Chapter 16 - CHAPTER 16

* The Unexpected Demand*

The warehouse's creaky doors swung open, and a suited man walked in, his briefcase in hand. Avery recognized him as Mr. Thompson, the lawyer in charge of the Willowbrook Manor estate.

"Ah, perfect timing, Mr. Thompson," Victor said, a smile spreading across his face. "I have a little task for you."

Mr. Thompson's eyes narrowed slightly as he took in the scene before him – the brothers bound and helpless, Avery standing tall despite the circumstances.

"Victor, what's going on here?" Mr. Thompson asked, his voice firm.

Victor gestured to Avery. "Our dear Avery here has something I want. Something that will make me a lot of money."

Avery's eyes flashed with anger, but she remained silent, waiting to see where Victor was going with this.

"Mr. Thompson, I need you to take care of some...paperwork," Victor continued. "Avery, hand over the estate files to Mr. Thompson. All of them."

Avery's eyes widened in shock. "What? No way."

Victor's smile grew wider. "Oh, I think you will. You see, I've done my research. I know all about your mother's will and the conditions she set for inheriting the Willowbrook Manor estate."

Avery felt a chill run down her spine. How much did Victor know?

"You think that because I married my stepbrothers, I have control over the estate," Avery said, her voice steady.

Victor nodded. "Exactly. And I want a piece of that. Mr. Thompson, take the files and make sure everything is in order. Avery, you'll sign over the estate to me, and I'll make sure your...arrangements are safe."

Avery's anger boiled over. "You'll never get away with this, Victor."

Mr. Thompson cleared his throat, his eyes darting between Avery and Victor. "Victor, I think we need to discuss the legality of this. The estate's inheritance is tied to specific conditions—"

Victor waved his hand dismissively. "Don't bother me with the details, Mr. Thompson. Just get the files and make it happen."

Avery knew she had to think fast. She couldn't let Victor get his hands on the estate. She glanced at the brothers, still bound and helpless. She had to protect them, too.

"Fine," Avery said, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll give you the files. But you have to let the brothers go."

Victor's smile grew wider. "Ah, Avery. You're in no position to negotiate. But I'll make you a deal. You hand over the files, and I'll let one of them go. Your choice."

Avery's heart sank. What was she going to do?

Avery's mind racing, she stared at Victor, her eyes filled with defiance. "I won't let you have the estate, Victor. You'll have to kill me first."

Victor's smile never wavered. "Oh, Avery. You're so dramatic. I'm not going to kill you. At least, not yet. But I will hurt the people you care about. Starting with your stepbrothers."

Avery's heart sank as Victor's men tightened their grip on the brothers. Asher, Julian, and Caleb struggled against their restraints, their eyes locked on Avery with a mixture of anger and concern.

"Choose, Avery," Victor said, his voice cold. "Hand over the files, and I'll let one of them go. Refuse, and they'll all suffer."

Avery's eyes darted to the brothers, her mind racing with desperation. She knew she couldn't let Victor win, but she also couldn't bear the thought of losing any of them.

"Fine," she said finally, her voice barely above a whisper. "I'll give you the files. But you have to let Asher go."

Victor's smile grew wider. "Ah, good choice, Avery. Mr. Thompson, please take the files from Avery's bag."

Avery's heart sank as Mr. Thompson approached her, his eyes filled with a mixture of sympathy and professionalism. She knew she had to stall, to think of a way to escape, but Victor's men were watching her every move.

As Mr. Thompson took the files from her bag, Avery felt a sense of despair wash over her. She had to think of something, and fast, or she would lose everything.

As Mr. Thompson handed the files to Victor, Avery's mind racing, she pretended to struggle against her restraints. In reality, she was subtly working to loosen the ropes, hoping to create an opportunity for escape.

Victor's eyes gleamed with triumph as he reviewed the files. "Excellent. With this, I'll be able to take control of the Willowbrook Manor estate."

Avery's anger simmered, but she kept her focus on her plan. She needed to get the brothers out of there, and then she could figure out how to stop Victor.

As Victor finished reviewing the files, he nodded to his men. "Let Asher go, as promised."

Asher was untied and pushed forward, his eyes locked on Avery with a mixture of concern and determination. "I'll get help," he whispered to her as he passed.

