Chapter 17 - Earth Devil Whisk

The boy was stunned and stammered for a second before saying "Ah, yes. The rewards for this mission are a minimum of 1.000 to a maximum of 10.000 contribution points, the instant upgrade to the Rank Three Earth Disciple. Currently your rank is that of a New Member, once you finish your first mission you would usually become an Earth Servant.

Every time one ranks up a greater rank, you will gain the qualification to obtain an advancement item of that stage. In rare cases this reward can be upgraded to the qualification of obtaining the advancement item of the next stage.

Contribution points are also easy to understand. All items of the fourth stage are from 1-1.000 points, the third stage are 1.000-10.00, second stage 10.000-100.000 and first stage 100.000-1.000.000. Advancement items are of that stage and usually at the top, for third rank advancement items, one usually pays 9.000 contribution points, depending on the rarity of the item."

Lingxu understood that these advancement treasures would help one either enter that respective phase, meaning from the foundation building stage to the origin light stage, or advance in that phase, meaning from the origin light stage to the core formation stage. The value of entering the stage is usually higher.

After being reminded by the boy, he also took a short moment to read the different phases and their relation to the stages and understood that in the immortal realm, they truly just call these phases the mortal cultivation stages, without being split.

This isn't the immortal realm, neither the spiritual power nor the law of the world are enough to advance so fast. Nonetheless, by splitting the phases into stages, it creates a deeper foundation, which is why ascended monks are generally stronger than the common immortal world cultivator.

Lingxu considered the reward, it seemed pretty high, especially the promise he could exchange an advancement treasure. These things can't be bought just because one wants them, especially not for such cheap costs.

Contribution points might seem like a lot, but in the first place, one would have triple the number of points when converting them into spirit stones, the currency of cultivators across stages. After all, the prices of the palace are very favourable. The conversion of one point is to one spirit stones, meaning if one compared the two prices, one would have to work thrice as hard.

Of course this is a bit of an exaggeration, since spirit stones are generally easier to gain than contribution points. Regardless, the prices are very kind. Not to mention anything else, just from the fact that there is a price limit. Some lower ranked items may cost a lot more than higher ranked items, but in this system, that can never happen.

'The Earth Devil Palace must be truly wealthy… well, the contribution points are basically the good fortune they gained by following the wish of earth and eliminating those with heavy karma. It's no wonder the palace is able to stand for so long. There were several times where super sects were destroyed, but the palace always remained at a high.'

After thinking of that, he stopped hesitating and nodded "I can accept the mission."

The boy was elated but then remembered something and looked Lingxu up and down "Can you transform into a human form?"

Lingxu remembered at this moment that he was still in spectral form. 'Wow, they really don't care at all about this, even I forgot about it.'

Then he simply switched back to a human form with one thought.

Seeing this happen, the boy was extremely surprised and he jumped out from behind the desk, inspecting him "What is this technique?" he looked around "You can transform so fast and so cleanly, even your nether element is fully concealed!"

He stopped himself from asking further and said "If you are willing to exchange this technique to our palace, you will definitely be rewarded!"

Lingxu shook his head. He didn't mind the spirit knowing his details, after all, all spirits were connected to the main weapon, they were sub-spirits with extremely high security measures. Ignoring the naïve look, if he wasn't alone in this branch, he would probably go into a secret room for such a high-ranking task.

This was one of the reasons he chose this organisation – secrecy and anonymity was another one of their key rules. After all, as a secret organisation hated by all, if they don't even have this, then their destruction must be near.

He answered calmly "Maybe when I'm stronger, I will leave behind this technique. Anyways, although it's truly strong, it has high requirements. Members won't have what it takes to use it directly, in the end, it can only be given to new members like me who have just joined without any cultivation arts. How rare is this? Just looking at the Nether Fog Art, it's obvious that such things aren't worth it."

The boy looked at Lingxu and said calmly "but today it was you who exchanged this technique. Although the nether fog art failed to play a key role in other peoples' hands, I am sure it will be fitting for you… don't you think there are others who are also in your situation?"

That gave Lingxu a reason to think 'True, even if I didn't transmigrate, the body would still have this inheritance, and they might choose similarly… alas, other transmigrators have cheats and such, I can only use my mature mind and experience to face the difficulties of this world.'

Although he said this, he wasn't one bit sad. Just the fact that he had a lot of mortal experience is many steps ahead of other cultivators – inner demons are something that are truly a thing in this world. In the past world, you might have many issues, but as long as you keep on, you can overcome them. Here, having these issues is often a death warrant.

Now he overcame the majority of his past issues, if there is one person in this world who has a complicated mind yet is still extremely resistant to inner demons, then it must be him.

He still shook his head "I will consider it later on. Just like you said, that senior gave this art at a later stage for more contribution points, most likely because he wanted something. For me, there is nothing that can help me truly, since this mission is what will help me a lot in the future."

The boy nodded finally and took a jade slip, then he gestures Lingxu to take out the taoist whisk. Lingxu did so and under the gestures of the boy, he touched the jade slip with the whisk.

Following that, the whisk instantly started to shine, and the samsara wheel seemed to gain colour.

"The samsara wheel is the tool to detect karma. As long as one line is full, you can kill them. Any more lines and you gain good fortune by killing them. Two lines is small fortune, four is large fortune, six is great fortune and eight is earthly opportunity. Generally, this rough measurement is enough for most. When you get more authority, your whisk will gradually he able to detect at a wider range and look into the secrets of karma."
