Evan kept searching through the woods, his eyes peeled for any wild Pokémon that could give Weedle a good battle to boost its combat skills. As he ventured deeper into the forest, a wild Rattata suddenly zipped across his path.
Weedle, loyally trailing behind, immediately slithered forward, sensing the challenge ahead.
"A battle, huh? Alright, Weedle—String Shot!" Evan shouted.
"Weedle~!"
With impressive speed, Weedle shot out a stream of sticky silk toward the Rattata. The wild Pokémon noticed the attack but was too slow to dodge—before long, it found itself tangled in the white threads, unable to move.
"Now, Poison Sting!"
At Evan's command, Weedle's horn glimmered for a moment before launching a sharp, venomous dart straight at the trapped Rattata. The hit was spot on, and the wild Pokémon collapsed to the ground, knocked out.
Weedle swayed happily from side to side, chirping in celebration of its victory.
"Great job, buddy," Evan praised as he approached. Kneeling beside the fainted Rattata, he pulled out a healing spray from his bag and gently treated the injured Pokémon. Afterward, he offered it a few berries. Rattata sniffed them cautiously, then happily accepted the snack before darting off into the underbrush.
Instead of continuing his search for more wild Pokémon, Evan headed toward the familiar grove where he and Weedle often trained. Weedle had already climbed onto his shoulder, chirping contentedly.
"Hey, Weedle," Evan said, glancing sideways at the little bug-type nestled against him. He usually kept Weedle outside of the Pokéball, except during class.
"Weedle~?"
"How about I give you a nickname?" Evan suggested with a grin.
"Weedle! Weedle~" Weedle wiggled in excitement, clearly loving the idea.
"Alright then, I'll come up with the perfect name for you."
(Evan's POV)
I think… it's time to try something new.
"Weedle, can you do me a favor?" I asked.
"Weedle?"
"Can you combine String Shot with Poison Sting? Let's launch them at the same time."
Weedle nodded, looking determined. He always gives it his all for me, and if this works—it could be a game changer. It might just make him stronger than a lot of other Pokémon out there.
One week later
It's been over a week since Weedle hatched. In that time, I've been picking up massage techniques from Aunt Rachel and diving deeper into the world of breeding.
But something even more amazing happened—I found out that I can generate a green energy that Weedle really responds to. This energy is what led me to his egg in the first place… and I've decided to name him Thorn.
When I channel this energy into him while he's sleeping, I've noticed his "color" seems to deepen. I'm not talking about his physical look—this is something different. It's like an inner glow. That's when it hit me: this energy lets me see a Pokémon's qualification rank.
The ranking system is: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, and Gold. Thorn has a Green qualification, which means he has solid potential. But with how this energy interacts with him… I really believe I can boost that potential.
It also works wonders for healing. This discovery has changed everything for me.
I've made a decision. Once school wraps up, I'm going to pursue the path of a true trainer—just like Ash. I'll take on the Gym Challenge and set my sights on the Indigo League. And I know exactly what kind of trainer I want to be.
Since my energy works especially well on Bug-types… I'm going to become a Bug-type Specialist. People might laugh or underestimate me now. But I know the truth: one day, there will be a trainer who reaches Elite level using only Bug Pokémon—and that trainer will be me.
Thorn even proved my theories right. Together, we created a new move: Poison Web—a blend of String Shot and Poison Sting. If we can achieve that, who knows what else is possible?
Now, I have six months to get ready before I embark on my journey.

When I think about my future team, I really take my time to consider who I want alongside me. Since I vibe best with Bug-types, it makes perfect sense to build my squad around them. I'm planning to catch a Scyther—it's quick, sharp, and a real powerhouse in close combat. I also want a Venonat, especially since it can evolve into a strong Venomoth and has a knack for status moves. A Parasect is on my list too, thanks to its amazing Spore ability and fungal strength. And let's not forget about Pinsir—when trained properly, that thing is an absolute beast! I'm even thinking about raising a Butterfree or maybe two—one male and one female, just in case any mating instincts pop up later. I'm determined to keep the bond with my team strong. Of course, if things change, I'll be ready to adapt. But for now, these are the partners I want on this journey—my future champions.
