Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The Weight of Destiny

"When the winds of fate change, even the strongest of hearts can be shattered."

---

The air was thick with tension as Moria and her companions ventured deeper into the wilderness. The presence of the mysterious figure had left a lingering unease, like a shadow that followed them no matter how far they walked. Though the figure had vanished, its words echoed in Moria's mind, growing louder with each step.

"There are forces older than even the Heart itself."

The words felt like a warning, but of what? Moria couldn't shake the feeling that something was coming, something far more dangerous than she had ever anticipated.

Li Yuan, always perceptive, had been unusually quiet since their encounter. His usual calm demeanor was replaced by an intense focus, his sharp eyes scanning their surroundings with heightened vigilance. Even Jiang, the ever-optimistic one, was more subdued than usual.

"We need to find shelter," Li Yuan said suddenly, his voice cutting through the silence.

Moria nodded, her eyes narrowing as she glanced around. The forest was dense, the trees twisted in unnatural shapes as if the land itself was corrupted by something dark. It didn't take long before they found an abandoned structure, a crumbling temple nestled between two ancient oak trees. The structure was overgrown with vines, the stone walls weathered and eroded by centuries of neglect.

"Looks like we have no choice," Jiang muttered, wiping the sweat from his brow. "This place feels… off."

Moria didn't respond. Her mind was elsewhere, her thoughts consumed by the encounter with the mysterious figure. She couldn't afford distractions—not now. Not when she was so close to unlocking the full potential of the Heart.

As they entered the temple, the atmosphere grew heavier. The air smelled of damp earth and decayed wood, and the dim light that filtered through the cracks in the stone walls cast eerie shadows across the floor. The place felt ancient, as though it had witnessed countless secrets buried beneath its stone foundations.

"This place is cursed," Jiang whispered, his voice barely audible as they moved deeper into the temple. "I can feel it."

Moria remained silent, her gaze drifting to the dark corners of the room. She had no time for fears or superstitions. She had a mission, a goal, and she wouldn't let anything distract her from it.

But then, as if to challenge her resolve, a chilling sound filled the air. It was soft at first, like the whisper of wind through the cracks in the stone, but soon it grew louder, more distinct. A low, guttural growl echoed through the temple, sending a shiver down Moria's spine.

"Did you hear that?" Jiang asked, his voice barely more than a whisper.

Moria's eyes narrowed. She had heard it too. The growl was followed by the sound of something heavy moving through the temple. It was getting closer.

Before anyone could react, a figure stepped into the dim light—a towering creature, its features twisted and grotesque. It was humanoid but distorted, its eyes glowing with a sinister, unnatural light. The creature's mouth was lined with sharp teeth, and its skin was a sickly gray, mottled with patches of dark, decaying flesh.

Moria's hand instinctively went to the sword at her side, her grip tightening around the hilt. The creature snarled, its breath ragged and foul, as it advanced toward them.

"Stay back," Moria commanded, her voice cold and unwavering.

Li Yuan stepped forward, his hand resting on the hilt of his own weapon, his eyes locked on the creature. "We can't let it get any closer."

Jiang, meanwhile, was already preparing to strike, his movements swift and precise. He was more than ready for a fight.

But Moria was different. She wasn't afraid of this creature. In fact, she felt the pulse of the Heart within her, its power ready to be unleashed. The Heart had already granted her immense strength, but she had yet to fully tap into its potential. Now, it seemed, was as good a time as any.

She raised her hand, feeling the heat within her body surge. The air around them grew warmer, the temperature rising rapidly as Moria called upon the power of the Heart. A wave of energy erupted from her, a torrent of fiery force that crashed into the creature, sending it stumbling backward.

The creature let out a deafening roar, its eyes flashing with fury. But Moria wasn't finished yet. She pushed forward, the power of the Heart filling her with a burning desire to destroy. She summoned more of the fire, shaping it into a ball of pure energy, and hurled it toward the creature.

The explosion was deafening, and the creature was thrown against the stone wall with a sickening thud. For a moment, everything was silent. The creature lay still, its body crumpled and broken.

Moria stood, her chest heaving as she regained her breath. The power of the Heart was intoxicating, but she knew better than to let it consume her completely. She had to stay in control.

Li Yuan and Jiang exchanged glances, both of them visibly impressed by the display of power. "That was… impressive," Li Yuan said quietly.

Moria didn't respond. She was already moving, her eyes scanning the room for any more threats. The creature was gone, but something still felt off. She could sense that there were more dangers lurking in the shadows, waiting for the right moment to strike.

"We can't stay here long," Moria said, her voice firm. "We need to keep moving."

Jiang nodded, his expression serious. "I agree. But where do we go from here?"

Moria's gaze hardened. "We head to the ancient ruins to the north. The next piece of the puzzle lies there. And I intend to find it."

Li Yuan's eyes narrowed, and he stepped closer to Moria. "And what if we run into more creatures like that one?"

"Then we fight," Moria replied, her voice cold. "We fight until we can't fight anymore. But we don't stop. Not now."

With that, the group moved out of the temple, leaving the dark, foreboding space behind them. But as they ventured further into the unknown, Moria couldn't shake the feeling that their journey was only just beginning. And with every step, the weight of her destiny grew heavier.
