Chapter 25: The War Begins
The night air in Solmaris was cool, a welcome relief from the heat of the day. Farhan stood at the edge of his balcony, his eyes fixed on the sprawling city below. There was a sense of foreboding in the air, like a storm was gathering just out of reach, ready to descend upon them all.
He could feel it in his bones. This was no longer just about business, no longer just about his empire. This was a war. And the enemy was far more dangerous than anything he had encountered before.
Lyssa stepped beside him, her presence steady, almost grounding him in this moment of uncertainty. She didn't need to say anything; the tension in the air spoke volumes. Farhan turned to her, his eyes hard.
"We're going to hit them first," he said, his voice low but resolute. "We can't wait for them to make the first move anymore."
Lyssa nodded, her eyes flashing with determination. "We've got eyes on their operations, and we know where they're vulnerable. If we strike fast, we can take them by surprise."
Farhan's thoughts raced as he thought of the Iron Circle. A shadowy organization that had operated in the dark corners of the world for decades, they were known for their mercenaries, assassins, and their ability to operate with total anonymity. No one knew who ran them, and that was exactly what made them so dangerous. They were a ghost that could strike at any moment.
"We've been gathering intel on their movements for weeks," Lyssa continued, her voice cutting through Farhan's thoughts. "Our sources have pinpointed their base of operations in the southern part of the city. It's heavily guarded, but it's the best lead we've got."
Farhan nodded. "Then that's where we'll strike. We move fast, take them out, and make sure we leave no trace."
---
The plan was simple: a quick and devastating strike. They would send in a small team, consisting of Farhan's most trusted allies, to infiltrate the Iron Circle's base and neutralize their operations. They had to act fast before the organization had a chance to regroup. Time was of the essence.
Farhan assembled his team in the war room, a space deep within his estate that was filled with maps, holographic displays, and endless information about every corner of the city. Lyssa, of course, was at his side, as always, and the others had gathered around the table: his old friend and former soldier, Zaid, a tactical genius who had worked with him in the past; Aria, an expert hacker who had cracked more systems than Farhan cared to count; and lastly, Kiran, a stealth specialist whose skills had gotten them out of more sticky situations than they could count.
The mood in the room was one of controlled urgency. Every member of the team understood the stakes. This was no ordinary mission. They weren't just going in to eliminate some enemy mercenaries. They were going after an organization that had the power to unravel everything Farhan had worked for.
"We need to move fast and efficiently," Farhan said, addressing his team. "There's no room for error. We're going in, neutralizing their operations, and getting out. Everyone knows their role?"
Each person nodded, acknowledging their tasks. Farhan turned to Aria.
"Any intel from your side?" he asked, his voice calm but intense.
Aria adjusted her glasses and brought up a series of maps and data streams on the holographic screen in front of her. "I've located the main entrance to their base. It's hidden in plain sight, disguised as an old warehouse. I've managed to crack the security systems, but there's a catch — their backup network is more advanced than we anticipated. If we trigger a breach, they'll know we're coming."
Farhan's jaw tightened. "We don't have time to go around it. We'll have to take the risk."
Lyssa raised an eyebrow. "Are you sure? If they know we're coming, we might be walking right into a trap."
Farhan met her gaze, the weight of leadership pressing down on him. "We've already made the decision. If they know we're coming, so be it. But we're not backing down."
Zaid grinned, cracking his knuckles. "Sounds like my kind of mission."
"Alright," Farhan said, rallying his team. "Zaid, you're with me. We'll be on the front lines. Kiran, you'll provide cover from the shadows. Aria, I need you to disable their communication lines once we breach. We can't let them send out a warning."
Each member of the team nodded in agreement, ready to execute the plan.
Farhan turned to Lyssa, his eyes serious. "You stay back. Keep the lines of communication open. If things go south, we need a way to get out."
She gave him a firm nod. "I'll be watching your back from here. Just be careful."
With everything set, the team moved out, heading toward the southern district of the city where the Iron Circle's base was located. The streets were eerily quiet, the only sound the soft hum of the city's nightlife in the distance. Farhan's mind was sharp, his senses heightened. The adrenaline coursing through him was something he hadn't felt in a long time. But he knew that this was the moment — the moment where they either made their stand or watched everything crumble.
---
The warehouse loomed ahead, its exterior nondescript, blending into the surrounding buildings. From a distance, it looked like any other abandoned structure, but Farhan knew better. The Iron Circle's operations were hidden in plain sight, and this was just the beginning.
They approached quietly, moving through the shadows, using the cover of night to their advantage. Zaid was the first to reach the building, his body moving with the practiced ease of a soldier. Farhan followed closely behind, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger.
Aria had already begun working on the system remotely, her fingers dancing over her portable device. "I've got access," she said over the comms. "Disabling security now."
Farhan exhaled. "Make it quick. We don't have much time."
The sound of a soft click echoed through their earpieces, followed by the hum of the building's security system going offline. Farhan gave a silent nod to Zaid, signaling that it was time.
Without a word, Zaid moved forward, pressing against the door, his hand on the handle. With a swift motion, the door creaked open, and the team slipped inside, like ghosts in the night.
The inside of the warehouse was dark, but Farhan's eyes quickly adjusted. The place was a labyrinth of crates, equipment, and hidden passageways. He could feel the weight of every step. The Iron Circle had to know they were coming. It was only a matter of time before they realized their operation was under threat.
Farhan signaled for the team to spread out. They moved swiftly, methodical in their approach, taking out guards silently as they made their way deeper into the building.
Then, a voice crackled through the comms.
"Farhan, they've triggered the backup network. They know we're here."
Farhan's heart sank. He had hoped for a clean operation, but now the true test was about to begin.
"Then we make sure they regret it," he growled.
The war had begun.
