Cherreads

Chapter 5 - 5. Final Confrontation.

It had been four days now. Every time I logged into Divine Descent, my routine stayed the same.

First stop, the village chief's house, where I'd find Mirella already geared up and waiting. From there, we'd use a pair of Teleportation Stones consumables only available to those with special permissions to reach the Cursed Canyon.

The grinding process was simple but efficient. Mirella would engage the feral dog-like monsters, whittling them down with precision and care until they were clinging to their last hit point. Then I'd finish the job with a single strike.

Because we didn't form a party, I received the full experience from each kill. It was an exploit, sure but a damn effective one.

Today, I finally hit Level 20.

Sitting on a flat rock near the edge of the canyon, I took out a bottle of water from my inventory and casually handed it to Mirella, who accepted it with a small smile.

She took a sip, then looked at me. "Are you really sure about this? Using something so rare on a woman like me? You've already given me more than enough… I'm already promoted to a Sword Sovereign (SS)"

I smirked inwardly. That's right. The water was just plain, ordinary water. But every time she drank it, I secretly used my Daily Upgrade on her profession.

Over the last three days, she had gone from Sword Veteran (B) to Sword Sovereign (SS) a feat that can be considered impossible this early in the game.

And she trusted me completely now.

Over these past few days, we'd grown close. She laughed more easily around me, smiled when I complimented her, and sometimes even rested her head against my shoulder after a long day of fighting.

I looked at her seriously. "You're not just any woman, Mirella. You're strong and beautiful. And honestly… I want you to spend your life with me."

She blinked, eyes wide because no men are interested in women with thick bodies like hers. Everyone likes young, slim, and petite girls. Yet here's a man who wants her.

"Instead of wasting your love on a man who doesn't see your worth who runs off to taverns to enjoy himself. You deserve someone who cherishes you."

The canyon wind howled around us. Her cheeks flushed slightly, eyes uncertain, but she didn't move away.

Mirella looked down at the half-empty bottle in her hand, her expression clouded with thoughts. The glow from her status screen briefly reflected in her eyes as she checked the update.

Her breath caught.

"Sword Empress (SSS)," she whispered. Then she looked at me, as if seeing me for the first time all over again.

I pressed on. "So… what do you think? You must've reached SSS profession now. You don't belong in this small place."

"If it's a yes from you," I said gently, "we can confront your husband. You deserve peace, not these half-truths and secrets. With your strength now, you don't belong in this tiny village, playing house with a man who abandoned your heart."

I took her hand, firm but respectful. "Come with me."

Her fingers curled slightly around mine, hesitating.

"I'll be honest with you, Mirella I'm a man. I won't pretend I'm immune to being swayed by other women… but I'll never forget you. Never push you aside. If you're mine, I'll make damn sure you feel seen, wanted, and respected. Always."

The silence between us was heavy. Then, slowly, she nodded.

"You're bold," she said quietly, a faint smirk tugging at her lips. "But… you've backed it up, every step of the way."

She stood up, sword slung across her back, eyes burning with newfound confidence. "Let's go see that bastard. I want my freedom and I want it standing next to the man who gave me strength."

I smirked hearing her words. " Let's go back for today, we need to meet your husband" I said.

Leaving Mirella behind at the house, I promised her I'd bring her husband back for a final confrontation. With that, I made my way toward the tavern once again.

As expected, the place was crowded with players loitering around the village chief, hoping for quest triggers or dialogue events. I waited patiently in line until it was finally my turn.

The village chief recognized me instantly. "Any progress?"

I nodded. "Everything's done. Mirella's ready to leave you and come with me. All that's left is for you to walk back with me. She just wants to confront you one last time, and after you apologize for your infidelity, she'll be the one to initiate the separation. No scandal, no drama a clean separation."

As I spoke, I casually opened the in-game screen recorder and took a few screenshots, capturing him with the other girls he was with for good measure as proofs to present Mirella with.

The chief raised an eyebrow, clearly surprised by how far things had gone. "Tch. So she finally found someone who actually gives her attention, huh? Well whatever. But I'll say you got some wild and weird tastes" He stood up, brushing off his coat. "Fine. Let's get this over with. Not like I expected her to stick around forever."

"Tch....! You are one to talk about weird tastes you asshole. Sick bastard. " I cursed in my mind and followed him back.

We silently walked back toward the chief's house. A few players glanced our way, confused some likely assumed this was part of a hidden quest. They weren't entirely wrong.

Mirella stood waiting at the entrance, arms crossed, her newly gained Sword Sovereign (SSS) profession aura hidden yet subtly pulsing around her. She looked powerful. Regal. Nothing like the tired wife she had been just days ago.

The chief paused when he saw her but stepped inside with me in silence. First thing I did was show the photos of village chief with other young girls to Mirella immediately.

Getting the que he started his act. "I get it," he said finally. "I cheated. Didn't think you'd find out, honestly. Figured you were too used to this life of yours."

"I was," Mirella replied calmly. "But not anymore. I've found someone who sees my value. Who treats me better."

Her eyes shifted to me for just a moment.

A notification popped up in my view.

Breaking up with the village chief smoothly without any problems. "Chief we are going to stay in this house for some more days" I said to which he just nodded before leaving the house.

Turning towards Mirella I asked "Mirella are you wholeheartedly willing to join me on my journey henceforth?" Gotta' make this more dramatic.

Mirella gave me a beautiful smile and said "Yes!"
