Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

The door creaked open, and a figure slipped inside. They were dressed in dark clothing, their face obscured by a hoodie. I felt a surge of fear, unsure of who this person was or what they wanted.

The figure moved cautiously, their eyes scanning the room as if searching for something or someone. When their gaze landed on me, they froze, their eyes narrowing slightly.

I stood still, my heart pounding in my chest. Who was this person? And what did they want?

The figure took a step forward, their movements fluid and silent. As they approached me, I saw that it was a woman, her features delicate and pale.

She pushed back her hood, revealing a mop of dark hair and piercing green eyes. "Ava," she whispered, her voice barely audible.

I felt a jolt of surprise. How did she know my name?

The woman glanced around the room, her eyes lingering on the door. "We don't have much time," she said, her voice urgent. "My name is Sophia. I'm here to warn you."

I felt a sense of confusion. Warn me about what?

Sophia's eyes locked onto mine, her gaze intense. "Julian's not what you think he is," she said, her voice low. "He's involved in something dark, something that could destroy you."

I felt a surge of skepticism. What was Sophia talking about? Julian was my husband, after all. He was a Blackwood, a member of a powerful and respected family.

But Sophia's words sparked a memory. The dinner party, Julian's associates, the way they looked at me with a mixture of curiosity and suspicion. There was more to Julian's world than met the eye.

Sophia took another step closer, her voice dropping to a whisper. "You need to be careful, Ava. Julian's family is not what it seems. They're involved in dark magic, in rituals and sacrifices. And Julian's right in the thick of it."

I felt a chill run down my spine. Dark magic? Rituals and sacrifices? It sounded like something out of a horror movie.

But Sophia's words were laced with conviction, with a sense of urgency that made me believe her. I thought back to the strange symbols I'd seen in the mansion, the way Julian's eyes seemed to gleam in the dark.

Sophia's eyes locked onto mine, her gaze intense. "You need to get out of here, Ava. You need to leave Julian and the Blackwoods behind. They're not safe."

I felt a surge of fear, unsure of what to do. Part of me wanted to believe Sophia, to trust her and follow her advice. But another part of me was loyal to Julian, to the marriage we'd contracted.

As I hesitated, Sophia's eyes flashed with frustration. "You don't understand, Ava. You're in grave danger. Julian's family will stop at nothing to keep their secrets safe."

Suddenly, a noise echoed from the hallway, the sound of footsteps approaching. Sophia's eyes snapped towards the door, her face pale.

"It's him," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "I have to go."

With that, Sophia turned and fled, disappearing into the shadows like a ghost. I stood there, frozen in shock, unsure of what to do next.

The door creaked open, and Julian stood in the doorway, his eyes scanning the room. "Ava?" he said, his voice low. "What's going on?"

I felt a surge of fear, unsure of how to respond. Had Julian seen Sophia? Did he know what she'd said?

I forced a smile, trying to play it cool. "Nothing," I said, my voice even. "I was just... looking for a book."

Julian's eyes narrowed slightly, but he didn't push the issue. "Let's go to bed," he said, his voice low. "It's late."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief. Maybe I'd made it out of this situation unscathed. But as I followed Julian out of the room, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Sophia's words had planted a seed of doubt in my mind. What secrets was Julian hiding? And what lay ahead for us?

As the door creaked open, I felt a surge of fear. Who was it? And what did they want? The figure slipped inside, their eyes scanning the room before landing on me.

It was a woman, tall and slender, with piercing green eyes. She was beautiful, but there was something about her that seemed... off.

"Ava," she said, her voice low and husky. "I've been waiting for you."

I felt a sense of confusion. Who was this woman? And how did she know my name?

"Who are you?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady.

The woman smiled, her lips curling up in a sly smile. "My name is Sophia," she said. "And I'm here to warn you."

I felt a sense of curiosity, despite my fear. "Warn me about what?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.

Sophia's gaze locked onto mine, her eyes intense. "Julian's not what you think he is," she said, her voice low. "He's not the man you think you're marrying."

I felt a surge of defensiveness, despite my doubts about Julian. "What do you mean?" I asked, my voice firm.

Sophia took a step closer, her eyes glinting in the dim light. "He's involved in things you don't understand," she said, her voice barely above a whisper. "Things that could get you hurt."

I felt a sense of unease, despite my determination to be strong. What was Sophia talking about? And why was she warning me?

As I stood there, frozen in uncertainty, Sophia turned to leave. "Be careful, Ava," she said, her voice low. "You're in danger."

And with that, she was gone, leaving me standing alone in the study, my mind reeling with questions.

I stood there for a long time, trying to process what Sophia had said. Was she telling the truth? And what did she mean by "things you don't understand"?

As I stood there, lost in thought, I heard the door open behind me. I turned to see Julian standing in the doorway, his eyes fixed on me.

"What's wrong?" he asked, his voice low and concerned.

I hesitated, unsure of what to say. Should I tell him about Sophia's warning? Or should I keep it to myself?

"I was just... thinking," I said finally, trying to sound nonchalant.

Julian's gaze lingered on mine, and for a moment, I thought I saw a glimmer of suspicion. But then, his expression smoothed out, and he walked over to me.

"Come," he said, his voice even. "Let's go to bed. It's been a long day."

I nodded, feeling a sense of relief. Maybe tomorrow would bring some answers. Maybe tomorrow would bring some clarity.

As we walked out of the study, I couldn't shake off the feeling that Sophia's warning was just the beginning of a long and treacherous journey. And I wasn't sure if I was ready.
