They stepped back, still holding onto each other's arms, their eyes searching the other's face.
"I was looking for you," Ayana said, her voice a little shaky. "The elder in your kingdom he just said 'surface world.'"
"Surface world is big," Leon agreed, shaking his head. "I didn't know where to start looking for you either. I just hoped."
They walked hand in hand to a quieter spot on the beach, the moon now casting a silvery glow on the water. They sat down on the cool sand, the sound of the waves a comforting presence.
"So," Ayana began, turning to him, her eyes full of curiosity. "What have you been doing? Since the Eagle's Feast?"
Leon sighed, running a hand through his wet hair. "It's been complicated. I had these terrible dreams. About Lena."
Ayana's expression softened with understanding. "The queen who rose from the lake?"
Leon nodded, his gaze distant. "Yeah. I saw everything she did. It wasn't good." He looked at Ayana, a shadow of pain in his eyes. "I felt betrayed. I loved her, Ayana."
"I know," Ayana said gently, placing a hand on his arm.
Leon looked at her hand, then back into her eyes. "And then… I started remembering you. Just flashes. Your wings. Your voice. The way you looked at me." A faint blush touched his cheeks. "I… I wanted to know more about you."
"More?" Ayana raised an eyebrow, a playful glint in her eyes. "Like what?"
"Like where you come from," Leon said, his curiosity evident. "The thousand Eagle warriors… King Eagle of the surface world… it sounds like a story."
Ayana smiled, a hint of pride in her voice. "It is a story. Our story. I can tell you all of it."
"Please do," Leon said, leaning closer, his gaze intent. "Tell me everything."
And under the soft glow of the moon, with the endless ocean stretching before them, Ayana began to speak of her people, her past, and the destiny that had led her to him. Leon listened, captivated, the darkness that had clung to him since Lena's demise beginning to recede in the light of this unexpected reunion and the intriguing woman beside him. The vast ocean that had separated them had now brought them back together, and a new chapter in their intertwined stories was just beginning.
Leon looked at Ayana, the joy of their reunion slowly being replaced by a familiar ache of worry. "You mentioned my mother Sasha. Do you do you know where she is?"
Ayana's smile softened. "I know of Queen Sasha. In the Darsh kingdom, everyone did. But her whereabouts, no, I don't know where she is now."
Leon's shoulders slumped slightly. "Then how will I find her?"
Ayana's brow furrowed in thought. "There was a name a dark whisper in the Mysterious Kingdom. They said Mistress Para might know."
Leon's head snapped up, his eyes wide with shock. "Mistress Para? You know that name?"
Ayana's gaze turned serious, the playful light from before gone. "Yes. We know of her… her darkness even reached the surface world in whispers and fear. You said she imprisoned your mother?"
Leon nodded, a knot of dread tightening in his stomach. "That's what the the Mystical Eagle said. But he didn't know where."
"Mistress Para" Ayana repeated, her voice low. "She wields powerful magic. Water shadows control. She is not someone to be taken lightly."
"You know her powers?" Leon asked, leaning forward, a flicker of hope mixed with apprehension in his eyes.
Ayana nodded slowly. "Tales are told. Of her influence, her cruelty even in the Darsh lands, we heard of the exiled siren queen who commanded the waters."
A silence fell between them, the gentle lapping of the waves a stark contrast to the heavy thoughts weighing them down.
Then, Ayana's eyes widened, as if a forgotten memory had suddenly surfaced. "Wait."
Leon looked at her expectantly. "What is it?"
Ayana's brow was furrowed in concentration. "When I was learning the old ways, the stories of King Eagle and our ancestors there was a place mentioned. A mountain. They called it the Climax of Unveiling."
"The Climax of Unveiling?" Leon repeated, the name sounding both mysterious and significant. "What is it?"
"It was said to be a place of great power," Ayana explained, her voice gaining a sense of certainty. "A place where truths are revealed, where hidden things come to light. Some believed it held connections to other realms… places beyond our own."
Leon's eyes lit up with a spark of hope. "Do you think do you think my mother could be there?"
Ayana hesitated. "I don't know for sure, Leon. The old texts were often cryptic. But if Mistress Para imprisoned her somewhere hidden, a place of power connected to other realms the Climax of Unveiling fits the description."
"Do you know where this mountain is?" Leon asked, his voice filled with urgency.
Ayana nodded. "Yes. It's far from here, towards the east. A solitary peak that pierces the sky. It's said to be unlike any other mountain."
Leon stood up, his earlier despair replaced by a renewed sense of purpose. "Then that's where we need to go. We need to find this Climax of Unveiling."
Ayana rose with him, her gaze determined. "It will be a dangerous journey, Leon. If Mistress Para is involved."
"I don't care," Leon interrupted, his voice firm. "She took my mother. I'm not going to just sit here. You know about this place, Ayana. Will you help me find it?"
Ayana looked at him, her eyes filled with a mixture of concern and resolve. "I will. Your mother and facing Mistress Para, it feels like a path we must walk. Together."
They stood side by side on the beach, the vast ocean before them now representing not a barrier, but a starting point for a new and perilous quest. The name "Climax of Unveiling" hung in the air, a beacon of hope in the encroaching darkness, a place where the secrets of the past, and perhaps the fate of Leon's mother, might finally be revealed.
