Chapter 4 - The Child Is Gone

The bodyguards exchanged surprised glances. Their mistress had always been gentle, but now her presence carried the authority of a leader.

Then more than ten black Lincolns roared up to the hospital entrance. The imposing bodyguards stepped out, lined up, and bowed respectfully to Qin Cha.

"Welcome back, Miss Qin!"

A tall figure stepped out of the middle car, dressed in a sharp navy blue suit that screamed luxury and class. His good looks instantly drew everyone's attention.

When he saw Qin Cha, his eyes turned slightly red. He walked straight over and hugged her tightly.

"You finally came home!"

"Second Brother," Qin Cha's nose stung with emotion.

"What happened here?" Qin Mo asked, frowning as he looked at her dirt-stained clothes.

Qin Cha gave a small smile and tried to reassure him. "It's nothing. We'll talk once we get home."

Qin Mo's face darkened. Without even glancing at the bodyguards around them, he pulled Qin Cha with him and headed to the car.

The bodyguards finally reacted and rushed to stop him, but Qin Mo rolled up his sleeves and knocked them down with ease.

By the time Shang Jue and Old Lady Shang got out of the car, they saw a man holding Qin Cha as she got into another car. Their clothes were close, their posture intimate.

Shang Jue's eyes were filled with anger as he stared at the hand resting on Qin Cha's shoulder.

"This slut! No wonder she's rushing to get a divorce. Turns out she already found a new man and wants to run off with him, taking our Shang family's bloodline with her!" Old Lady Shang shouted, furious and humiliated.

Inside the car, Qin Cha looked out the window and locked eyes with Shang Jue.

His stare was sharp like a blade, stabbing right into her.

Did he really think she cheated on him?

Qin Cha suddenly laughed. If he wanted to think that, fine. They both betrayed each other. What right did he have to point fingers?

The car had just started when Qin Cha said, "Wait a second."

She turned to Qin Mo. "Brother, my wallet."

Qin Mo didn't ask questions. He handed it to her right away.

Qin Cha rolled down the window and raised her voice. "Mr. Shang, can you come over here for a second?"

Old Lady Shang clenched her teeth and grabbed Shang Jue's arm. "Don't go! Does he think we're dogs he can call and dismiss whenever he wants?"

Shang Jue's gaze turned ice-cold as he pushed her hand away and walked toward the car.

Standing by the window, he looked past Qin Mo and spoke coldly. "Qin Cha, come back with me now and I won't look into anything else."

His so-called generosity only made Qin Cha laugh inside.

She looked him straight in the eye and said firmly, "Mr. Shang, just to remind you—we're already divorced. So the question of whether I'll go back with you doesn't even exist. And about you 'not pursuing anything,' are you talking about how Shen Mingyue fell down the stairs and lost her child? Sorry, but I'm going to investigate that properly. Whether I pushed her or she was trying to frame me—we'll find out."

Their eyes met. His glass-like eyes were beautiful but cold. Familiar, yet suddenly like a stranger.

Qin Cha lowered her head and opened the wallet. She took out all the cash inside and handed it out the window.

"That night three years ago, I mistook Mr. Shang for someone else. Everything after that was mutual. This is compensation for that night." She glanced at the thick stack of cash. "This should be enough to cover what you were worth back then."

They had slept together countless times, so how much could that one night really matter?

Gasps echoed from the people around them.

What did they just hear?

Mrs. Qian, formerly known as Mrs. Shang, treated Mr. Shang like a gigolo back then?

Shang's lips curled into a cold smile. His expression turned chilling.

"The price for one night?"

She used another man's money to pay for what she called a night with a gigolo?

Qin Cha tilted her head slightly.

"Is it not enough?"

She lowered her head and dug through her wallet, pulling out three one-yuan coins.

"Here, take it all."

Shang didn't move. His eyes were sharp, as if he wanted to tear her apart.

When he still didn't react, Qin Cha leaned forward and stuffed the money into the pocket of his suit.

Shang raised his hand to grab her wrist, but she dodged him swiftly.

As the car window rolled up, she spoke coldly,

"From now on, we have nothing to do with each other."

One by one, the cars drove off, leaving Shang standing there without moving.

The bulging pocket of his black suit silently told the story of what had just happened.

Li, his assistant, lowered his eyes, heart full of conflict.

Did Madam recover her memory based on what she just said?

Who was that man earlier? Could he be Madam's old lover or ex-husband?

Shang's fierce gaze swept over instantly.

Li understood right away and quickly responded,

"I'll go check right now!"

Madam Shang glared and snapped,

"Hurry up and find out! Investigate how she got involved with that man. Also, make sure the child in her belly isn't a Shang!"

Li's expression froze. He interrupted carefully,

"The child is already gone."

Madam Shang's face changed dramatically.

"What did you say?"

"The doctor said Miss Qin was only a month pregnant, and the embryo hadn't stabilized yet. Because of the physical impact and emotional stress, she had a miscarriage," Li explained as he took a medical report out of his bag and handed it to her.

Madam Shang gripped her cane tightly. Her vision went black, and she fainted on the spot.

The child was gone.

It had been knocked out by her cane.

Amidst the chaos, Shang stood still. She didn't speak, just stared at the report in her hand. But in her mind, she kept seeing Qin Cha's cold, distant eyes.

Without even bothering to wipe away the bloodstains, she had already wanted to run far, far away from him.
