Chapter 26: When "Luck" Knocks
After Hayato opened the Booster Pack he had exchanged for all his DP Points, several messages popped up in the System:
[Detected Beginner Booster Pack opened. "Sai Q Duelist System" fully activated, providing upgrade patch for the Duelist.]
[Patch installation complete. Duelist "Personal" module enabled. Please click avatar to view.]
[Upgrade Reward automatically distributing. Please receive.]
Hayato hadn't even had time to check what Cards he had pulled before being bombarded with a string of messages. It took him a while to figure out that his System wasn't the full version until he opened that [Beginner Booster Pack], which finally activated the official version.
As a benefit of the upgrade, the System would grant Hayato the ability to communicate "with Card Spirits," which is a standard ability for Advanced Duelists, known as "Card Telepathy."
Who would his awakened Card Spirit be? Hayato couldn't help but imagine. The deepest memory he had was still that one Divine Draw of [Gaia The Fierce Knight]. If he awakened a Card Spirit, the most likely one should be Gaia.
Thinking this, Hayato was plastered in the face by three palm-sized guys, accompanied by three different-sounding calls of "Big Brother."
And this was also the reason Hayato's expression wasn't very good earlier at the Kame Game Shop. On one hand, there was the disappointment of Gaia not awakening, and on the other hand, it was being stuck to by three Ojama Monsters, which startled him (no ambiguity).
"Even [Death Stalker] would be fine. After all, it was a Tamashii I acknowledged, and it was the first Monster I Summoned." Walking home, Hayato looked at the large stack of Cards in his hand and couldn't help but complain, "With so many Cards, anyone would be fine, so why specifically this Card?"
In his hand, he was holding the Card [Ojama Trio]. Perhaps because it helped Hayato create an opportunity for victory in the Duel against Manjoume, this Card was randomly selected by the System to awaken a Card Spirit, which turned out to be the three brothers [Ojama Yellow/Green/Black]. And Hayato happened to have the physical Cards for all three spirits.
Why did I impulsively buy these three back then? With so many R-Rank Selection Cards, why did I choose this one? Hayato couldn't help but sigh.
"Big Brother~"
That annoying voice came from beside his ear again. Hayato immediately reached out and grabbed [Ojama Yellow], who had climbed onto his shoulder at some point. "I remember I warned you. You'd better stay quiet normally, or I'll imitate my classmate, Kaiba Seto."
"Eh~ Did something happen with your classmate, Big Brother?" Even though he was being held up by Hayato with two fingers pinching his body, [Ojama Yellow] still didn't change its annoying nature. Wriggling its feet, it looked at Hayato with its eyes detached from its head, a cheeky smile still on its face.
Hayato put on a stern face: "Him? He tore up Duel Monsters Cards."
"Eek!" [Ojama Yellow] let out a strange cry, startled by Hayato's words. Its mouth was like a machine gun. "Big Brother, please don't tear me up~ I'm much more useful than my other two brothers~ If you're going to tear someone up, tear them up~"
"Ojama Yellow!" Two strange cries suddenly rang out from Hayato's other shoulder, shouting Ojama Yellow's name. Ojama Green and Black leaped onto Ojama Yellow, who was being pinched by Hayato.
"You traitor!"
"I'm going to teach you a good lesson!"
"Take this, Nine Heavens Thunder Double Leg Kick!"
Looking at the Ojama Trio starting to squabble again, Hayato felt his head ache. He quickly shouted to interrupt the three brothers' argument: "You're so noisy! All of you, shut up! If anyone talks again, I'll tear them up!"
The Ojama Trio were startled and quickly looked at Hayato with forced smiles, their hands making a zipping motion over their mouths to show they would shut up. As a result, they actually pulled out zippers, and Ojama Green's tongue even got stuck in the zipper.
"Mama mama, is that big brother over there the 'idiot' you told me about last time?"
"Don't go over there, it's contagious."
Silently watching a passing woman leave with her child, Hayato held the three Ojama Monsters and looked around. Finding nowhere suitable, he quickened his pace towards his home.
What he didn't notice was that in the dense woods by the roadside, a gaze had been locked onto him.
----Being Stalked----
Lucky hid in the cool woods, watching the kid who clearly came from a wealthy family leave. He was hiding in the woods both to evade the annoying Police search and to prepare for his escape.
He was a Murderer, currently in Prison Break Status. The Escaped Convict mentioned in the Newspaper that Hayato heard about on the bus was Lucky.
To escape from prison, Lucky, who was superstitious about Astrology, specifically chose a time when he felt luckiest to break out. And things went just as smoothly. Just last night, he killed a Prison Guard to escape from prison and even took a Revolver with him.
Escaping prison wasn't a single action, but a continuous state. After leaving prison, Lucky tried every means to shake off the Police's pursuit and avoided being seen by anyone as much as possible. According to the law, as long as Lucky could successfully escape to the High Seas, he could gain a considerable period of freedom. As long as he wasn't caught by Interpol, he could even remain at large indefinitely.
However, escaping to the High Seas wasn't a simple matter. Lucky had to get a boat. He knew a Smuggler in Domino City, so the means of getting out to sea wasn't the problem. The biggest problem was that he didn't have a single Coin on him after escaping prison.
Not only that, but to break out of prison, he hadn't eaten anything since noon yesterday. Having not had a drop of water since then, he felt like he could barely walk. Instead of searching everywhere for rich people, Lucky felt it would be better to just find a random target nearby for Robbery and stealing food.
And clearly, our Protagonist, Hayato Kobayashi, was the unlucky one chosen.
"To find a target so quickly, as expected," Lucky held the Revolver in one hand and couldn't help but touch the "777" Tattoo on his forehead with the other. "The Magazine wasn't wrong, today is Yours Truly's lucky day!"
Getting up from the muddy ground, Lucky didn't bother to brush off the dirt on his pants, because in his opinion, since he was going to commit Robbery anyway, stealing a change of clothes wasn't a big deal.
Following the ample green spaces of Domino City, Lucky quietly followed behind Hayato.
