Synopsis
In a world where werewolf clans have long since hidden in plain sight, blending seamlessly into modern society, Roman Vale is the top alpha, in the world, head of the legendary Obsidian Fang pack (free will is a crazy thing), CEO of powerful biotech company, and known across supernatural circles as a cold-blooded man (or werewolf I don't know) who doesn’t believe in fate, love, or soulmates. Until he meets Jace, a sharp-tongued, stubborn human who crashes into his life like a hurricane, Jace is rude, chaotic, swears like a sailor, and doesn’t give a damn about Roman's status. He’s not impressed by the power, the money, or the primal appeal of a top wolf, mainly because he doesn't believe him but that's exactly what makes Roman obsessed. They spend one explosive night together. Roman wakes up alone. Jace is gone without a trace. No note. No scent trail. Nothing. The only thing left behind is a strange ache deep in Roman's chest. A pull. A tether. A need. He tells himself it’s not love—it can’t be. So he vows to track Jace down and kill him just to erase this maddening connection. Six years later, Roman still hasn’t found him. He’s spent years burying the memory under work, war, and blood—but the feeling never fades. What Roman doesn’t know is that Jace didn’t just leave—he left pregnant. With his children. (Because I have free will). Jace has spent the last six years raising twin werewolf kids in a run-down apartment, keeping their identity hidden from both human services and supernatural politics. All while taking care of his rebellious 19-year-old brother, Cal, who dropped out of school and refuses to admit he’s spiraling. Jace is drowning—behind on rent, barely keeping food in the fridge, and working under-the-table jobs just to survive. But he doesn’t ask for help. He won’t. He doesn’t trust anyone, not with the kids. Not after what happened that night, even if… truthfully… he doesn’t remember most of it. He chalked it up to a blackout. A mistake. A blur of heat and anger and lust. All he knows is he woke up alone in a stranger’s hotel room with weird scratches on his back and a vague sense that something had changed. But there’s no time to dwell. Not when his life’s crumbling around him. Jace’s fourth job just fired him, rent’s due, and Cal’s being a dick again. So when a quiet, clean ad shows up on a sketchy bulletin board—Live-in help needed. Light cleaning, some cooking, and child care. Excellent pay. Housing included—he’s desperate enough to call. The house is massive. The kids are polite. The fridge is actually stocked. It almost feels like a trap, but for once, it’s a good one. So Jace takes the job. He doesn’t meet the homeowner right away, but he needs this job, he really does. This is You Melt Me Down by yours truly.

Chapter 1 - Bad Word

"So you are a furry?"

"No. I am a werewolf."

I'm half delirious right now and somehow shirtless in this furries bed.

I mean, at least he's jacked?

I guess.

I can't really tell, it is very dark.

"So a fucking furry?"

"If that's what you want to call it."

"Now." I felt his hands lightly flip me over onto my back.

Can this bitch turn on a goddamn light?

"Are your eyes yellow?"

"Am I yellow?"

"No, are your EYES yellow?" dumb ass.

The guy started to laugh. "Sometimes."

He kissed the sides of my neck. "It won't hurt, I promise."

He pulled back up, and I watched as he went to turn on the light.

His yellow eyes stared back at me.

His face.

His.

HOLY FUCK.

I felt myself jolt awake in bed.

Holy fuck.

"What's up with you?" I turned to Calvin, who was on his phone. I spent an arm and a leg to get.

My breathing was heavy and my heart was fucking racing.

Every goddamn night.

Every single night.

"Nothing…why are you in here?"

"MOMMY!" Can a man get a moment of peace?

I just wanted to sleep just a little more.

I got up and opened the door.

"Hi, children."

"Mommy, Cal wouldn't feed us."

"Yeah, I know, I will feed y'all," I said, picking them both up.

I sat them down at the table.

I poured the rest of the milk into their bowls, opened the one and only box of cereal in the cabinet, and poured it out for them.

"Thank you, mommy."

