sorry,"

"Oh, sorry is not going to cut it, I'm so mad at the both of you!"

"Shit. I'll get you your plane ticket right now. I really feel horrible."

"Thank you," I said and hung up, still very angry. The fact that this was happening to me was no surprise but I could easily have prevented it if I didn't have insahc friends.

I plopped down back on the couch.

I had no idea how I was going to find another job in such short notice, at least anyone that was remotely as good as this but I was going to try.

I needed this job but I couldn't continue working here.

Not after the disaster within the last two days.

Alone in the hotel room, I decided to order some room service under Richard's name.

If he wasn't going to get me a plane ticket, I might as well buy whatever I wanted.

I ordered food worth over 500$.

I knew it wasn't much to him but I couldn't exactly buy food worth a million dollars.

It was around an hour later when Rhea sent me my ticket.

I was to leave in three hours and thirty minutes.

I wasted no time, I packed my bags and left the hotel but not after thanking Rhea begrudgingly.

I was absolutely still mad at my friends but I appreciated them for getting me my ticket.

Four hours later, I was back in my apartment, feeling relieved.

There was no way I could have survived two days with an arrogant bastard like that.

I would have possibly killed him before the end of today.

I immediately took a long needed shower, trying to wash away all the annoyance I felt. I later fell asleep.

When I woke up hours later, I began to apply for jobs. Any position would be great. Most of the entry salaries weren't the best but what choice did I have?

I had to pay up my loans and I had bills to pay.

I closed my computer when I was finally done, I poured myself a generous amount of wine after ordering for Pizza.

I was halfway done with my pizza when I heard a knock at my door.

I paused mid sip and placed my wine back on the table.

I just wanted a nice peaceful night. Who could that possibly be now?

 I wondered.

I checked the peephole and found two women standing outside my door.

 I immediately opened my door.

 "Well, well, well."

"Lexi!" Rhea hugged me tight like she was trying to smoother me while Evelyn ruffled my hair as she slipped into my house.

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know," Rhea poured, her puppy dog eyes and adorable cheeks begging me for forgiveness.

"Don't use those eyes on me. I'm not your boyfriend. I'm still so mad at the both of you,"

I said, stepping aside and letting her in.

They were both holding shopping bags.

"I really am sorry, Lex. If we'd known, we wouldn't have set you up but just so you know. It was Rhea's idea.

"What the hell, Eve!" Rhea glared.

I couldn't help but roll my eyes at both of them.

"What? It was your idea. I told you repeatedly just to get her only gifts but the match maker in you couldn't help herself,"

"I hate you," Rhea glared good-naturedly.

"It doesn't matter whose idea it was, you both owe me big time."

I said with my hands on my hips.

"And that's why we brought you gifts and souvenirs from our trip,"

My eyes narrowed. I was going to make this difficult for them but they came prepared.

This was exactly why it was hard to stay mad at them.

"I hate you guys," I chuckled

"We know and we are sorry. No more setting you up with anyone. Promise,"

I took the bags from them and there were a bunch of clothes, bikinis, shoes, some weird tiny Buddha sculptures and a few Action figures of Wonder woman and storm.

There were at least two watches and a few pieces of jewelry.

"Damn, I forgive even your future offenses," I blurted out.

 They both chuckled.

I turned around and stretched out my hands in a hug.

"Alright, bring it in," I invited them and they practically jumped on

me, sending us all to the floor.

We all laughed at each other.

"So, tell us. Was the sex at least good?" Eve asked when we were seated eating pizza and drinking wine.

"I don't want to talk about it,"
