ALEXANDER'S POV
Shock registered on Annalyn's face.
Sophie and Kathryn were also staring at me with mouth agape. I flashed Anna a smile and helped her to a chair, for fear of having her fall down due to the shock.
Sophie dropped to her seat, still staring at me with shock.
Finally, Sophie broke the silence, pointing a finger at Aidan. "You're Anna's husband?"
I nodded.
"How? How did she even know you?" Sophie was on the verge of crying. Her mother nudged her to compose herself.
"Mom, he's….Alex? He's…Anna's husband?"
Her mother grabbed her and with a smile, excused herself as she dragged Sophie away.
As soon as they were out of sight, Annalyn turned to me with her brows furrowed in both anger and confusion.
"How is your head? Do you still feel any pain?" I asked and touched her bandaged forehead.
"Can you explain what just happened?" She demanded with a serious expression.
A pleat of hair fell over her face and I tucked it behind her ear as I leaned in. "Can we talk about this later?"
She didn't like she was going to be patient for us to get home first before I answer her questions so I shot to my feet instantly. "I need to use the restroom, could you direct me?"
She was silent for a moment, before pointing to a direction. "First door on your right."
I nodded and trotted away from the dining area. I let my eyes scan the entire house, looking for where the location of cameras, when a voice grabbed my attention.
"Mom, he's Alex. How can Anna be married to Alex of all people? This must be a joke. Alex is my man. She knew I'd always had a huge crush on him. Did she do this to get back at me for sleeping with Warren?"
"Calm down." Her mother's tone was calm. "Are you sure he's the Alexander Klein we're all talking about?"
Silence.
"Then why isn't it out that he was married? He was clearly the most eligible bachelor in NY up to last month. If they were indeed married, then we would have heard that on the news already, don't you think?"
Silence.
"Yes, yes, yes!" Sophie chanted with hope and I smiled.
I turned away to leave when her voice stopped me again. "Mom, we really need to get rid of her. She's becoming too much of a thorn in my flesh. Why can't she just die?"
Her mother shushed her up and I walked away.
All I wanted to do was find at least one camera around the house that I can use to get the evidence of them drugging Annalyn.
Even if she didn't want them to know yet, the only help I could do for her was to get the evidence and whenever she needed them, they would be easily accessible for her.
When I was back into the dinning room, Annalyn was no longer there. I furrowed my brows and looked away.
Even the bodyguard was gone.
I picked up my phone from the table and walked out. Anna's car was about to move when I called out. "Anna?!"
The bodyguard stopped the car abruptly, stepped out and bowed at me. "Ma'am said she needed to go to the house urgently."
I turned to Anna who wasn't sparing me a glance.
Really?
I turned around and poked my head into the car window where she was sitting. "All you had to do was pretend for an hour and you couldn't even do that. What then is the essence of this dinner?"
"Don't tell me what to do and what not to do, Aidan…oh, sorry Alex. You have no idea how embarrassed I was, right? What if Sophie had seen the shock on my face? How could you not tell me? I was married to you and I had to learn from the two people who hated me the most that the man I was married to wasn't who I thought he was? You're a fucking billionaire, Aidan!" She slammed a phone in my face.
I moved away to see the screen of her phone showcasing my picture and every detail about me.
"Alexander Aidan Klein, CEO of Klein Energy, CEO of Klein Security Agency, CEO of Kelvin Corporations and CEO of…"
She dropped the phone from my face.
"Gosh, what a pretender!"
I smiled. "Anna, don't be so quick to judge me, my darling. Will you at least give me a second to explain myself?"
She was silently watching me with her chest heaving up and down. She was obviously still mad at me.
"Alex?!" Someone called from the door and I leaned upright to see Kathryn and Sophie at the door. "You two are leaving already?"
I nodded with my signature smile. "My wife is a little exhausted. We have to head home now, we're so sorry."
"Oh no!" She waved her hands in the air. "It's totally fine. I hope you'll visit us soon, right?"
"Sure. Anna and I will come visiting soon."
She didn't look pleased at the mention of Anna and I.
I waved my hand. "Goodbye, Mrs. Lorenzo."
"Bye, Alex." She waved back. Sophie was behind her without a word. She looked like someone on the verge of tears.
I turned over to the driver's seat, signaled to the bodyguard to come in my car. He bowed and left. I jumped into the driver's seat next to Anna who was still ignoring me.
I ignited the car engine and drove away from Lorenzo's mansion.
Silence filled the air until we were almost at home. I wanted to tell her that now that my true identity was out in the open, I have a different house where we would be staying henceforth.
"Aidan, you're really Alex?" She asked, her tone slightly still in disbelief.
"Why? Why didn't you tell me?"
"You never asked."
"You told me you were Aidan, if you had said you were Alex Klein, I could have figured it out."
"Well," I shrugged indifferently. "Technically, I didn't lie about my name. I just didn't tell you my full name. My name is Alexander and my middle name is Aidan. I told you I was Aidan Klein. That was enough to make you figure it out if truly you were supposed to figure out who I was."
She shut her eyes. I wanted to ask if she was fine.
Her head was still in the bandage.
Then I remembered what Sophie and her mother were planning earlier.
"You're going with me to my company tomorrow morning."
It took a while for her to snap her head towards me. "What? What for?"
"I'm going to reveal my marriage to the public too, tomorrow. Come with the marriage certificate and be prepared to meet the Kleins."
She shook her head.
"From tomorrow henceforth, you will be introduced to the world as the wife of Alexander Aidan Klein and your name will change to Annalyn Klein!"
Her mouth dropped.
