Chapter 7 - Fortifications of Patagonia

The plan was in place , all that remained was the implementation.

At this moment Ceaser wanted to use the opportunity to organize and create structure within the rebellion because a group without structure was always bound for failure.

First course of action was a professional defense force able to be easily trained and deployed for immediate action.

It didn't make sense for a set of volatile individuals to be all handed weapons when they could be put to great use in making the area much more secure.

Ceaser met with Zack as he asked for six hundred men as volunteers for the defense force.

" Six hundred men?" Zack asked," of the three thousand men on site , two hundred of them are hot blooded and ready for battle. Why choose six hundred men?"

" Six hundred men would be the most optimal force for defense, easy to train and it would be more mobile ." Ceaser replied.

Zack heard some stories about Ceaser from his men, some of them were exaggerated but the core information he got from them was that survival was synonymous with the name Ceaser as so far none of his ideas has resulted in failure.

By evening, after so many contemplations and even brawls, six hundred men were chosen to serve in the defense force. But they were not all that thrilled to see that Ceaser was the person who was going to lead them.

Seeing that the situation had turned volatile Ceaser needed to calm the situation while asserting dominance.

" While you all were wallowing in slavery, mindlessly digging away in the mines , I.... This child whom you all look down upon ensured the survival of one hundred men women and children." Ceaser spoke in a calm voice to the rowdy crowd. " With forty men , I defeated the bulk of Incas men which enabled you to take out the rest of his men in your rebellion.

If I were you , I would be on my hands and knees begging me to lead you. And weather or not you decide to follow me , I would still defeat the Blackthorns albeit at a slower rate.

You have a choice, follow my orders and live , if you don't, maybe you survive ir maybe the Blackthorns decide to make an example our of you. So what do you decide?"

The men fell silent, they were afraid of Ceaser at the moment. The message they got was that Ceaser didn't need them to survive but they needed him to survive.....long term.

As the silence continued Ceaser proceeded to give instructions, they were to undergo specialized training while he made plans for the new weapons. But first he needed to secure their location .

Construction was much more easier because of the large population, work was done in five hour shifts and they were divided into groups to be delegated specific tasks.

Trunches were dug , trees were cut down processed and transported to the building sites where they were placed and fashioned into walls that greatly resembled first century A.D European fortifications .

As the wall was being built, the cassava plantation was being harvested and propergated . Some of the harvested cassava were turned into flour which was used in baking bread which was a staple at that time but this time not the coarse black bread but softer bread . Other parts of the cassava were fermented into alcohol, some of which were distributed in rations to the population but most of it was distilled into flamable high percentage alcohol.

In terms of meat , added to the boars and deer that were caught and distributed, Ceaser emphasized that animals like rabbits and squirrels should be caught alive and breeder because of their high reproductive value. If done well they could have a sustainable meat farm to last ages.

The wall was being built, food and water had been secured , all that remained was buildings that provided protection from the winter.

The style of housing that Ceaser chose was the log cabin. It was cheap, efficient and provided insulation.

The house that broke construction was Ceasers own personal house , it was to contain an office space or a living area, a kitchen ,a bedroom and an outhouse and bathroom. He decided to use the prisoners for this project, all sixty of them. He needed a working model to show the town what they were to expect in housing.

Some of the processed logs were diverted to the cleared area where Ceaser had decided to build. The hardest part was getting them to dig the foundations correctly but after the hurdle was passed the construction speed blasted off and within five days a magnificent log cabin has been built, much more better than what Ceaser had in mind.

The cabin was built all with wood and the gaps were filled with mud . As expected of an ex CIA operative , an underground room was built without the members of the public knowing. This was done mostly at night , if not the construction could have been finished within a day. The cabin was also surrounded by short wooden fences that was put to demacate the priorities.

Soon after building the the cabin, Ceaser started receiving requests for their own buildings. This provided him with an opportunity .

The requirements for housing was for a person or family to register their names and skills. They were then assigned a house number, this minimized the threat of enemy infiltrating the area.

The prisoners who were under Ceasers command at the moment feared torture and humiliation but they provided with safe work environments, rest breaks and were treated like regular human beings at least by Ceaser who held no grudge against them. Even Lord Mel who was Incas advisor had unwittingly turned into Ceasers secretary, documenting and filing away all information which Ceaser was gathering.

The former soldiers who now acted as the lead construction crew now held Ceaser in great regard that they were already subconsciously viewing him as a leader, the leader . All this while pumping out about three cabins every two days as their specialization was increased.