I grabbed the rest of the instant coffee and put it in a regular bottle of water.

"Are we going out today?" Leo smiled.

Fuckkkk. "Yes, honey, once you guys finish eating, we will go out."

Free activities for the win, and the dollar store, because the kids love the cheap toys from there.

I am having so many regrets.

"Should have left me at home," Cal said, he was on his phone with his shitty headphones plugged into his phone.

"Mommy, mommy, it's hot. I'm hot," Lyra whined.

"I know, I know."

We walked into the library, and the kids quickly ran over to the play area.

The library was a nice free entertainment for the whole family.

"When can you enroll the kids in kindergarten?"

"Another year, the school district is wack and makes me want to cry."

"Oh, okay," Cal said.

Silence.

It was nice.

Almost. "When are you going to go back to school?"

If looks could kill, I would be dead. "Waste of money."

"Or you can go to community college like I did-."

"And live a dead-end life with 4 jobs I can barely hold down, no, thank you."

This mother fucker.

You don't even have a damn job.

FREELOADER!

I felt my phone vibrating.

DINER FREAK.

"Hello."

"Hi, is this Jace Jones?"

"Yes, this is him."

"Hello, it has come to my attention that you are on your 4th report and strike. And it deeply saddens." FUCKKKK "us, but we have to let you go. If you have any questions, we can answer them. But due to your repeated offenses with your "attitude" and customer complaints, we think that it is best to let you go."

Oh. "Uh, okay, then. Well thank you."

I ended the phone call.

We are captial f fucked.

After around 17 more minutes, the twins got bored and we made our way to the park.

"Momma, you are too big to go down the slide." bitch ass kid.

"Watch me," I said, and I went down the slide, and Lyra and Leo started jumping around.

Oh my god, these kids have so much energy.

Like dogs, oh my god, all they want to do is eat, sleep, and run around.

"Mommy, mommy!"

"Yes?"

"Did you and daddy used to do this when you were kids?" So what if I lied to them?

Kids talk, and they talk a lot, and it is so incredibly frowned upon to be a single parent in society, so I just lied to them.

Every day, it gets worse and worse, and I'm okay with that.

If they figure out what engagement rings are, I am so fucked!

"Yes, when we were in elementary school, we first met in this exact park." A complete lie.

I don't even know what their dad looks like.

Only faint, crazy dreams that I have every single night of little slivers of what he looks like. But I don't actually know.

"That's so cute, Mommy!"

"Yes, we even came here when I was pregnant."

"When is Daddy coming back?" Never because I don't know who he is.

I lied, saying he was in the military and they used to see him a lot when they were younger, and they just can't remember.

"I don't know, baby, but let's keep playing okay!" They nodded and went back into the play structure.

I felt something pull me back, and I turned to Cal.

"Yes, Calvin?"

"Did you lose your job at the diner?" Oh!!

"No? Where did you get that?" He raised his eyebrows at me.

I sighed. "Yeah, but it's fine, the other jobs can hold us down in the meantime."

"Uh, I could get a job."

"No."

"Come on, I could go back to my GED, try again."

"I said no."

"I literally just want to help. I know there are some places that are hiring teenagers."

"I said NO. Stop fucking fighting me on this. We are leaving," I said, frustrated.

I gathered the twins up and we started to make our way home.

"Do you guys want some chips?" I asked, and the two started jumping up and down.

They ran into the corner store while I stood outside.

I was going to look for a new job.

Starting with this dumb ass bulletin.

The usual mix of handwritten ads for guitar lessons.

Weird readings.

And lost cats.

"Live in help needed." It was too clean. "Light cleaning, child care, excellent pay. Housing included." It was too glossy. "Call this number."

It was almost sterile.

That seems way too good to be true, I am gonna get kidnapped.

"Call that damn number."

"So I can get kidnapped, no way!"

"You've tried worse, call that mother fucking number," cal said as he shoved me.

I don't need to put myself and my children at risk.

No way no fucking way.
