It was a starless moonlight on a beautiful Friday night.
Scratch that, the girls heart were pounding because of what they were about to do as they saw the looming facility from a distance.
The road was quiet and the only sound heard was from the engine of their car. Cherry packed the car at the closest building to the asylum which was a two kilometers walk from there to avoid suspicion.
"What's the plan", asked Mari as the approached the tall wall of the building.
"What plan"
"The plan on how to breech the security and meet mum"
"I thought you had the plan"
"Why would I have a plan"
"You were the one who practically said you wanted to talk to mum"
"And your the oldest so you should have made a plan on the way here"
"Oh so now your pulling the 'who's older card' huh"
"Shh I hear someone coming", Mari hushed and immediately they both hid behind the wall away from the street lights around the wall. Holding their breath in as the person passed, luckily for them they already drank a potion before hand to mask their scent.
Mari had told the girls earlier that week about her mum's letter and the previous day Hannah had given her a cloaking portion form her mum's elixir cabinet.
They were one with the shadows.
"But come to think of it why did they make it so impenetrable, sounds suspicious to me", Mari said as they began to speak in hush whispers.
"I thought that's actually how most asylum work", Cherry said.
"Eh no only the ones in the supernatural world and to me that's basically a prison but here is crawling with humans"
"And who told you the humans here don't know about us"
"Wait..they do"
"Come on Mari, we live in the city of Crescent fall, so of course some supernaturals are admitted here and you can't tell me the humans who work here have never seen them lash out before", Cherry said.
"Plus am sure that's why this particular facility hardly accept visitors without invite or permission from the patient so as not to raise suspicion"
"Dad had said something about them signing an NDA with the alpha of Moon Park to keep shut on whatever they see that goes on here", Cherry added.
"Isn't that dangerous though, for the humans that are admitted here too"
"I have feeling they're kept in separate building, the facility is huge"
"Come on we got to get inside", Cherry said spotting a dumpster to there left.
"How"
"We are werewolves for a reason....am going to sniff the area before we jump ok", Cherry said and sniffed down the whole wall they were in and listened for any movement.
She listened for some time noticed the sounds of feet about two pairs who passed every minute.
"The coast is clear let's go", she whispered.
"But I can't jump", Mari said with a pout.
"Are you being serious right now, your a freaking werewolf", Cherry said looking at her sister with pure disbelief.
"What! I've never jumped that high before"
"I thought you killed a rouge with your friends", Cherry pointed out
"Well that's totally different"
"Fine I will jump in first and then I will catch you", she said not wanting to waste any more time arguing with her sister.
"Really"
"Yes now be quiet, we've wasted enough time we have just fourthteen seconds to the next round of guards pass", Cherry said climbing the dumpster, jumping over the fence and landing gracefully.
"So much for being impenetrable", she muttered quietly as she dusted herself.
Mari then follows her sister leads and jumps down making cherry to give an "omph" while catching her sister.
"Whose there", someone said shining a touch at them. They immediately hid behind a container they saw.
The guard came and looked round and left.
"Is anyone there", they heard his partner ask.
"No. Probably those annoying cats chasing the rats again", the first guard said making them to burst out laughing.
"Whew that was close", Mari said clutching her chest.
"We got lucky cause their humans"
"True", Mari said agreeing with a shrug.
"There's a camera at that corner over there and there", Cherry said using her sharp werewolf eyesight. She pointed at a direction that had a tiny red dot like thing blinking steadily.
"How are we going to pass through"
"I see a door kind of opposite us, that doesn't seem to have security camera. We just have to wait for the next round of guards to pass to cross over"
Immediately the guards passed again Cherry whispered yelled.
"Go now"
Upon reaching the glass door Mari noticed something below the door knob "It needs a key card", Mari hissed.
"Urgh I missed my friends, Cleo is usually the tech genius and we also don't have any witches or fairy too", Mari groaned leaning her back against the door.
"Witches yes, faires no, they can't do anything illegal for the life of them"
"Hmm, no wonder Liv is always so free spirited"
"Don't worry I got it covered", Cherry said bringing out a key card.
"How did you get it"
"I have my ways", she nonchalantly why Mari glared at her.
"Ok fine, I hacked into their security system and modified my own key card" Cherry said scanning the key card and walking inside with her sister gaping at her.
"Wow...I didn't know you could do tech stuffs"
"I had no idea myself", Cherry chuckled. Then both girls turned a corner to the next corridor and was met face first with a woman with folded arms and a stern glare directed at them.
"Oh hi there", Cherry said waving her hands nervously.
"What if is a patient that's just sleep walking"
"Does her dressing look like a patient's"
"Shit", Mari muttered.
"Shit indeed"
"We are so doomed for"
~~~~~~~~~~
The girls sat in the receptionist area while the receptionist who happened to be the same woman from earlier sat behind her desk and tapped away on her computer.
