Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: The Last Card

12:00 PM – Helix HQ, Security Command Center

Malco Frey stood before a wall of monitors, the glowing screens displaying surveillance footage, system diagnostics, and security updates. His face was hard, set in a mask of determination. But underneath the cold exterior, there was a storm.

Eron had already outmaneuvered him. He knew it now. The breach in the archives, the ghost server, the message left behind—it was all part of a bigger play. And Malco had underestimated his opponent.

"Sir," an agent said, breaking his concentration. "We've located another device. It's transmitting data to an external source."

Malco turned sharply, his eyes narrowing. "Where?"

The agent pointed to a map of the building's network. "The data is being sent from Level 7, deep within the secure operations section. The firewall's been bypassed again. We can't track it."

Malco's jaw clenched. Level 7.

That was supposed to be his last line of defense. His personal vault.

"Eron's not hiding anymore," Malco muttered under his breath. "He's not just breaking in. He's making a statement."

12:15 PM – Rooftop Journal Entry – Try #100,008

> The walls are closing in.

Malco is too focused on his pride to see the chessboard.

I have to take the next step or everything I've built will crumble.

Kamira doesn't trust me. And I can't afford her hesitation.

The next move will either break us or free us.

I've played this game so many times, but this is the end of the loop.

---

12:30 PM – Helix HQ, Director's Lounge

Kamira leaned against the cool glass wall, staring out at the city skyline. The weight of the decision ahead was heavy on her shoulders. She had seen what Eron was capable of. She knew the danger of his ambition. But she also knew that Malco was a monster in a well-tailored suit.

The phone buzzed again. A single message:

> "Do you trust me?"

It was from Eron.

She hesitated, staring at the screen. Did she trust him?

Her mind flashed back to the countless times they had crossed paths, the moments when Eron had used her, manipulated her. But then, there were moments when he had stopped. When he had chosen to give her a way out.

The question wasn't if she trusted him. It was whether she believed in his cause.

She typed back:

> "I'm in. But this ends today."

---

12:45 PM – Helix HQ, Level 7 Vault

Malco walked briskly down the sterile corridor, his shoes clicking against the polished floors. His personal guard flanked him, their faces hidden behind dark visors, expressions unreadable.

They reached the vault door. The security guard in front tapped in a code, but the lock refused to open.

Malco's brow furrowed. "What's going on?"

"Sir, we've detected an error in the system. A rogue code is blocking the access. We are attempting to bypass it now."

Malco's lips curled into a smile. It wasn't anger anymore. It was understanding.

Eron had planned this. All of it.

He had manipulated the system to make Malco feel in control when he wasn't. The archives were one thing, but the vault—that was where all of Malco's power was stored. And now, it was slipping through his fingers.

"Keep trying," Malco ordered, his voice as cold as steel.

The guard nodded and returned to his work.

---

12:50 PM – Helix HQ, Lobby

Eron stood near the entrance, watching the chaos unfold on the monitors. He had expected a response from Malco. But this level of desperation was new.

He smiled to himself.

The walls around Helix were crumbling, and soon, Malco would realize he had no more cards to play.

He had planned for this moment.

---

12:55 PM – Helix HQ, Malco's Command Center

Malco returned to the command center, his face ashen. The vault was still locked.

"Dorian," he said quietly, his voice tinged with frustration. "We're out of time. What do we do now?"

The director stood at the edge of the room, his hands clasped behind his back. He turned slowly, his face unreadable.

"I've already made my decision, Malco."

Malco's heart skipped a beat.

"What decision?" he demanded.

"I'm pulling out of this mess," Dorian replied, his voice calm but firm. "Helix is too far gone. It's over."

Malco's eyes widened in disbelief. "You can't. You don't know what's at stake here."

Dorian's gaze softened slightly, but there was no turning back now.

"It's not about what's at stake anymore. It's about what we've already lost."

1:00 PM – Helix HQ, Director's Lounge

Kamira walked through the quiet, sterile halls of Helix HQ, her footsteps echoing off the polished marble floors. The weight of her decision settled heavily on her shoulders. She had chosen her side, but the consequences were yet to unfold.

The hallway seemed endless, but in her mind, the path was clear. She had betrayed Malco. There was no going back now. He would never forgive her. But the truth was, she couldn't follow him any longer. His vision, his control, his need for power—it was too much for her to bear.

As she approached the elevator, her phone buzzed again. The screen displayed a new message from Eron:

> "You're in. You know the plan. Make sure Malco doesn't see you coming."

Kamira's heart raced. This was it. She was about to play her final card. She pressed the button to call the elevator, but her mind wandered. Could she do this? Could she really bring down everything they had built?

