Chapter 15 - Battle Techniques

"Good," she continued, "and now this pushes us to our next topic—selection of suitable battle techniques."

"What kind of battle techniques we choose matters a lot, and trust me, it has a massive effect on your growth. You may think it is not really important but it is important."

"There are reasons for it," she continued. "Undoubtedly, there are an enormous number of battle techniques available in our entire world. But even if I place you in a room which has all the battle techniques of the world, how many can you learn?"

"Five… ten… twenty… this is the limit of any human," she said. "Even if you are some top-tier genius, you will need weeks to comprehend the basics of even a Yellow Grade technique."

"And to fully master it, months… years. As the grade of the technique you are practicing increases, the time required to learn them increases."

"Thus, you cannot afford to do trial and error in choosing techniques. It is going to ruin your growth."

"Then what are the points that we need to be careful of while selecting battle techniques?"

"You can guess by contemplating why me, the Human-Beast synergy teacher, is covering this topic."

A few of the students started to guess as she continued, "We need to choose the battle techniques that are in alignment with the natural attribute we gain from our beasts. In alignment with the skills we receive from our beasts."

"It is very natural that you cannot choose a battle technique that requires fire elemental mana if you do not have fire attributed mana. Similarly, it is very natural to choose battle techniques that align with you and your abilities."

"I will give you an example," she continued with a chuckle, "and Teacher Sankul will do the job, as I believe he does not mind being an example."

"I assume that you must have witnessed his first skill he received from his ape?" she asked, and the students nodded.

"Good," she continued. "His first skill basically covers his fist in a shell and gives his punch extra power."

"But suppose that he then would have decided that he would not focus on learning fist techniques, but he would instead learn sword techniques."

"He might have mastered the sword technique," she said. "But would it have the same impact as he has now? No."

"Why? Because right now, when he uses his fist techniques, he has his skill that he received from his beast further buffing him up. The power that he could unleash via his fist technique is a hell lot higher than he would ever achieve with a sword technique."

"So," she said. "My suggestion is that always choose a skill that is suited for the natural attributes you received from your beast. It must complement the skills you receive from your beast."

"Whatever technique you choose, you must do thorough research on it. Detailed information about what kind of cultivator any specific technique is best suited for is available in the library. Use that information wisely."

"And do not hope that if you go wrong, we will correct you," she said. "Because there is no such thing as wrong or right in cultivation. There is the path which you choose for yourself and whether you achieve your full potential in it or not."

"Am I clear?" she asked.

The students nodded as Angelica further continued to delve into the two topics she had touched on today. She gave quite a few examples and a lot of references about the synergy and how it affects the development of a cultivator.

"From the next class onwards," she said. "We will begin what our class is for—practical work."

"I will randomly choose a few students, and then we will talk about the synergy between them and the skills of their beast. Be prepared."

"Any questions?" she asked. Generally, no doubts were raised in the first few classes, but one hand went up in the air, catching her eye. It was a boy standing at the edge of one side of the semicircle. It was none other than Athar.

"Yes?" she questioned.

"Madam," Athar asked. "The entire point of our today's discussion was how the attributes of a beast affect humans and how our body gets naturally tuned depending on their attributes."

"But is it possible that the attributes of a human also affect the beast?" he asked.

"What is your name, boy?" Angelica asked with narrowed eyes.

"Athar Voncruz," he replied, wondering if he had somehow offended her.

"A fine question you asked," she replied, much to Athar's relief. "The answer is yes and no."

The entire class became confused hearing the reply.

"The attributes of the beast definitely affect the beast, but it is not felt in them. Why, you may ask."

She continued, "Because none of us have a single attribute that overwhelms all our other attributes. Our agility, strength, endurance, or stamina are almost evenly balanced, so even if it affects the beast, we would not visibly know about it."

"But beasts generally have one of their attributes overwhelming the others. The ape has overwhelming strength, and thus Teacher Sankul, when affected by it, developed an attribute of overwhelming strength."

"Similarly, a few beasts have agility as an attribute or an elemental power. And we humans are affected by it," she said.

"But there is one thing in humans whose effect could be felt on their beast," she continued.

"Any guesses for what that could be? Something that provides a human with a unique power… a power which can be seen or felt."

"Spiritual veins," Athar muttered, and Angelica's eyes lit up.

"Correct," she said. "Spiritual veins give humans unique powers. They can give elemental powers to a human."

"Suppose a human with fire-attributed spiritual veins is bonded with a non-elemental beast, then that non-elemental beast would get that fire-attributed power."

"But unique spiritual veins are a rare phenomenon, and thus, what I am talking about rarely happens," she finished.

"Thank you, madam," Athar responded.

Angelica gave a nod, and the class was dismissed.
