Chapter 18 - Min-ho's Affinity

"What do you think we should do?" Savior asked, turning her gaze in every direction, trying to look for the answer to her own question.

Min-ho thought, wondering if going for that Event was the right option.

"I don't know, it's really far. There's a chance that the Event will be filled up before we get there."

He turned around, rubbing his hands together. He pointed his gaze to the city, squinting hard.

When his eyelids were close enough, he could see a faint glowing line streaking through the streets of the city. A line that would lead them to the center of the city, a place they had to be at all cost.

"Maybe we should leave it and opt for the heart of the city," Savior said, looking in the same direction Min-ho was looking at.

"We could make up for the losses in combat," she added.

Min-ho remained silent, thinking still.

'Was it worth the risk?' he wondered.

Getting to the Event would require they brave through Spectors and head further away from the heart of the city for a small chance of finding a spot in the Event.

Though the risks were great, the rewards were equally as great and Min-ho did not know if he was willing to pass them up.

With a bit of contemplation, he made up his mind.

"If it were up to me, then I'd say we should go for the Event," he said, rubbing his hands from the cold.

"But it isn't," he said, causing Savior to look up at him. "The decision has to rest in the hands of our team."

He turned his sights to Savior, locking his gaze with hers.

"We'll take a vote."

After returning from the top of the temple, Savior had taken a detour to use the latrines like she had said. Which Min-ho found himself grimacing at.

Once done, they returned to their room where Savior turned in for the night. Min-ho on the other hand, couldn't sleep a wink no matter how hard he tried.

A million different thoughts kept him awake.

He wondered what was the right decision to make. He thought that maybe leaving the Event was the right thing to do, or maybe doing so would be a big mistake. Perhaps taking the risk for the Event was a good thing, there was a chance the losses from that Event could cripple them down the line, or maybe…

"Ugh." He groaned, anger becoming him as his thoughts ravaged his mind.

In an attempt to distract himself, Min-ho decided to do the one thing he had been avoiding this whole time.

'My Affinity,' he thought, and his heart thudded.

Taking in a deep breath, Min-ho finally decided to stop stalling, then he called forth his System.

[Name: Mee Min-ho, Rank: E]

[Affinities, Equipment]

[Inventory, Shop]

[Coins: 35,350]

He hesitated, stared at the Affinities option for far longer than he would have liked, then he forced his will to expand the menu.

[Affinities: Monarch's Will]

Looking at his Affinity, he took in another deep breath before expanding it.

[[Monarch's Will]]

[ Affinity Type: Passive, Affinity Rank: E]

[Monarch's Will: If a subject is made through the kissing of a hand, the Monarch will gain a percentage of their collected Coins along with being able to control the subjects to a certain degree. Percentage increases by increments of 10% for every two subject gotten. Increments will cease to continue once the limit of 20 subjects has been reached]

[Uses Available: unlimited, Whiplash: Death's Revenge]

Seeing the Affinity and reading it through, Min-ho jumped up.

Thud.

"Ouch." He groaned as his head slammed into the roof of his makeshift tent.

Rubbing on his head and trying to swallow the pain, Min-ho cleaned out his eyes with his free hand and read the description again.

When he finished reading through it, his eyes widened.

'I got such an Affinity?' Min-ho questioned, finding it hard to believe what he was seeing.

Trying to tamper his growing excitement, he turned his gaze to the Whiplash, then expanded it.

[Death's Revenge: If a subject under the Monarchs rule dies, the death of the subject will be shared with the Monarch depending on his taxing percentage]

He read through the description of his Whiplash, then froze.

'Death?' he pondered, a sudden fear crawling up his spine.

His gaze shifted between the Description of his Affinity, and the description of its Whiplash.

A double edged sword.

He had gotten an incredible Affinity, only for it to deal him such a dangerous hand in return.

'Not like I was expecting anything less.'

He felt disappointment washing over him. Yet he couldn't dismiss the potential.

'If only I could negate its effects somehow.'

He laid back on the floor, still staring at his Affinity.

Fear had gripped him ever since he came into the Z-Tower regarding his Affinity. And now he had finally seen what he was given. Yet he didn't know how to feel.

He couldn't deny it was a tempting offer, but was it one he was willing to take?

After all, the glitch in his System granted him access to a well of Coins, was it really worth the risk?

'So many choices.'

Min-ho rubbed his head as he continued to think. He had thought that checking his Affinity would be a good distraction to get away from his thoughts, but he only ended up adding fuel to the fire.

With a sigh, he got up and made his way out the room. Opening the door exactly as Savior did.

Once again, the glowing letters appeared for a brief moment. When they vanished, the door opened.

Making his way out, Min-ho walked through the massive temple till he reached the platform that led to the roof.

He didn't activate it—not that he knew how anyway. Instead, he laid on the floor, watching the night's sky as he waited for the sun to tint the dark.

He just needed that color to wake the group up, so they would make the decision.
