Chapter 7 - And now im famous?

The training exercises were intense, but surprisingly, Aresando found himself thriving in the midst of it all. As the instructor barked orders, Aresando responded swiftly, his body moving with an unexpected fluidity. He darted between obstacles, performing feats of agility that even the more seasoned students struggled to execute. He was not only fast but also precise, every movement seeming to flow into the next without hesitation.

The magical component of the drills came easily as well. As the instructor demonstrated a series of elemental manipulations—fire, wind, and earth—Aresando instinctively mirrored the motions, his hands tracing patterns in the air that summoned bursts of wind or sparks of flame. It felt natural, like an extension of himself.

The other students watched in awe as he seemed to grasp the exercises with minimal effort, especially as he effortlessly maintained control over the fire he summoned, keeping the flames contained and precise without allowing them to spiral out of control. Jade, standing off to the side, couldn't help but notice how everyone was staring at him in awe.

"You're doing great," she called out from the sidelines, a hint of pride in her voice.

Aresando flashed her a grin. "Told you I'd figure it out."

The instructor, who had been closely observing the students' progress, nodded approvingly. "Impressive," he said to Aresando. "It's rare to see such control from someone who's never been formally trained. Keep this up, and you might just be ready for advanced techniques sooner than we expected."

Aresando could barely contain his excitement, but he knew it was important not to get ahead of himself. "Thanks," he said, trying to maintain some humility despite the compliment.

The rest of the session went by in a blur of drills, each more challenging than the last. But Aresando continued to perform admirably, his body and magic working in tandem, as though they had always been connected. The feeling of the power inside him—fueled by his determination and his growing bond with Jade—pushed him to his limits. By the end of the day, he was exhausted but satisfied with his performance.

After the session, Aresando and Jade walked together, their boots echoing on the stone paths that led back to the dormitory. Students streamed past them, chatting excitedly about the day's training.

"That wasn't so bad," Aresando said, wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead. "I expected to be a lot worse."

"You're a natural," Jade said with a teasing smile. "I've never seen anyone pick up on magic so quickly. If you keep this up, you might even outrank some of the older students."

Aresando grinned. "Who knows? Maybe I'll be the one teaching them someday."

Jade laughed, but her eyes softened. "Just don't get too cocky. You still have a lot to learn."

As they continued walking, a group of girls approached them. Aresando noticed them immediately—three girls, all dressed in the academy's standard uniforms, their eyes bright with interest. They each seemed to be eyeing Aresando in that way that made it clear they had more than just casual conversation in mind.

"Hey, Aresando, right?" one of the girls, a tall redhead, called out. She gave him a playful smile, her posture exuding confidence. "We saw you in training earlier. You were amazing."

Another girl, a short brunette with freckles, added, "Yeah, we could barely keep up with you. You've got some serious talent."

Aresando blinked, caught off guard by the sudden attention. He hadn't been expecting this. "Uh, thanks," he said awkwardly, rubbing the back of his neck.

The third girl, a platinum blonde with piercing blue eyes, stepped forward and smiled seductively. "I think you'd make a great sparring partner," she said, her tone low and inviting. "Maybe we can... team up sometime?"

Jade, who had been walking beside him, immediately tensed, her tail flicking nervously behind her. Her golden eyes narrowed slightly, and she instinctively moved a little closer to Aresando.

Aresando, sensing the tension in the air, turned to look at Jade. Her expression was unreadable, but there was a clear protectiveness in her posture. He glanced back at the girls, who seemed to be growing more insistent.

"We could really use someone like you on our team," the redhead continued, her eyes lingering on Aresando with more interest than he was entirely comfortable with.

Aresando felt the weight of the situation. He wasn't sure how to navigate this—he wasn't used to being the center of attention like this, especially with Jade standing right there. He looked at Jade, noticing the way she was watching the girls with an intensity that was almost palpable.

He cleared his throat, trying to be polite. "I appreciate the offer, but I'm already... kind of busy with Jade."

The girls paused for a moment, their smiles faltering slightly as they looked between Aresando and Jade. It was clear they hadn't expected this response, but the redhead quickly recovered, giving Jade a cold smile.

"Well, that's a shame," she said with a shrug. "We were just trying to be friendly."

"Uh-huh," Jade replied, her tone icy. "And I'm sure you are. But Aresando doesn't need any extra distractions."

The three girls exchanged looks, their expressions hardening for a brief moment before the redhead nodded curtly. "Alright, we get it. Don't say we didn't offer."

With that, the group of girls turned and walked off, leaving Aresando standing there, still processing what had just happened.

Jade was quiet for a moment, her body still tense. Aresando turned to face her, raising an eyebrow. "You don't like them, do you?"

Jade's expression softened slightly, but there was still a hint of protectiveness in her eyes. "It's not that. It's just..." She hesitated. "You're mine, Aresando. And I won't let anyone forget that."

He felt a strange warmth at her words, mixed with a bit of confusion. He didn't entirely understand what this connection between them meant yet, but the intensity with which Jade spoke made him realize that this wasn't something simple. He nodded slowly, trying to reassure her.

"I get it, Jade. Thanks... for looking out for me."

Her gaze softened, and her tail flicked behind her in a sign of contentment. "Always."

As they made their way back to the dormitory, the air between them was still charged with an unspoken tension, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Jade walked close beside Aresando, her presence almost protective, like an invisible shield wrapped around him. He could tell she was still processing the encounter with the girls, though she didn't say anything more about it.