The girls sat quietly in there seat and from someone else's point of view, they looked like elementary kids who just got reprimanded from their class teacher.
"Why are you girls here at this time of the night"
"Well...um..", Mari stuttered and turned to her sister for help but Cherry remained impassive and looked at the woman before her.
The woman wore an all black outfit and looked to be in her early thirties, she smelt werewolf too probably a hybrid since another scent is suppressing it.
"We just came to see our mum", Mari confessed looking down shamelessly.
"It's past visiting hours", the woman pointed out.
"We got no invitation so we decided to break in", Cherry said with a shrug. Mari stared at her sister who just looked unfazed about the situation.
But Cherry did care, she just has an eerie feeling about the woman in front of her. It wasn't something to trust or put your guard down.
"I see", the woman said clicking her tongue at Cherry's tone. She looked up at her and smirked, Cherry hated it.
The woman turned to Mari and asked "what's your mother's name deary"
Mari perked up with excitement in her eyes "Melissa Dawnson"
"Hmmmmm", the woman hummed upon hearing the name. It felt like she knew their mother, this made both girls feel uneasy.
"Is something wrong", Mari asked unsurely with a quiet voice.
"Nothing...you girls should follow me", the woman said turning on her heel, she began to walk down the corridor opposite them.
The girls looked at each other then back at the woman's figure who's already turning to another corridor by the left.
They had no choice did they. So they stood up and followed her.
~~~~~~~~~
Mari and Cherry walked down the quiet corridors with blinding white walls.
The place smelt of strong antiseptic and it itches their nose.
Turning to the next corridor which was more noisy as they passed closed strong heavy metallic doors. They heard screams, some where begging to be let out as they passed and banged there bodies on the door.
They all smelt supernaturals.
'They must be in the supernatural wing's, Mari thought.
"Ignore them", the woman in front of them said. She was so indifferent and unfazed about their pleas.
Reaching the last door at the end of the corridor to the right she knocked gently on it.
"Patient 2310 you have vistors'",
"Tell them am busy", they heard a gruff voice say.
"They claim to be your kids", it was quiet behind the doors now.
The woman turned to leave but Mari stopped her to say thank you.
"Am just doing my job", the woman had said coldly and walked away.
"Huh what crawled up her ass and died", Cherry said making both of them laugh.
They stared at the door which was still quiet and it made both girls uneasy as they looked at each other contemplating on what t to do.
"Hey mum, it's us Mari and Cherry", Mari said with a soft chuckle. "We missed you", she added with a soft sob.
Behind the door still remained silent.
"Mum please, talk to us even if is a hey"
But there was no response.
They came again the next day and the next and the next after the next but no response from their mother.
She said nothing for four days straight.
It was Tuesday now, Mari had just come back from school and hour ago and now her and Cherry were here again. Still back at square one.
Mari was banging lightly on the door crying for her mom to speak to her but Melissa refused to answer.
She couldn't answer, she sobbed silently as she heard her children voice crying outside her door after so many years. She couldn't let them see how broken she was, she just could not.
Outside was that Mari didn't notice all this time they came to visit their mum Cherry was also busy studying the lock on her mum's room door.
She had plan to break in if her mum keeps up being stubborn.
Mari wiped her tears and stared at the door now with anger.
"Fine since you so want to give the silent treatment I will go and I will stop caring about you. I'm so done acknowledging you as my mother
"Mari", Cherry warned trying to control her sister's anger.
"No Cher am tired, am really so fucking tired ok. She keeps acting cold towards us and all we do is still care, why care for someone who doesn't huh", Mari was yelling at this point.
"Mari you need to calm down"
"Don't tell me to clam down Cher ok, she's not our mother anymore, our mum died six years ago ok", Mari said the last part quietly as she broke down in tears.
Cherry knelt down beside her and wiped her tears.
"It's alright, she's going to come around eventually"
"When would she huh....when", Mari said in between sobs.
Cherry mouthed fir to keep quiet as they talked telepathically now.
"What are you going to do", Mari asked.
"Am going to break the lock"
"But how....I doubt that key card works for patients rooms"
"I've been studying it for quite some time now, I think I go this"
Standing up she walked to the keypad to type in some codes.
"You don't have to break into my private space Cherry", they heard their mum say.
"How did she....", Cherry asked telepathically to her sister.
Their mother blocked herself from the mind link ever since her visions became too strong.
"Mum", Mari cried out.
"I will tell you everything you want to know.....but please"
"Are you ok", Cherry asked noticing the edge on her mum's voice.
"At least you could say you missed us", Mari murmured.
Melissa chuckled. "I do Mari, I missed you both so much....but I can't answer you girls right now, not here anyways"
"Why", Mari asked.
"They might be listening", the mother said surprisingly through the mind link.
"Who", Cherry asked back telepathically but Melissa ignored the question
"I will text you the time and the address of the location. We will meet there", Melissa said and the girls went quiet.
"I promise", She added.