---

1:10 PM – Helix HQ, Main Control Room

Malco's eyes were locked on the live feeds from the security cameras. The servers were still malfunctioning, and his frustration was beginning to boil over. It wasn't just the vault that had been compromised—his entire operation was unraveling in real time.

The ghost server had sent a final pulse through the network, and Malco knew what it meant. He had lost the upper hand.

"Get me Dorian," Malco snapped, his voice sharp as a blade.

One of the agents, a younger man with short-cropped hair, nodded and turned to dial the secure line. Malco ran a hand through his hair, the weight of impending failure pressing down on him. The security breach, the leaks, Kamira's betrayal—it was all falling apart.

Finally, the screen flickered to life, showing Dorian's calm face. His expression was unreadable, but Malco could tell that Dorian had already made up his mind.

"You have to stop this, Dorian," Malco said, desperation in his voice. "You have no idea what's coming. Eron is playing us both. You can't just walk away."

Dorian's gaze never wavered. "I don't have a choice anymore, Malco. It's over. You've lost."

Malco's grip tightened around the edge of the table. "You think I've lost? This isn't over. You still don't understand what's at stake, do you?"

Dorian leaned back, his face a mask of indifference. "I understand more than you think."

---

1:20 PM – Helix HQ, Underground Labs

Eron stood before a wall of monitors, the screens displaying various security feeds from across the building. The entire compound was in chaos, but the final pieces of his plan were falling into place.

Kamira arrived moments later, slipping through a side entrance and making her way toward him. She didn't speak at first, but the look in her eyes said everything.

"We're almost there," Eron said, his voice low but filled with purpose. "Malco's about to make his move, but it won't matter. It's already too late."

Kamira's gaze flickered toward the large screen in front of them. The security footage showed Malco pacing in his command center, his eyes wild with frustration. He had no idea what was about to hit him.

"What's the next step?" Kamira asked, her voice steady but laced with uncertainty.

Eron smiled, a small, knowing curve of his lips. "We hit him where it hurts the most. His legacy. His empire. It's time to tear it down, piece by piece."

---

1:30 PM – Helix HQ, Malco's Command Center

Malco paced back and forth in his command center, his mind racing. The system was failing, and every passing second brought him closer to a total collapse. The rogue device was still transmitting, still active, and he knew that without it, he wouldn't stand a chance.

"Get me the backup plans," Malco snapped to his team.

His agents scrambled to comply, but as they worked, Malco's mind kept circling back to the same thought: Kamira.

She was the one who had truly betrayed him. She was the key to everything, the one who had been at his side and had turned away. If only he had known sooner. If only he had seen through her…

But it was too late.

---

1:40 PM – Helix HQ, Underground Labs

Eron watched the monitors with a steely gaze, his eyes tracking the movements of Malco's agents. The chaos unfolding within Helix was exactly what he had planned, and now, all that was left was the final blow.

He turned to Kamira, who was already preparing the last phase of their operation.

"We're almost done," Eron said quietly. "Once this is done, Helix is gone. And we'll both have what we need."

Kamira's gaze was fixed on the screens, but there was a flicker of doubt in her eyes. "And Malco?"

Eron's smile widened. "He'll be a memory. Nothing more."

Kamira turned to face him, her expression hardening. "And you? What happens to you after all this?"

Eron's eyes sparkled with cold determination. "I take what's mine. And nothing will stop me."

---

1:50 PM – Helix HQ, Command Center

Malco's frustration reached its peak. The plan was slipping through his fingers, and there was nothing he could do to stop it.

But then, as he sat in his chair, something clicked.

He wasn't finished. Not yet. There was one last card to play.

"Activate the emergency protocol," Malco barked. "Prepare for the shutdown sequence. Get me all available units. We're going on the offensive."

2:00 PM – Helix HQ, Main Control Room

Malco's voice thundered through the air, firm and unwavering as he barked orders at his team. His mind was locked onto the singular goal: regain control.

"Activate the shutdown sequence for all non-essential systems. Lock down every exit," Malco commanded, his eyes darting between the screens that showed the chaos unfolding. The network was slowly starting to recalibrate. He wasn't beaten yet. Not yet.

The agents around him scrambled to carry out his orders, fingers flying across keyboards and screens flickering as various systems went offline. The power surges across the facility were becoming visible, and alarms began to blare, signaling an impending shutdown.

But Eron wasn't done.

Through the open comms channel, a calm, mocking voice broke the silence.

"Malco, I hope you're ready for the grand finale."

Malco froze, his hands gripping the back of his chair as the voice of his adversary echoed through the room. Eron. Calm. Confident.