Avery nodded slightly, her eyes conveying her trust in him. As Asher was escorted out, Avery's plan began to take shape.

She waited until Victor was distracted by his men, then made her move. With a swift jerk, she freed herself from the ropes and launched herself at Victor.

But Victor's men were too quick, and they caught her, holding her in a tight grip. Victor's smile returned, his eyes glinting with amusement.

"You should have stayed still, Avery," he said, his voice dripping with malice.

Avery's heart sank, but she refused to give up. She knew she had to keep fighting, for herself and for the brothers.

Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the warehouse, followed by the sound of scuffling. Avery's heart leapt with hope – could it be Asher, come to rescue them?

The scuffling grew louder, and Victor's men turned to face the new threat. Avery took advantage of the distraction to struggle against her captors.

Suddenly, Asher burst into the warehouse, followed by a group of heavily armed men. They were dressed in black tactical gear, and their faces were obscured by masks.

"Let her go!" Asher shouted, his gun trained on Victor's men.

The warehouse erupted into chaos as the two groups clashed. Avery's captors loosened their grip, and she took advantage of the momentary distraction to break free.

She sprinted toward Asher, who grabbed her hand and pulled her toward the exit. "We have to get out of here, now!" he yelled.

But Victor's men were relentless, and they pursued them with ferocity. Avery and Asher fought their way through the warehouse, dodging bullets and fending off attackers.

Finally, they reached the safety of their vehicle, a sleek black SUV. Asher pushed Avery inside and leapt in after her, shouting to the driver, "Go, go, go!"

The SUV sped away from the warehouse, leaving the chaos behind. Avery collapsed against Asher, her heart still racing from the adrenaline.

"We have to get the brothers," she said, her voice shaking.

Asher nodded. "Don't worry, we've got a plan. We'll get them out, and then we'll take down Victor once and for all."

Avery's determination hardened. She would not let Victor win. She would fight for her family, for the estate, and for her future.

But as they sped through the night, Avery couldn't shake the feeling that Victor was far from defeated. In fact, he might just be getting started.

The SUV sped through the night, the city lights blurring together as Avery's mind reeled with the events that had just transpired. Asher held her close, his eyes scanning the road behind them for any signs of pursuit.

When they finally reached a safe location, Asher's phone buzzed with an update from the team that had been sent to rescue the other brothers. Avery's heart leapt with hope as Asher listened intently, his expression grim.

"What is it?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Asher's eyes met hers, and he smiled slightly. "They've got Julian and Caleb. They're safe."

Avery's relief was palpable, and she let out a shaky breath. "Thank God," she whispered, her eyes welling up with tears.

Asher pulled her into a tight hug. "We're going to get through this, Avery. We'll take down Victor, and we'll make sure he's brought to justice."

Avery nodded, her determination renewed. She knew that she and the brothers had to stand together if they were going to take down Victor and reclaim their lives.

As they made their way to join the others, Avery's thoughts turned to the estate and the battle that lay ahead. She knew that Victor would stop at nothing to claim the Willowbrook Manor estate, but she was determined to fight for it, for herself and for the brothers she loved.

When they finally reunited with Julian and Caleb, Avery felt a sense of peace wash over her. They were together again, and they would face whatever came next as a team.

But as they planned their next move, Avery couldn't shake the feeling that Victor was still one step ahead of them. She knew that they had to be careful, that one misstep could mean disaster.

The group huddled together, their faces illuminated by the dim light of a single laptop screen. Asher, Julian, and Caleb were already deep in discussion, strategizing their next move.

"We need to get to Victor's financial backers," Julian said, his eyes scanning the documents on the screen. "If we can cut off his funding, he'll be weakened."

"But who are they?" Avery asked, her brow furrowed in concern.

Caleb nodded. "I've been digging into his connections. I think I've found a lead on one of his major investors."

Asher's eyes narrowed. "Let's get to work. We need to gather evidence, build a case against Victor, and take him down for good."

Avery's determination hardened. "We'll do whatever it takes. We won't let him win."

The group fell into a focused silence, each member working tirelessly to gather information and build their case against Victor.

As the night wore on, their plan began to take shape. They would gather evidence, expose Victor's corruption, and bring him to justice.

But Avery knew that Victor wouldn't go down without a fight. She steeled herself for the battle ahead, knowing that their lives would never be the same again.

The question was, what would Victor do next?
