Chapter 4 - Rebellion

In a large building filled with blood and corpses, several men walked along a path armed with guns and weapons.

Each of them carefully checked their surroundings, ensuring everyone was dead. Their eyes were filled with anger and hatred.

One man noticed a corpse still breathing. He knelt, took a knife from his belt, and plunged it deep into the corpse's neck.

"Filthy loyalists…"

He stood, staring at the bodies of the loyalists.

After two years of war, it was finally over.

In that span of two years, the Revolutionary Army had defeated the Loyalist group led by the tyrant Edward, who had controlled all of the slums.

Of course, this didn't go unnoticed by the government. But Edward, loyal like a dog to the clans and major companies, was permitted to act as he pleased as long as he remained their obedient servant.

This arrangement had severely impacted the slums, especially over the last three years, when conditions had steadily worsened.

At first, men were forcibly taken to work for the companies. They received money and food, but over time, even that dwindled.

Then they took the women and children…

Criminals from the northern slums were appointed as guards and given other positions of power.

The people of the slums were enraged, but against the tyrant's forces, what could they do?

Then, seemingly from nowhere, a man emerged, bringing with him hope of freedom.

Under his leadership, an operation known to every resident of the slums was executed. He and a group of rebels attacked a shipment containing guns, ammunition, and even drones. The successful operation marked the true beginning of the rebellion.

The clans quickly attempted to crush the rebellion but were stopped.

No one truly knew what happened, but rumors spread that an Ascended warned the clans not to interfere, threatening government intervention if they did.

Naturally, the clans ignored this warning and began funding the loyalists. Seeing this, the government began funding the Revolutionary Army.

Thus, a war between mere slum rats escalated into a proxy war between the government and the clans.

Led by their strategic commander, the Revolutionary Army targeted every strategic location controlled by the loyalists, known or hidden.

Some members of the Revolutionary Army even theorized their leader was an Awakened with future sight abilities.

In the end, with the government's support and their leader's brilliant strategy, they finally reached the loyalists' headquarters.

The man looked away from the corpse and rejoined his group.

In a luxurious room furnished expensively, two men stared at each other.

The first, sitting behind his desk, glared at the other man with fury and hatred. His hair was half-gone, revealing part of his head, and he sported a black beard.

The other was a younger man, neatly dressed with long black hair reaching his neck and eyes darker than the night sky itself. He wore a black shirt beneath a long white coat, white trousers, and black shoes. On his white trousers was a black military belt, holding a gun and a knife.

Outside the window, the Revolutionary Army shouted their leader's name.

"Hahaha! Listen to them, calling your name—not realizing you're the very one who started their misery!"

The younger man remained silent, staring coldly at Edward.

"Look at you… When I found you as a child, you were nothing but an ant who caught my interest. And now you're the leader of the Revolutionary Army—the hero who freed them from the tyrant!"

Edward couldn't stop laughing bitterly.

"But the truth is, you were the right-hand man of that very tyrant! You're the one who devised the 'slave' plan, who took the women and children from their homes and sold them to the rich."

Finally, the younger man drew the gun from his belt and asked calmly, "Any last words?"

Edward rose from his seat, "They'll learn everything, C—"

Bang!

Smoke rose from the gun. A bullet pierced Edward's head, splattering blood across the wall behind him.

The man lowered his gun and sighed, looking upward.

"I feel sleepy…"

He was none other than Caelen—or at least, that's what he used to be called.

Now, they called him Ghost.

He sighed again, stepping away from Edward's corpse and leaving the room.

After walking for a minute, he saw another man waiting for him.

The man bowed and said respectfully, "Lord Ghost."

Ghost looked at the man and smiled slightly. "I'm leaving now. I've already explained everything to you."

The man bowed even deeper. "Yes, Lord Ghost! I'll ensure your name is remembered forever!"

Ghost waved his hand, leaving the man still bowing behind him.

"May you succeed in your Nightmare!" the man called after him.

That was the last thing Ghost heard before stepping out through the back door.

Outside, a car awaited him. He entered, pressed the start button, and the engine roared to life.

"The Nightmare Spell…" he muttered.

He was already eighteen, so he'd never expected to be infected by it. Yet, it seemed fate was always determined to kill him.

The car left the slums, entered the city streets, and, after an hour's drive, arrived at a police station.

Waiting there was a woman with short, raven-black hair and icy-blue eyes. Her flawless skin was smooth, supple, and white as snow.

Ghost exited the car, approached her, and bowed slightly. "Awakened Jet, it's an honor to meet you again."

Jet stared at him briefly before clicking her tongue impatiently. "Let's go, and don't waste my time."

He nodded and followed behind her.

Inside the police station, Awakened Jet began issuing orders to the officers.

Finally, she instructed him to follow her.

They entered an armored room with a steel bed fitted with restraints at the center.

Awakened Jet gestured toward the bed, instructing him to lie down.

He did as ordered. Two officers quickly secured his restraints.

"Since you already know about the Nightmare Spell, I won't bother explaining," she stated plainly.

He nodded.

"Now, good luck with your First Nightmare."

Finally, he closed his eyes, and in the darkness, he heard something…