"Come to stop me, Eron?" Malco sneered, though a cold dread was creeping into his chest. "It's over. You're too late."

The response came, cool as ever: "Too late? Oh no, Malco, this is just the beginning."

Malco's eyes narrowed. He had underestimated Eron once. He wasn't going to make the same mistake again.

---

2:10 PM – Helix HQ, Underground Labs

Eron stood at the center of the underground lab, Kamira at his side, her eyes still betraying some hesitation. She hadn't fully committed yet, but Eron knew she would. She always did. He had studied her too long to miss the signs.

The room was filled with a low hum, the artificial intelligence systems feeding Eron real-time data from every corner of the building. As the final phase of his plan neared completion, he glanced at Kamira.

"It's time," he said softly.

Kamira looked at him, her eyes distant, as if she were torn between two worlds. But as always, she did what needed to be done. She activated the final switch, a sequence that would destabilize Helix's central core.

A moment later, the entire building shook.

---

2:15 PM – Helix HQ, Control Center

The tremors rattled the security consoles, and the monitors on Malco's desk flickered and cut out. His heart pounded as the magnitude of what was happening hit him.

"Report!" he barked, but the agents around him were scrambling, struggling to keep control as more systems began to fail. Lights flickered and alarms blared, each one a reminder of his growing loss of power.

In the back of his mind, he could hear Eron's voice again: "Too late."

"No," Malco whispered, his face pale. "Not yet."

His hand slammed onto the control panel, triggering the emergency countermeasures. The power grid surged, but it wasn't enough to stabilize the building. The core system had already been breached.

He needed to act fast. Time was running out.

---

2:20 PM – Helix HQ, Elevator Shaft

Kamira stepped out of the elevator and into the hallway, the hum of machinery below her feet. She glanced over at Eron, who walked beside her with a calm confidence. Everything had led to this moment. Everything hinged on the next few minutes.

"Malco's not going to let us leave easily," Kamira said, her voice cold but determined.

"I know," Eron replied, his eyes never leaving the path ahead. "He won't have a choice."

They reached a set of secured doors, each one armed with the highest security protocols. Kamira paused, eyeing the reinforced steel walls. The final obstacle before them.

With a few quick commands on her wristpad, she bypassed the security, overriding the system effortlessly. The doors slid open with a soft hiss, revealing the heart of Helix's operations.

This was it.

---

2:25 PM – Helix HQ, Control Center

Back in the control room, Malco's frustration boiled over as another system went down, one after another. His last-ditch efforts to stabilize the facility were slipping away. Eron had him cornered, and his grip on the empire was weakening. There was no longer a plan B.

"Get me Dorian!" Malco shouted, his voice raw with panic.

The younger agent dialed the secure line, but the screen flickered and died, a black void where Dorian's face had once been. Malco slammed his fist onto the desk in frustration.

"Where is he?" Malco demanded, fury building inside him.

No answer. His team was scrambling, but the hole in his defenses had widened too much.

---

2:30 PM – Helix HQ, Core Room

Kamira and Eron entered the heart of the Helix facility, where the main reactor hummed with energy, an enormous machine that powered everything. The room was lit only by the glow of various screens and the harsh red emergency lights above them.

"This is it," Kamira whispered.

Eron's smile was tight but confident. "It ends here."

He approached the central console, his fingers moving swiftly across the touchpad. Kamira watched as the screens blinked to life, showing their final mission.

"Once I initiate this final sequence, Helix will go dark. The entire network will collapse. Every file, every secret you and Malco have been hiding will be exposed," Eron said, his voice cool and calculated.

Kamira hesitated for a moment. The doubt that had lingered in her mind finally found a voice. "Are we doing the right thing?"

Eron looked at her, his eyes piercing. "We're doing what's necessary. Malco can't continue. His empire was built on lies, and I will end it. For good."

She took a deep breath, steeling herself for what was coming. They were on the precipice of something irreversible.

Kamira pressed a sequence of keys, her hands steady, and initiated the shutdown.

The countdown began.

---

2:35 PM – Helix HQ, Control Center

Malco's voice was hoarse as he watched the lights flicker, knowing it was only a matter of time before the facility fell apart. His empire, his control—it was all slipping away, piece by piece.

The room fell silent, save for the deafening hum of failing systems. Malco stood, motionless, in front of the screens.

He had one final play, but would it be enough?

2:40 PM – Helix HQ, Core Room

The countdown clock on the central console was ticking down, each passing second a reminder that Helix was on the verge of collapse. Kamira and Eron stood side by side, their eyes fixed on the numbers flashing across the screen. The pulse of energy from the reactor seemed to vibrate through the very walls of the facility.

