Chapter 104 - Chapter 104: Bonds, Banter, and Brewing Trouble

The sun peeked through the canopy, casting golden light on the clearing where the party had chosen to rest. The battle was over, the corrupted sister—now properly introduced as **Aeris**—was safe, and for the first time in what felt like days, there was a sense of peace.

Well… *almost* peace.

"Yuki, stop hogging the roasted meat! You already ate like... half a bear!" Lumi pouted, clutching a stick skewered with sizzling meat and waving it accusingly.

Yuki, back in his smaller humanoid-dragon hybrid form, smirked, flicking his tail lazily. "Dragon metabolism, Lumi. I need it to stay this handsome."

"You mean this *hungry*," Elira muttered, sipping a cup of glowing herbal tea conjured by her magic. "I swear, if I ever have to cook for you again, I'll demand offerings."

Sylvaeria floated nearby, seated cross-legged in the air with her legs shimmering with wind wisps. "He already offers enough trouble to go around."

Aeris, still recovering but now wearing a simple enchanted cloak to cover her battle-torn clothes, sat quietly, observing the group. Her eyes, once void and cold, now carried warmth and curiosity. She spoke timidly, her voice soft but clear. "Are you… always like this?"

Lumi grinned. "Pretty much. Yuki brings the danger, Elira brings the firepower, Sylvaeria floats around being all mysterious, and I keep things from getting boring."

"Elira sets people on fire," Sylvaeria added helpfully.

"She deserved it!" Elira snapped, face red. "Who sneaks up on a mage during bath time!?"

"It was *accidental!*" Lumi cried, clearly traumatized.

Aeris giggled—a light, genuine sound that caused everyone to pause. For someone who had just been saved from soul corruption, she seemed surprisingly at ease now.

Yuki watched her carefully. There was a fragility to her aura still, like a cracked gem being repaired. But beneath that, he sensed something more—*potential*. Whatever the dark entity had done to her had not just corrupted her but altered her soul's structure. And now that she was free, that change remained dormant, waiting.

### **The Unseen Flame**

Later, as the group settled for a deeper discussion, Sylvaeria called the meeting—hovering dramatically as usual.

"I've examined the residual magic surrounding Aeris," she began. "There's… a fragment of something ancient inside her. Not malevolent anymore, but… bound tightly to her soul."

Yuki nodded. "Can it be removed?"

"No," Elira replied before Sylvaeria could answer. "It's not a parasite. It's a seed. And it's already taken root."

Aeris looked confused. "I don't understand… what does that mean?"

"It means," Yuki said gently, "you might've gained something powerful from your time under that entity's control. And I think it'll awaken soon."

Elira nodded, her expression more analytical than before. "We should begin training her. Slowly. If it's a soul-seed like I suspect, it might grant her unique spirit abilities."

"And more importantly…" Lumi leaned forward, eyes twinkling mischievously. "We get a new sparring partner! I call dibs on being her teacher!"

"You just want someone to swing swords at," Elira muttered.

"Guilty as charged."

### **Aeris's Hidden Power**

That night, Yuki sat apart from the others, looking up at the stars. Aeris approached quietly, sitting beside him.

"I still can't believe I'm alive," she murmured. "Let alone that… I'm here. With you."

"You've got a strong soul," Yuki said. "Even if you were controlled, your spirit didn't break. That takes strength most people don't have."

She looked at him, her cheeks tinting a soft pink. "I don't remember much from when I was under his influence… but I do remember your voice. And your flame. It was… warm. Like it was calling me home."

Yuki turned to her, taken aback by the quiet vulnerability in her words. She wasn't just grateful—she was drawn to him.

"You don't owe me anything, Aeris," he said.

She smiled. "I know. That's why I want to stay."

A moment passed between them before Lumi's voice rang out from the camp.

"Hey Yuki! Quit flirting with the new girl and get back here, we're roasting mushrooms!"

"Lumi!" Aeris squeaked.

Yuki chuckled, standing. "Better get used to her. She'll keep doing that."

Aeris looked up at him, then gave a small nod. "I think… I'll enjoy it here."

**End of Chapter 8 – Bonds, Banter, and Brewing Trouble**

In the shadows beyond the camp, far beyond their warmth and laughter, a distant presence stirred. Watching. Waiting. And deep underground… something ancient began to awaken.
