Chapter 2 - What comes after Death?

I felt like I was hovering above the ground, yet I could feel no air on my skin or anything else for that matter. It was pure nothingness, yet I still knew I was floating.

"So… this one is called Kim Jun-su, died after being shot in the head during an armed robbery, death occurred in an instant" a voice said. The sounds were muffled but still somehow understandable.

"That's strange… don't we normally only get people who were hit by trucks?" another voice asked, confused.

"I think it's nice that they're trying to go with different methods, seeing humans that have been driven over gets boring after so many years…"

I could hear a drawer being opened and something being pulled out before the sound of rustling paper mixed with murmuring reached my ears.

"Seems pretty average to me… Average scores, slightly above average salary, mediocre physique, slightly below normal penis size… seems pretty average to me, at least average enough to land down here"

I could once more hear the sound of paper rustling, but my mind was still stuck on that last sentence.

"Soooooo… do we already know where he is going?" One of the two asked. "No, and unless something goes very, very wrong, we hopefully will never find out."

'Who are these people out there, and why can't I open my eyes?'. The only thing I could do was listen. I couldn't move, talk, or see what was going on. The only thing I could do was listen to those two strangers talking about the most intimate aspects of my life, even events that I had long forgotten myself, or even some things nobody except me could know.

"Set fire to a trash can when he was eleven…"

'How could you possibly know that? Nobody ever found that out, and I never told anybody!' However, these two just continued talking like I couldn't hear them.

"Got rejected twice, once in high school and once in…. Oh? God that must've been so embarrassing" they giggled, sounding more and more like high school girls who found somebody's diary. But it didn't stop there. While I was listening for what felt like hours, they went through every moment of my life that I'd rather forget, some I already managed to forget, but... they seemed to enjoy reading those out loud. At least I could be pretty certain that they knew that I could hear every word they said.

"Come on… I think you should stop now," one of the two said. "No way, why would I? This guy is too entertaining…" They continued bickering for some time until they stopped, silence returning to my mind.

"I guess we can send him on his way now, right?"

"Yes, let's get him on his way," they said. Then suddenly I could feel myself getting picked up by what felt like a large cloud made out of cotton candy.

*cough* *cough* "Mister Kim Jun-su, after evaluating your life, we found that due to the lack of… everything in your prevision life, you will be given a new chance for a more exciting and thrilling experience. As an excuse for your mediocre experience in your last life, for your new one you will be given a place to live as well as the perfect conditions for a more exciting life. Have fun!"

With those last words her voice was replaced by an unbearable ringing in my ears. It got louder and louder to the point where my eardrums were sure to burst and every possible thought in my mind was replaced with the same words: "Make this end!"

My skin was burning up, feeling like I had been poked with thousands of tiny needles, after which somebody had carefully placed a tiny sun in every hole that was left in my skin. I wanted to scream. I wanted to scream until my vocal cords would rip and make me unable to say another word ever again, but it seemed like there was nothing physical linked to my thoughts anymore.

I felt pain in all my body parts yet couldn't move them, it was like phantom pain — pain in places that did not exist, itching in places that were somehow impossible to scratch, dust in the eyes that just refuses to get out, no matter how hard you blink or how much it already made you cry.

If even possible, I was sure every bone in my body would be broken by now, taken out and replaced with glowing iron, before somebody took a sewing machine to sew my burnt skin back together.

'Please! Somebody make this stop!' I screamed internally, only to feel like my airways were filled with liquid. I felt like I was drowning, even though I had not even taken a single breath since the beginning of this torture.

I only wanted it to end, and then, without any notice it did.