Kamira's hand hovered over the final confirmation key. The weight of her decision was suffocating. This wasn't just a system failure they were triggering; this was the complete dismantling of everything they had built. Helix would fall, and with it, all the data, secrets, and power Malco had accumulated over the years would be erased.

But there was something else in the air—something Kamira couldn't shake. A sense of inevitability.

"Are you sure?" she asked quietly, looking at Eron. "Once I do this, there's no going back."

Eron didn't look at her. His eyes were locked onto the screen, his mind already calculating the aftermath. "There was never a going back, Kamira. Malco won't stop until he's destroyed everything. And neither will I."

The decision was made. Kamira pressed the button.

---

2:45 PM – Helix HQ, Command Center

Malco was watching the countdown unfold on his screen, his face pale. Every instinct told him to act, but all his efforts to stop the meltdown were failing. His empire was crashing around him, and he knew deep down that this was the end. His pulse quickened.

"Malco," Dorian's voice crackled through the comm, urgent and serious.

The screen flickered, showing Dorian's face. He was standing in a maintenance corridor, sweating and agitated. "I can't stop it. You've been breached. Eron and Kamira—they've initiated the shutdown."

Malco's eyes hardened. He clenched his fist, fighting to hold his composure. "Not yet, Dorian. I'm not done."

He activated the final code sequence to activate the backup reactor. He wasn't ready to surrender yet. This wasn't over.

---

2:50 PM – Helix HQ, Core Room

The hum of the reactor intensified, and the screens began to blink erratically. Kamira's pulse quickened, but her gaze never wavered from the countdown clock.

"Malco's trying to reboot the backup systems," Kamira said, her voice steady despite the gravity of the situation. "It won't be enough."

Eron nodded, his expression cold. "It's already too late."

As the countdown ticked down to zero, Kamira braced herself. The room was filled with a deafening sound, like a massive electrical surge, as the reactor shut down completely.

In that instant, everything went dark.

---

2:55 PM – Helix HQ, Control Center

The control center was plunged into darkness, and the monitors around Malco blinked out. His jaw tightened as he stared at the blackened screens. It was over.

"Report!" he shouted, but his voice was swallowed by the silence.

The backup systems, his last hope, were gone. He felt his grip on reality slip as panic rose in his chest. He had nothing left.

As his agents scrambled to regain control, he turned toward the door, ready to make his final stand. But before he could take a step, the command center doors burst open.

Kamira and Eron entered, their faces expressionless.

"Kamira…" Malco's voice was ragged, a hint of desperation slipping through. "I gave you everything. You owe me your loyalty. Why are you doing this?"

Kamira's gaze met his, unwavering. "You gave me nothing, Malco. You took everything from me. From us."

Her words cut deeper than any physical wound. This was the end of their alliance. The moment had arrived.

Eron stepped forward, his voice cold. "Your empire is over, Malco. No more lies. No more manipulation."

Malco's eyes blazed with fury. "You think this is over? I won't let you get away with this."

His hand reached for the emergency console beneath the desk. He wasn't done. Not yet.

---

3:00 PM – Helix HQ, Control Center

Malco's finger hovered over the final button. He had one more trick up his sleeve—a last resort. But Kamira and Eron were closing in. The building was on the brink of collapse, the network completely fried.

Kamira's eyes never left Malco. She knew what he was thinking. The final, desperate move. But it would be too late for that now.

"Don't, Malco," she warned. "This is over. Let it go."

He looked at her, his expression filled with disbelief. "You were always weak, Kamira. You just didn't have the strength to finish what we started."

Eron's voice was like ice. "No, Malco. You didn't have the strength to see it through. You never understood what you were fighting for."

The silence that followed was heavy, pregnant with finality. Malco's eyes shifted between Kamira and Eron, realization dawning on him like a slow-moving tide.

He took a step back. It was over.

He slumped into the chair behind him, his energy drained, his empire crumbling.

Kamira approached the console and pressed a final sequence, officially severing the last connection to Helix's central systems. The countdown was now irreversible. The building would shut down completely in minutes, leaving only ruins behind.

---

3:05 PM – Helix HQ, Exterior

From the outside, the Helix headquarters looked like an imposing structure, the beacon of power and control that once symbolized Malco's ambition. But now, its lights were dimming, flickering like the last breath of a dying titan.

Kamira and Eron stood together, watching the chaos unfold from a safe distance. They had done it.

Kamira exhaled deeply, as if releasing the weight of a thousand years. The world was no longer controlled by Helix, and the people—the victims—would soon be free. But it came at a cost. The shadow of Malco's legacy would always linger, and the battle for control was never truly over.

But for now, the fight was theirs.
