Chapter 93: To Understand the Ork, One Must Become the Ork (Bonus Chapter)
However, while repairing the warship just required some time, how to transport this vessel back to Agathos was the problem Lucan had to consider.
It could even be said that Lucan was completely clueless.
Although this warship's Warp Drive was still functional, he currently had no way to find the psyker consumables to maintain a Gellar Field, nor a sufficiently powerful Navigator.
And the distance between this star system and Agathos was extremely far; conventional FTL travel, even exceeding the speed of light, would take who-knows-how-long.
As for traveling through the Warp, even if he had the psyker consumables and a Navigator, the innumerable fierce Warp storms within would be too much for even this Golden Age warship to withstand.
In such a remote region, the light of the God-Emperor's Astronomican was completely imperceptible.
The risk was simply too great. Even if the warship wasn't destroyed, any accident that caused it to become lost in the Warp was no different from a death sentence.
Lucan asked the Tech-Priests if they could directly abandon the three Gorgons and transfer all their jump drives to the Stellar Pioneer, but this was immediately vetoed by the Tech-Priests.
The reverse-engineering was only in its initial stages; they hadn't even made a breakthrough yet. They simply hadn't mastered the necessary technology and precautions required for a direct migration.
The probability of the jump drives failing to operate was as high as 99.99%!
Not even the most pleased machine spirit could accomplish such an operation.
This wasn't something you could just install and expect to run directly.
"By the Holy Machine, my Lord, not to mention the technical skill involved, what if the jump drives are damaged during the removal process? Wouldn't the loss outweigh the gain?! The risk is too great!"
The Tech-Priests truly couldn't fulfill Lucan's request. Perhaps only if the Omnissiah himself descended could such a thing be accomplished.
"Is there really no way?! Think again!!"
"My Lord! We are not those Greenskins, who can just 'fink' things together! If this were any other branch of the Adeptus Mechanicus, the required procedures and time would be even more complex. A rash disassembly might even displease the machine spirit and cause it to go on strike! We no longer have to perform rituals to awaken every machine spirit!"
"Hmm?! Wait! What did you just say?"
"I said, other branches of the Mechanicus…"
"No, the sentence before that."
"...not like the Greenskins who just 'fink' things up."
"That's it… why don't we act like the Greenskins?!"
The Tech-Priest's words suddenly gave Lucan an idea.
"Like the Greenskins, my Lord? We are human; how could we possibly do such a thing? And these words you're speaking, aren't they…"
"We are human, but don't we have Greenskins under our command?"
Lucan suddenly remembered. Didn't the prisoner report mention that Ork Big Mek, and a considerable number of Mekboyz?
Their "I reckon" power had fixed quite a few things within this warship.
What if he had this group of Ork Meks "fink" about whether they could achieve a simple disassembly and installation, making the drives usable immediately?
Lucan also wasn't worried that this group of Orks could master this technology. Afterwards, he could just kill them all to tie up loose ends, couldn't he?
Deciding to act, Lucan, taking a translator, immediately had soldiers take him to find that Big Mek.
And at this moment, KABOOM! had no idea of his impending fate.
He was currently doing hard labor with a group of Ork Boyz.
"How can da smartest Big Mek, KABOOM!, be doin' dis hard labor…"
He, who was once high and mighty, had actually been reduced to working alongside Grots.
KABOOM! wanted to hide some parts to "fink" up a weapon to kill these "shrimpies," but having been stripped bare, he had no place to hide these parts.
"Maybe… I can stuff 'em up me own backside…"
But the shrimpies constantly monitoring him made it impossible for him to even attempt this.
Just as he was "finking" about how to escape, he saw the Night Sentinels leading Lucan towards him.
The surrounding Orks had all witnessed the power of Lucan and the Night Sentinels; they all looked at them with fear.
"It's 'im! It's dat shrimpy dat krumped Irongob!"
KABOOM! watched as Lucan walked up to him, and he too felt fear.
Guided by the soldiers, Lucan walked up to KABOOM!
"You're the smartest Big Mek?"
KABOOM! was surprised to find that the other party could actually speak the Ork language, which was, of course, the function of the translator.
KABOOM! wanted to play dumb and say he wasn't, but the Orks' inherent nature to boast made KABOOM!, upon hearing Lucan's address to him, admit it without hesitation.
"Dat's right, dat's me! I, KABOOM!, am da smartest Big Mek!"
Seeing the other party's initial fear followed by excited acceptance of the praise, Lucan felt a little like laughing.
"KABOOM!, do you want to become an even smarter, more WAAAGH! Big Mek? I have some good stuff I want you to 'fink' about!"
Hearing Lucan's words, KABOOM! became excited again. Nothing interested KABOOM! more than "finking" up and creating new things. Many of the things these shrimpies had, he had never seen before.
Although he didn't know what the shrimpy before him wanted him to do, he was more than happy to accept if it meant he didn't have to do hard labor here and could instead create some mind-blowing Orky teknology.
Under the escort of a full squad of Raiders and two Night Sentinels, KABOOM! was brought to the side of a Gorgon's jump drive.
A nearby Tech-Priest looked at this filthy Ork with indescribable disgust, but under Lucan's command, he had no choice but to begin explaining the concept of the jump drive to KABOOM!
KABOOM! listened to the Tech-Priest's words in a daze. Although he hadn't completely "finked" it all out yet, he was starting to get some ideas.
"KABOOM!, if you install these engines in that warship and make it have the functions I just described to you, then I will help you become the most WAAAGH! Big Mek on this entire planet!"
Lucan's words lingered in KABOOM!'s ears.
"Da whole planet… da most WAAAGH!..."
KABOOM! was tempted.
"I can definitely do it! But I can't do it alone! I need more Mekboyz and Grots!"
KABOOM! stated his demand. A single Ork's "I reckon" power was limited. Only when enough Mekboyz "finked" together could the "I reckon" power influence the laws of the physical world.
Lucan agreed to KABOOM!'s request and assigned all the surviving Orks to him.
However, all their actions would be under 24-hour, non-stop surveillance. The Night Sentinels and Raiders would also remain in their workshop at all times.
If any problems arose, they would all be eliminated.
This group of Night Sentinels in their green Praetor Suits provided sufficient deterrence.
With the help of the Tech-Priests, the crew of the first Gorgon began to evacuate, and without any regard for the extent of damage to the warship, they began to dismantle its jump drive.
And the dismantled engine would be moved into the Stellar Pioneer, for this group of Ork Meks to conduct their trial operations.
If it really worked, then even if he had to abandon these three Gorgons, being able to bring the Stellar Pioneer back to Agathos was absolutely worth it.
After all, building more Gorgons just took some time, but this warship from the Golden Age was, for the current Lucan, irreplaceable.
However, after many attempts, KABOOM! still hadn't succeeded.
The number of Greenskins in his current klan was simply too small. The current situation was that no matter how much KABOOM! "finked," he couldn't gather enough "I reckon" power.
However, this problem didn't seem that difficult to solve. This planet was already overrun with Greenskins! If the Mekboyz here weren't enough, then he would just go and "recruit" them from other klans!