Aresando, on the other hand, found himself mulling over the situation. He had never experienced anything like this before, and the possessiveness Jade displayed caught him off guard. It was a strange feeling—comfort mixed with uncertainty. He wasn't sure how to interpret it, but one thing was clear: Jade cared about him in a way that was deeper than just companionship.

When they finally reached their dorm room, Aresando was ready to collapse into bed. Training had been exhausting, and the day had been packed with too many new experiences. But as he walked inside, something felt different. The atmosphere was heavier, charged with an energy that wasn't there before. Jade immediately moved to the window and peered out, her ears twitching as she listened to the sounds outside.

"What's wrong?" Aresando asked, feeling the weight of her sudden shift in focus.

Jade turned to him, her golden eyes intense. "Something's happening. The academy's magic is unstable tonight. I can feel it in the air."

Aresando furrowed his brow. "What do you mean, unstable?"

"I don't know. It's like the walls themselves are holding their breath. Something is coming. And I don't think it's good." Her tail flicked nervously behind her.

Just then, a loud crash echoed through the building, followed by the unmistakable sound of shouting. It came from the direction of the training halls.

"Looks like we're about to find out," Aresando said, already moving toward the door. He didn't even have to look at Jade to know she was right behind him. They both rushed out of the room and down the hall, their footsteps quick and purposeful.

As they reached the training hall, the sight that greeted them was nothing short of chaos.

The room was in shambles, magical barriers crackling with unstable energy, and half the students scattered, their faces pale with fear. At the center of the room stood a figure cloaked in darkness, their hands crackling with raw magical power. It was unmistakable—this wasn't a student. This was someone who had control over forces that even the strongest mages couldn't handle.

Aresando's heart pounded in his chest as he instinctively reached for the coin in his pocket. He could feel its energy pulsing, as though it were alive. Jade's eyes narrowed, her wolf ears twitching as she analyzed the situation.

"That's not just some rogue mage," Jade murmured. "It's a sorcerer, and worse—it looks like they're trying to destabilize the magical wards around the academy."

Aresando felt a sudden surge of power—his instincts screaming at him to act. Without thinking, he pulled the coin out of his pocket, and it flared with energy. Before he could fully comprehend what he was doing, he felt his body move, propelled by an unseen force.

He lunged toward the sorcerer, his hands raised as the coin pulsed again. The ground beneath him cracked as he shot forward, his body more agile than he thought possible. He was too fast for the sorcerer to react in time, and with a single, fluid motion, Aresando slammed his palm into the sorcerer's chest.

The energy from the coin exploded outward, a shockwave of raw magical force that sent the sorcerer flying back. The walls of the training hall shook with the force of the blast, but Aresando stood his ground, chest heaving with exertion.

Jade appeared at his side, her shield up just in time to block a retaliatory strike of dark magic that would have consumed them both. The sorcerer snarled, struggling to get back to their feet. "You don't understand," they hissed, their voice filled with malice. "You're all just pawns in the grand scheme. This academy will fall, and when it does, you'll see just how powerless you truly are."

Aresando clenched his fists, ready for another strike. "I don't care about your plan," he said, voice steady. "I'm not going to let you destroy this place—or anyone here."

Jade's golden eyes flicked to him, a moment of silent understanding passing between them. Then, in a blur of movement, she charged forward, her wolf-like agility allowing her to close the distance in an instant. With a sharp movement, she slashed at the sorcerer, her claws glowing with ethereal light.

But the sorcerer was fast, too. They blocked Jade's attack, then unleashed a burst of energy, sending both of them tumbling back. Aresando watched, heart in his throat, but Jade was already back on her feet, her eyes flashing with determination.

She glanced at him. "It's going to take more than just brute force."

Aresando nodded, understanding the gravity of the situation. His mind raced, trying to figure out how he could tap into his newfound abilities. The coin was more than just an object; it was a source of immense power, and it was bound to him. But how could he control it fully?

He focused, closing his eyes for a moment. The coin in his hand flared brightly, and for the first time, Aresando felt the energy inside it synchronize with his own. It wasn't just about the magic—it was about a connection, a bond that went beyond just the physical.

Suddenly, the coin pulsed with an intensity that seemed to fill the entire room. Aresando's eyes snapped open, and he held his hand forward, a commanding gesture that sent a blast of energy flying toward the sorcerer. The air around them crackled as the energy formed into a concentrated beam, stronger and more controlled than before.

The sorcerer didn't have time to react. The beam hit them directly in the chest, sending them crashing into the wall with enough force to shatter the stone.

The room fell silent.

Aresando stood there, breathing heavily, his hand still outstretched. Jade, eyes wide in surprise, glanced at him. "You did it."

He looked down at his hand, the coin still pulsing with residual energy. "I think... I think I'm starting to understand it."

The sorcerer groaned, struggling to rise, but there was no more fight left in them. A few academy guards rushed into the room, their wands raised. They quickly restrained the sorcerer, binding them with magical restraints.

Aresando exhaled slowly, feeling the tension leave his body. He had just barely managed to tap into the power that had been dormant inside him. And for a moment, he felt an overwhelming sense of control—like he had finally taken his first step toward mastering the forces that were so intricately tied to his destiny.

Jade walked over to him, a soft smile on her face. "See? I told you you were special."

Aresando gave her a wry smile. "Yeah, well... guess I'm starting to believe it now."

And with that, they both turned to face the future, knowing that whatever challenges awaited them, they wouldn't face them alone.
