Chapter 62 - The Final Stand

The air was thick with the scent of burning earth and the faint, acrid tang of magic. Amina's heart pounded in her chest as she tightened her grip on the sword. The blade pulsed in her hand, the hum of its power vibrating up her arm, but she could feel it faltering under the weight of the darkness that loomed before her.

Valec stood in the center of the swirling chaos, a towering figure of shadow and fire. His once-immaculate appearance was now marred by the unnatural forces that surrounded him, his eyes glowing with an eerie intensity that sent a chill down Amina's spine.

"You think you can stop this, little girl?" Valec's voice boomed, resonating in the very marrow of her bones. "You cannot stop what is already in motion. The world is already burning, and there's nothing you can do to put out the flames."

Amina's grip on the sword tightened, her knuckles white. She could feel the heat from the flames licking at her skin, the pull of the darkness tempting her to surrender. But she wouldn't. She couldn't. Not after everything they had fought for.

"I'm not here to stop it," Amina said through gritted teeth. "I'm here to end it. You won't get away with this, Valec."

His laugh was chilling, devoid of any warmth or humor. "End it? How amusing. You are nothing but a fragment of the past, a relic. You have no power to stop what I've become. You're too weak. All of you are."

The ground beneath their feet shook once more, the tomb groaning as if it, too, were afraid of what was about to happen. Amina's eyes darted to her companions, who stood in tense silence, watching her every move. The boy, who had once been so cryptic and unreadable, now looked at her with an odd mixture of fear and hope.

"Amina," Lumeah called out softly, her voice strained. "You don't have to do this alone."

Amina didn't respond, her gaze locked with Valec's. The fire in her eyes burned brighter, the flames within her growing stronger, fueled by determination and the knowledge that there was no turning back.

"Don't you dare try to make me feel sorry for you," Amina spat, her voice steady but filled with fury. "You've had your chance. You chose your path. And now, I'll choose mine."

With a single, fluid motion, Amina lunged forward, the sword flashing in the dim light. The flames seemed to part before her, as if acknowledging the threat she posed. Her strike was swift, aimed directly at Valec's heart, but he was faster.

With a blur of movement, Valec twisted, his hand coming up to catch the blade mid-air. A surge of dark energy rippled from his fingertips, sending a shockwave through the tomb that sent Amina stumbling backward.

"You think you can defeat me with that?" Valec sneered, his grip tightening around the sword. The weapon flickered, its glow dimming under the weight of his power. "This is just a toy to me. You're a fool."

But Amina didn't relent. She rolled to the side, pulling herself to her feet in a fluid motion. Her eyes never left him as she calculated her next move.

"This isn't over, Valec," she said through gritted teeth. "Not by a long shot."

Valec's eyes narrowed, and for a moment, it seemed as though he was about to strike. But before he could move, a deep rumbling shook the very foundation of the tomb. The air shifted again, growing colder, and for the first time, Valec's expression faltered.

"What's happening?" he muttered under his breath, his gaze darting around as if searching for something.

Amina felt it, too—the pull of something ancient and powerful, far beyond the reach of the battle they were engaged in. It was a force that had been buried for eons, and it was awakening now, responding to the call of the broken seals.

"I didn't think it would come to this," the boy murmured, his eyes wide with realization. "The path you've chosen… it's brought them here."

The ground trembled beneath their feet once more, but this time it wasn't the destruction of the tomb—it was the arrival of something else. Something older. Something far more dangerous.

From the cracks in the earth, a shadow began to rise—a massive, hulking figure, its form obscured by swirling darkness. The tomb itself seemed to recoil in terror as the figure loomed larger, its power immense and unyielding.

Amina's blood ran cold as she realized what was emerging.

"Valec… what have you done?" she whispered, her voice barely audible.

The towering figure stepped into the light, revealing itself to be a creature of nightmare. Its eyes glowed with a sinister, blood-red hue, and its body was covered in jagged armor forged from the very rock of the tomb. It was a being of pure destruction, a manifestation of the chaos that Valec had unleashed upon the world.

Valec stood frozen, a mixture of awe and fear creeping into his expression. "No… this wasn't supposed to happen."

Amina gritted her teeth and raised her sword once more. She wasn't backing down. Not now. Not with the world on the brink of total collapse.

But as the creature moved toward them, her heart raced. She had no idea how they could survive this. They were facing a being older than time itself—a force beyond Valec's control.

And yet, they had to fight.

They had no choice.
