Leorio doesn't understand why Loki says he's not participating in the Hunter Exam.
"If you have any difficulties, please tell us. We'll help you, Loki," Kurapika says, concerned. She's grateful for Loki's help.
Gon and Killua know the truth but decide not to tell Leorio and Kurapika. They'll keep it secret until they all become Hunters.
Loki says, "Don't worry. My trial is different. Good luck!"
Confused, Kurapika and Leorio leave the ship as the trial begins. The ship departs. After one last look, Loki returns to his room.
Satotz and Menchi find him.
"The Chairman wants you, kid," Menchi says bossily.
Satotz smiles. "Ignore her. You're a Hunter now. We're equals."
They arrive at Netero's room. A glass of water with a leaf floats on top. Loki slaps his forehead. He should have done a Water Divination to check his Nen type.
"Come in, sit," Netero says.
A small table sits in the center of the room, with cushions on opposite sides. Netero sits cross-legged. Loki sits opposite him.
Netero is much older than Loki, so Loki continues to call him Chairman. Loki thinks it's good to have Netero as a teacher. Even though Loki surpasses him in some ways, learning Nen from Netero is beneficial.
"Loki, your Nen has awakened, but Nen training isn't quick."
Netero has never seen such a talented individual. Because of Loki's immense talent, Netero decided to take him as a student. First, Loki's talent guarantees he'll become a top Nen user. Second, if he goes astray, he'll become a terrifying enemy. Personal guidance is necessary.
"Your Nen has awakened. Let's test your type."
Netero shows a board with the six Nen types: Enhancement, Transmutation, Conjuration, Emission, Manipulation, and Specialization. A hexagon with each type at a corner.
Netero explains that everyone has a primary type, which they can use at 100% power. Adjacent types are 75%, the next 60%, and opposite types 40%. Specialization is unique and doesn't fit into this system.
"Test your type. Place your hands on either side of the glass and release your Nen."
Water spills out: Enhancement.
Water's taste changes: Transmutation.
Leaf moves: Manipulation.
Water changes color: Emission.
Crystals appear in the water: Conjuration.
Any other change: Specialization.
Netero strokes his beard. "You're likely Conjuration or Manipulation."
Loki hasn't started yet, but Netero makes a guess.
"Why? How did you know?"
"Just a feeling," Netero says.
This is a strong reason. Netero has faced countless opponents and can likely guess their type just by looking.
Hummm…
A faint Nen aura emanates from Loki. The water changes color, starting with red, then blue, becoming multicolored. The leaf moves. This is undoubtedly Specialization.
Netero looks at the multicolored water. "Specialization! I was wrong."
Netero's expression changes. Loki also notices. Specialization aligns with Loki's preference, having seen the abilities of Kurapika, Illumi, Pitou, and the Chimera Ant King.
"Chairman, is Specialization bad?" Loki asks. He thinks it should be strong.
"Specialization isn't bad, but I'd prefer you were Manipulation or Conjuration."
Netero writes '100%' next to Specialization and 'Unknown' next to the other five types. Specialization users are strong, but unlike other types, they don't know the power of their other types. Other types can be trained, but not Specialization. Specialization is innate. If Loki's Specialization allows him to use Manipulation at 200%, and other types at 10% or 20%, he can use those abilities without training.
"Specialization users can't judge their other types' power, but the Water Divination might show some clues." Looking at the multicolored water, "You have strong talent in Emission and Manipulation!" (Personal setting.)
"Rest, Loki. We'll start your Nen training later. You must be eager!" Netero says.
Though Loki's type isn't what he expected, the Water Divination shows talent in Manipulation and Emission. He might be able to use both at over 100%. The other types are unknown, but it's still acceptable.
Loki nods and leaves. Outside Netero's room, he looks at his Nen. "Specialization! Strong talent in Emission and Manipulation."
He thinks about Yō Asakura's power. Combining Emission and Manipulation, he thinks of Yō's spirit, the Fire Spirit. He didn't get it during extraction. He thought it was an item, not a person's ability. Getting it again is unlikely. But he can create a Fire Spirit using his Nen!
He won't decide yet. He needs to learn basic Nen techniques before developing his Nen ability.
Netero examines the water after Loki leaves. He picks up the leaf.
"A Specialization user. Troublesome!"
A green figure enters.
"Chairman, we're arriving. Prepare to disembark."
It's the Bean-Faced Man. Some suspect he's from the Dark Continent.
Seeing Netero still, he asks, "Chairman, what are you doing?"
He sees the multicolored water. He's surprised. "Chairman, you only drink tea! Why are you drinking this?"
He takes a sip. Netero looks up, seeing the Bean-Faced Man drinking the water from Loki's Water Divination.
The Beans face changes. "Chairman, this is delicious! Sweet, with a faint fragrance! No wonder you stopped drinking tea."
