Chapter 7 - CHAPTER 7

The live stream chat was buzzing:

[So, Aomine Daiki is only 5'9" and a half right now, not as tall as in the CG. Does that mean he's younger here than in the opening, and maybe his skills aren't as monstrous yet?]

[Probably not a huge difference. Middle school in Japan is three years. Aomine wouldn't just have a sudden growth spurt and skill explosion, right?]

[We still don't know what period the CG is from versus now. Assuming Aomine in the CG is a third-year, and right now he's a first-year, maybe Donnie's character has a chance to compete before Aomine fully develops. Otherwise, I honestly can't see how anyone could beat the monster from that CG.]

[Even against this younger version of Aomine, Donnie's character probably can't win. Aomine himself said Ethan isn't his rival anymore.]

[Let's summarize the info from Aomine and that girl's conversation…]

[Donnie's character is 'Ethan Woods,' he's 5'10". He used to be good enough at basketball to rival Aomine, but he quit at some point. His skills haven't improved much since then, so he's probably not on Aomine's level anymore.]

[And finally, there's a middle school league.]

[My guess is the main storyline of the game is to join a team in middle school and defeat the Generation of Miracles in the league tournament?]

[…]

[Five players at Aomine's level, plus a sixth man? Beating them sounds like hell difficulty!]

The viewers in the stream chattered amongst themselves.

Meanwhile, back on the basketball court, Donnie's duel with Kenjiro Takamuro had decisively ended.

For Donnie's third point, facing an opponent whose mentality had clearly crumbled, he executed a simple front crossover and easily blew past Kenjiro.

He accelerated, sprinted.

Layup.

All in one smooth motion.

Kenjiro Takamuro was even more thoroughly defeated in this exchange.

"Big Bro Kenjiro, you…"

"Bro! It's okay! You were probably just careless. You'll definitely win next time!"

"It's fine, it's just a one-on-one. Basketball isn't only about duels! You're a Teiko second-stringer, remember!"

His lackeys' attempts at consolation did nothing to make Kenjiro feel any better.

Being at Teiko Middle School, they had their own code when it came to acknowledging stronger players.

Kenjiro said gravely:

"You won…"

"I'll stay away from this court from now on. I won't come back."

"Your name is…?"

At this moment, Donnie, as if he hadn't heard Kenjiro's words, remained standing motionless under the basket.

[Player has completed the Newbie Tutorial Mission: 'Trial of the Street Court.' Received Newbie Welfare: Acquaint Fate x20. Rewards have been sent to your Mail.]

['Training' System Unlocked]

['Missions' System Unlocked]

['Character' System Unlocked]

['Skills' System Unlocked]

['Achievements' System Unlocked]

['Wish' System Unlocked]

The flood of system unlocks appearing in the game left Donnie stunned.

A moment later, Donnie ignored Kenjiro and, from the viewers' perspective, walked off the court with a cool, aloof expression.

The instant he stepped off the court, however, Donnie's face suddenly lit up with excitement. He turned to his stream viewers and said:

"Guys! We have a chance to play sci-fi basketball just like Aomine!"

"The 'Gacha' tag in the game's description, it refers to this 'Wish' system!"

"You use this…"

"You use this 'Acquaint Fate' stuff to pull for character cards!"

"I just checked the Character system. Besides Ethan Woods, the character I'm playing, you can equip an additional 4 character cards. Your various basketball-related stats will take the highest value from among these equipped character cards."

"And the most crucial part is…"

"They give you 20 Acquaint Fates for free at the start! Free pulls!"

"And every 10-pull guarantees a 4-star character or skill!"

"This developer is generous!"

As he said this, Donnie opened the Wish interface. The first thing that popped up was a separate banner…

[Newbie Wish]

[4-Star Character]

[Shinji Koganei (Seirin High - First Year)]

[Skill]

[Wide-Range Shot (Shinji Koganei)]

[Limited to 20 Pulls, 20% Discount]

[10-Pull guarantees Character Card 'Shinji Koganei' or Skill Card 'Wide-Range Shot']

"Guys, there's a newbie banner too, and it's 20% off!"

"So, 20 pulls here will only cost 16 Acquaint Fates. We'll have 4 left over to pull on other banners."

"But besides the Newbie Wish, there are three other types of Wish banners. Let's check those out first before deciding what to pull."

After the initial excitement wore off, Donnie became more cautious about the unfamiliar Wish gacha system. After all, he only had 20 free Acquaint Fates. He had to make his first steps count.

[Limited-Time Wish (7 Days)]

[5-Star Character]

[Taiga Kagami (Middle School - First Year)]

[Standard Wish]

[5-Star Characters]

[The Uncrowned Kings]

[Teppei Kiyoshi, Makoto Hanamiya, Reo Mibuchi, Kotaro Hayama, Eikichi Nebuya (Middle School - First Year)]

[Skill Wish]

[5-Star Skills]

[Lightning Dribble (Kotaro Hayama)]

[Heaven Shrouded Shot (Reo Mibuchi)]

[Rate-Up Mechanic: Players can use the 'Rate-Up' mechanism to target a desired 5-star skill. After setting a rate-up for a desired skill, if you obtain a non-rate-up 5-star skill from the Skill Wish, you will gain 1 Fate Point, with a maximum of 2 Fate Points (likely a pity system for the targeted skill).]

"Who's this Taiga Kagami?" Donnie wondered.

"He's not one of the Generation of Miracles either, but he's a limited 5-star character?"

"But this banner needs 'Intertwined Fate,' which I don't have right now…"

"In the Standard Wish, the Uncrowned Kings seem pretty awesome. It also uses Acquaint Fate, but unfortunately, there's no discount."

"Let's just stick to the Newbie Wish for now. The other characters are listed as 'Middle School - First Year.' This Shinji Koganei is only a 4-star, but he starts as a 'High School - First Year.' A high school player shouldn't be weaker than a middle schooler, right?"

"Type 1 if you agree with Donnie's analysis!"

The chat flooded with:
