It was a peaceful night when Alex experienced the transformation for the first time. The moon was low in the sky, and it shed silver light onto the ground. Alex had enjoyed the full moon all his life, but tonight was different. He experienced an unusual tingling sensation all over his body. It was the night he transformed into a werewolf.
Initially, Alex didn't inform his partner, Mia. He did not want to hurt her feelings. Mia was always allergic to animals, and since the transformation into a werewolf, Alex had also started to become more of an animal. Whenever he went outdoors under the night sky, his senses grew acute and his physical form transformed. He was worried that if Mia discovered this, her allergies would worsen. He had noticed how she handled a mere dog or cat. Weeks went by, and the secret weighed down on Alex. He attempted to be normal as much as possible. He made dinner plans, watched movies, and went on long walks with Mia. However, each evening, the temptation to sprint into the woods grew stronger. His new nature was at odds with his love for Mia.
One night, Mia began to sneeze. "I don't know why my allergies are so terrible lately," she complained, blowing her nose. Alex's heart pounded. He wondered if she could feel the transformation in him. They were sitting on the couch, and he grasped her hand firmly, attempting to be comforting but concealing his fear.
"Maybe it's just the season," he said, forcing a smile. He wanted to comfort her, but deep down, he felt guilt for not telling her the truth.
As the full moon drew near, Alex resolved to stay away from the woods entirely. He locked the door and kept the windows shut. He believed he could master his new existence. But when the moon came up, the transformation was more difficult to resist. His body craved the wild, and that evening, he couldn't resist.
He snuck out into the evening. The run was exhilarating, but when he returned home, there was Mia, waiting and awake. Her eyes stretched in shock. "Where have you been? " she asked, concern pouring into her voice.
"I was just—" he began, but the words stuck in his throat. He retreated, attempting to keep the secret hidden, but the guilt churned like a tempest within him.
Mia let out another sneeze, this one even louder. "Alex, I feel terrible!" she exclaimed, and at that moment, he realized it was getting too difficult to keep the truth from her.
Taking a deep breath, he mustered up his strength. "I have to tell you something…"
The evening had just started, and nothing would ever be the same again.
