Chapter 4 - Chapter4: Training Begins

The field behind the school smells like grass, burnt wood, and broken promises.

Gojo stretches his arms like he ain't just the strongest sorcerer alive. "Alright, kids. I'd normally stick around to make sure no one loses a limb, but I got… grown-up business."

Panda: "Translation — he found a new dessert place and doesn't wanna share."

Gojo just grins. "Correct. Now play nice. New guy—don't die."

He's gone before I can curse him out.

I turn. Maki's already grabbed a bo staff. Panda's cracking his knuckles like he finna try MMA. Toge gives me a lazy wave and mutters, "Tuna mayo."

"What the hell that mean?" I ask.

"He said, 'Good luck not gettin' your ass beat,'" Panda interprets. "Rough translation."

Maki spins her staff. "We'll keep it simple. Dodge. Block. Try not to cry."

"I don't cry."

She smirks. "You will."

Fifteen minutes later…

I'm on my back, grass in my mouth, and I'm 78% sure I dislocated my pride.

Maki offers me a hand. I take it. She pulls me up, only to sweep my legs and drop me again.

Panda cackles. "You fall pretty, I'll give you that."

"Y'all got a weird definition of training," I groan.

"You wanna train or get babied?" Maki says, arms crossed.

I roll over and sit up. "I want a sandwich."

Toge sits down next to me and offers a rice ball.

"...This tuna?"

He nods.

"Respect."

We sit like that for a minute. Just breathin'. Just existin'.

It's quiet. Not the creepy cursed spirit quiet. Just… peace.

Panda throws a stick and shouts, "FETCH!" — and when I don't move, he shrugs. "Thought it was worth a shot."

Later, after the sun starts settin' soft across the trees…

We're all kinda just layin' in the grass now. Sweaty, bruised, alive.

Maki's staff is stuck in the dirt like a warning sign. Panda's belly is rising and fallin' — dude actually sleeps like a real panda. Toge's playing with a leaf like it's the most fascinating thing in the world.

I glance up at the clouds, feel the cursed energy still hummin' under my skin.

"I didn't think I'd make it through today," I admit.

Maki speaks without lookin' at me. "Nobody does. Not the first time."

Silence again.

Then Panda, eyes still closed, mutters: "But you ain't dead yet. So that's somethin'."

I ain't dead yet.

And for the first time since I got dropped into this cursed world…

That feels like a win.
