Chapter 55: How Strong is This Card? Its ATK is 0
Not long after Rex left in a huff, Weevil felt he had gotten close enough to Yugi. He left with a smile, pretending to suggest that if they were interested in the "New Rule", they could find him.
Joey Wheeler , who was quite looking forward to the luxurious "VIP Suite", was just about to follow the staff member in black out of the Ship Cabin when Hayato stopped him.
"What is it, Hayato?"
"Regarding this Ship Cabin, have you guys noticed something?" Hayato didn't state the reason directly but pointed to the Duelists behind them who had already found their spots in the Ship Cabin.
Joey Wheeler looked around the Ship Cabin and asked in confusion, "Notice what? I just see a lot of people chatting together? What that dinosaur guy said wasn't wrong, this place really isn't suitable for resting, we should hurry and leave."
Unlike Joey Wheeler , Yugi noticed. "I see. In that case, Joey Wheeler , maybe we can stay here a little longer. Look over there."
Following the direction Yugi pointed, Joey Wheeler finally noticed that the Duelists gathered and chatting were holding their respective Decks in their hands. Along with their conversation, they would occasionally draw Cards from their Decks to exchange with each other.
"They're, exchanging Cards?" Although Joey Wheeler was still slow to catch on, Tristan and Téa had already figured it out. "I see, this is a Dormitory, not very convenient for resting, but it has also become a quite convenient Card Exchange spot."
"Exactly. Although exchanging Cards right before a Match might make people think you lack confidence in your Deck, strengthening your Deck's Power is what's practical." Hayato said, taking out a Deck as well. "I also have quite a few Cards I want to trade away, maybe I can find some Powerful Cards."
This wasn't Hayato just talking. In the original timeline, Joey Wheeler took the discarded Cards from his Gambler Warrior Deck and actually managed to trade for these four Cards: Kunai with Chain, Baby Dragon, Flame Swordsman, and Swordsman of Landstar. Every single one was a quite practical Card.
Although the Strength of the Duelists gathered here was stronger than amateurs, their focus was more on pursuing purely Powerful Monsters. There were many who didn't know value when they saw it, not much different from the people in the future Duel Academy who would discard Relinquished with 0 ATK as a useless Card.
Hayato hadn't gone to trade Cards yet, but Joey Wheeler beside him also followed suit, taking out his Deck. He moved faster than Hayato, approaching the Duelists and starting conversations to exchange Cards.
"Hayato-kun, do you actually have a spare Deck?" Yugi looked at the thick stack of Cards in Hayato's hand with some surprise.
"No, they're just some discarded Cards, and 'some' were obtained through Card Gambling with others." Looking at the TM-1 Launcher Spider on top of the Card Pile in his hand, which he had swiped from the Escaped Convict Lucky, Hayato recalled the System's reply with slight displeasure.
Although the System's Shop provided Hayato with the Convert function, it only converted R Grade and higher Cards. Thus, he was left with a thick stack of Small Fry N-Rank Cards. Although, looking at the current Rules, many of these N-Rank Cards were still quite Powerful, Hayato had learned of Pegasus's Plan beforehand, so he intended to trade these items away as soon as possible to avoid being stuck with them.
Although he could also give them to Tristan to improve his rarely used Deck, Tristan wasn't very willing to accept them, feeling that Hayato's Cards were "so rare and Powerful, he would be too embarrassed to take them."
----Pleasant Trading Time----
That night, after taking a comfortable hot bath and leaving his room, Hayato let the cool sea breeze dry his hair. He saw Yugi and Joey Wheeler sitting at a round table on the Deck outside their room, discussing their respective gains from the day.
"Ah, Hayato-kun, aren't you going to rest?"
Yugi was the first to notice Hayato's appearance and moved over, making space for Hayato to sit down.
"We'll be arriving at Duelist Kingdom tomorrow, how could I possibly sleep in this situation?" Hayato sat down with a smile and looked at Yugi's and Joey Wheeler 's Cards. "How were your gains today?"
Because Hayato and Joey Wheeler were trading so enthusiastically, Yugi eventually used Cards from his spare Deck to exchange for two as well: Lightning Vortex, obtained by trading Aqua Madoor, and Absorption Shield, obtained by trading Mystical Elf. Joey Wheeler , on the other hand, traded for the four Cards from the original timeline.
"Yours Truly's gains are pretty good, right?"
Joey Wheeler boasted. Hayato had to admit that the four Cards he traded for were indeed quite strong.
"Yeah, they're all quite Powerful Cards." Hayato also pulled out his gains for the day from his pocket. "However, my gains are better than yours. Quite a few people traded Powerful Cards to me."
Joey Wheeler leaned over curiously, wanting to see what Cards Hayato had traded for, but after seeing a bunch of red and green, he recoiled. "What the heck, Hayato, why are you like Yugi, only trading for some Spell Cards and Trap Cards?"
"Of course, it's because the people willing to trade Cards have the same idea as you, thinking that Duel Monsters only needs Monster Cards." Hayato said, drawing the only Monster Card from the pile of Spell and Trap Cards. "Also, I traded for a pretty good Monster Card too~"
"Mystical Elf? This Monster looks frail and weak, not strong at all." Joey Wheeler didn't quite understand what use the Monster in Hayato's hand, with only 0 ATK, could possibly have.
"You can't just look at the surface in Duel Monsters; their abilities are hidden behind them. Ah, speaking of which," Yugi, who had seen the strength of Hayato's Mystical Elf, said to Joey Wheeler . Then, as if he suddenly remembered something, he drew a Card from the Golden Sarcophagus placed in front of him and handed it to Joey Wheeler .
" Joey Wheeler -kun, why don't you use this Card?"
"Huh, Time Wizard? Its ATK is so weak." Joey Wheeler looked at the Card Yugi gave him with some disdain. Just as he was about to say something, Hayato interrupted him. "Just take it and keep it safe. You'll see how Powerful this Card is. Even if you don't believe in the Card itself, at least believe in me and Yugi, right?"
"Since you put it that way, fine." Joey Wheeler heard Hayato speak to this extent and reluctantly took Time Wizard. Just as he put the Card into his Deck, a familiar voice came from behind them:
"Oh my, what a coincidence, Yugi-kun. I didn't expect you guys to still be awake at night."
Hayato turned his head to look. Weevil, dressed in green, walked onto the third-floor Deck where they were, with a smile. "Yeah, what a coincidence, Weevil Underwood."
