Chapter 4 - Voice In My Head

I was settling down into my peaceful life as a princess. It was easy. I got to read as much as I wanted, play, draw, and much more. I gained a friend, one of the servant girls, when I was about 6 years old. My father was disapproving at first, but as king, he had to take many business trips. The trips would stretch to months at times, so what he didnt know wouldn't hurt him. Of course, my mother noticed me sneaking away from the dinner table with bits of food and my secret meetings with this girl. She was cute. The little sister I always wanted. She had light candy brown hair, honey brown eyes, and tanned skin. She looked exactly how I had wanted to look as a kid. She had the sweetest smile and was the most cheerful person id ever met, despite being in the role of servant. My father soon noticed I had refused to give up this friend, Mindy, and just surrendered to my stubbornness.

Mindy and I did everything together. By the time we were 8, my parents decided they might as well give in completely and just let Mindy be my maid. I didnt tell them, but i always helped Mindy with her chores, never treating her like a maid. I would want help too, so why shouldn't I help her? Besides, we always had wonderful conversations while we worked. As the days passed I learned a lot about the culture of this world. Money worked different here, meaning... there was no money. You simply traded what you had for what you need. You're growing crops? We will trade grain for meat. You made a necklace, I will trade that for a dress I made. It was simply brilliant. You do what you're good at, and are paid for what you want. There of course are special circumstances for the royal family and their staff. The royal family's wealth is their protection. Mindy didn't know too much about this as she was still only 8 years old and born in a long line of servants. I shrugged it off, assuming I still had 10 more years before having to figure it out. Little did I know, the answer would be revealed much sooner than that.

I woke up in my bed, elegant curtains shielding my eyes from the blinding sun. I stretched and slowly sat up as I heard Mindy's voice. "Good morning, Princess Sienna. I have brought breakfast for you, may I enter?" I smiled at my good friend's words. How cute, acting like a proper servant by using my official title. "Enter" I covered myself in my robe as Mindy walked in with a tray of food. For some reason I couldn't understand, this world was obsessed with meat. Breakfast, for example, was what looked like steak and eggs, but it tasted much better than in my previous world. Today however, there was a small gift box on my tray. I looked at Mindy in curiosity as I sat at my table. She gently picked up a comb and started untangling my long red and curly hair as I ate. I smirked slightly as I continued to swallow piece after piece of the steak. After I was almost done eating Mindy finally couldn't take it anymore. "OH for goodness sake! I know you see the box, why do you torture me so!" I burst out laughing and turn to face her, I was wondering how long it would take before she broke. "Oh, a box? I hadn't noticed" I replied with a cheeky grin. She huffed softly before moving and placing the box in my hands. I inspected it closely and smiled. It was black and red with golden decals all along it, the royal colors. I was about to open it before getting an idea, the devious smirk appearing only in my mind. "What a lovely box. Such a good present, thank you" She grumbled and grabbed for the box. "Well, if you insist on being so difficult, I should just take the gift back!" Before she could grab the box, I pulled away and laughed. I quickly opened it and pulled out my gift. My demeanor quickly changed from playful to happy. I turned to look up at her and pulled her into a hug. "Thank you, its gorgeous!" It was a necklace. It was made of chain and stone. Moonstone to be exact. In this world, the people who have it tend to be strong and live their lives as they please. This particular moonstone was carved into the shape of a wolf. "Im glad you like it! Happy 10th birthday Sienna!" I held the necklace up to her and smiled. "Help me?" She smiled and quickly helped me put it around my neck. The gorgeous stone having a somewhat blue glow to it, complimenting my skin tone perfectly. With that, Mindy quickly darted off in excitement to finish her chores so she could come back and talk. I laughed before finishing my breakfast and then washed up for the day. I went to my closet and went through my clothes. After a short debate, I decided to go with a pale blue dress to compliment my new necklace. It was exquisite yet simple. Breathable fabric and lightweight so I could still run around as much as I wanted. I then put my hair up into a side braid, two strands of hair framing my face. As I looked in the mirror I smiled at my appearance and smoothed my dress. "Pretty! You're so pretty!" I heard a voice squeal in my mind. What the fuck?! Am I going crazy? I looked around just in case, however, I didnt see anyone around. Shit, I am going crazy. At that thought, the voice spoke again. "You're not going crazy, im your wolf. Sierra. I feel like I waited for eternity to meet you! This is so exciting!" I froze... my wolf? Woah, i read about this in novels and stories in my old life, but this was news to me... so I was reincarnated into a shifter world? I swear, of all places! "Why do you seem so upset? You don't want a wolf?" Sierra's voice sounded again, a tone of hurt embedded within. "No, no, I do want a wolf, im just surprised... I read somewhere that you only get your wolf at the age of 18. Im only 10, how are you here?" I suddenly looked down as the moonstone started to glow and suddenly I could envision Sierra as an actual person standing next to me in a beautiful open field. I looked around in awe. "What is this place? What's going on?" Sierra smiled at me and giggled "you're a werewolf silly!"
